The GOP tries on new gay-baiting hat: ‘fancy lad’ Obama

Fancy Lad

1. Guy who is very “girly”. Has rosie cheeks and prances around like a nancy boy. Dresses with flare.
2. Someone who says he isn’t gay but acts like a fag all the time.

What is it with the GOP and the insistence on gay-baiting? This is the party of closeted, tortured men trolling for sex in airport bathrooms, park restrooms and assaulting fellow Republicans in their sleep with oral sex attacks, yet they persist in trying to tar Dems with the gay label. The taunts are so high school at this point.

One week after she appeared on the July 7 edition of MSNBC Live and referred to Sens. Barack Obama and John Kerry (D-MA) as “two Ivy League fancy lads,” Fox News hosted Republican strategist Andrea Tantaros on the July 14 edition of America’s Newsroom, during which she called Obama “a fancy lad.” Tantaros was discussing the possibility of Obama’s speaking in front of Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate and called the proposition “risky,” adding that “Obama needs some gravitas, and so that’s why they’re sending him there. He’s a fancy lad. He likes fancy language with fancy backdrops. And that’s exactly why they’re putting him there.” On neither MSNBC nor Fox News was her remark challenged by the anchors of the shows. On MSNBC, Democratic strategist David Goodfriend responded to Tantaros by saying: “Well, first of all, just in response to what Andrea said, there isn’t a single Ivy League fancy guy on that ticket.”

This is so weak—and yes, to my Log Cabin peeps out there, is this the kind of GOP we’re supposed to be educating ourselves about? Will McCain call them on this, or let it slide?

It reminds me of this Ripley’s Believe It Or Not moment from, of all people, Tucker Carlson:

Well, everybody knows that a book club is no place for a man. So why has Barack Obama suddenly turned into Oprah? [Producer] Willie Geist rounds up the girls, brings the chardonnay, and heads to the Oprah book club—or the Obama book club—when we come back.”

...Carlson recently referred to Obama’s “rhetoric” as “kind of wimpy” and said that Obama “seems like kind of a wuss.” Carlson also said that Obama “sounds like a pothead.”

During the segment, Carlson discussed the book clubs with Geist, who claimed that “Obama has violated the trust of men everywhere,” and said: “It makes you wonder what he won’t compromise of himself. Are we going to have mani/pedi parties next? You know what I mean?”

Just the kind of coverage the GOP doesn’t want for its convention

Can you get it any better than this? The headline in the Chicago Sun-Times—

Airport stall may return to spotlight: Sen. Craig’s hook-up site on view for GOP convention-goers.

Thousands of members of the international media will have to walk past it when they land at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport for the Republican National Convention in St. Paul at the end of the summer.

Many will feel obligated to stop and file a story. For the party that bills itself as stronger on family values than the Democrats, it likely will prove an unwelcome distraction.

Craig responded that he just had a “wide stance,” was “not gay” and only pleaded guilty to avoid a spectacle that would spread from Minneapolis to Idaho. Craig tried to withdraw his guilty plea, but an appeals court turned him down. The Senate’s ethics panel reprimanded Craig for his conduct and said it did not believe his denials.

It will be great to see a nice MSM roundup of the tinderbox of GOP sexual hypocrite scandals that blew up in the party’s face, particularly since Mr. Toe-Tapper and Mr. Pampers are co-sponsors of Craig/Vitter Marriage Protection Amendment.

Ken Hutcherson: Seattle government official is racist

Batsh*t CrazyFundiesHumorHypocritesLGBTRaceReligion

Oh please. From the “news” organ of Don Wildmon’s American Family Association, a propaganda piece to shore up the tattered rep of Seattle-area homobigot Ken Hutcherson, who is a card-carrying member of the professional “Christian victim” set. You’ll recall that Hutcherson spoke at Mount Si High School’s MLK, Jr. Day assembly in January. He was booed by one teacher and asked about his anti-gay views by another teacher.

Pastor Ken Hutcherson is still pursuing action against the teacher at Mt. Si High School in Snoqualmie, Washington, who interrupted his Martin Luther King Day speech to voice his opposition to Hutcherson’s Christian views on marriage and sexuality. Teacher George Potratz later compared Hutcherson’s support for the biblical condemnation of homosexual behavior with advocacy for slavery.

Hutcherson perceived Potratz’s comment, in the context of the Martin Luther King Day appearance, as racist and complained to the Washington State Commission on African American Affairs. But after two telephone conversations with the commission’s executive director Rosalund Jenkins, Hutcherson is now accusing the gubernatorial appointee of making racist comments as well.

“She said to me, ‘Well, if you were the pastor of a black church, that would have much more impact than being the black pastor over there with a white church, and you’re the one that has chosen,’ basically, ‘to live over there with those people,’” Hutcherson details.

If you want to click over and read the whole article, it all comes back to the Homosexual Agenda’s alleged influence on the Commission on African American Affairs via its executive director Rosalund Jenkins and her colleagues.

While Hutcherson is critical of Jenkins, he realizes that she is just parroting the pro-homosexual leanings of her boss, Gov. Christine Gregoire. “We have a governor who is showing favoritism like never before. And it’s time for us to do something out here as Christians and as African Americans and people who want right done,” Hutcherson notes.

After the jump, a flashback of Hutch’s wife complaining that she and her family have been on the receiving end of grief because of Ken’s preaching of anti-gay bigotry.

Video break: defending Daddy D

Take a look at the latest from the entertainment wing of the Dobson empire. In one of its Stoplight presentations, Stuart Shepard defends the Focus on the Anus honcho’s political tactics.

As usual, Dobson is portrayed as a harmless man of God who likes to stay out of the limelight (Shepard actually tries floating that one), and that anything read into his messages is unfair. Please.

And check out this one—Focus has its knickers in a twist over Obama’s faith-based initiative plan AND his stance on marriage equality. How about that, considering all the sparring we’ve been doing about those two subjects?

A double dip: Milwaukee deacon, Maryland mayor caught cruising

CrimeFamily ValuesHypocritesSex

The summer heats up as pols and pastors get caught with their figurative pants down.

Milwaukee: Deacon exposes himself to undercover cop while cruising for homosex

Here we go again—another moral leader of his religious community lands in the pokey for a lewd act. Jerome Pitchford, 48, a youth counselor and deacon of Milwaukee’s Holy Redeemer Church of God in Christ was caught in a police sting in a park known for cruising. (WISN):

Police said Pitchford apparently does not practice what he teaches in Sunday School. Police say after church at the Holy Redeemer Church of God in Christ on Sunday afternoon, he was arrested and charged with lewd and lascivious behavior at Milwaukee’s Estabrook Park.

The criminal complaint says he was looking for sex with another man. He exposed himself, to what turned out to be an undercover police officer. “They initiate either by you know grabbing the officer, which is fourth-degree sexual assault or exposing themselves, which is lewd and lascivious behavior,” said Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Deputy John Nelson.

One neighbor had this reaction, laying the groundwork for a “the devil got into me” defense:  “I can’t believe it, but I hope that he will get … a little therapy and get himself straightened out.” The video report is here.

Another tale from Maryland is below the fold.

Professional fundies officially circle the wagons around McCain

“We are committed to a transgenerational, multiethnic and multiracial conservative movement.”
—a laughably bold Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel, to a gathering of 90+ fundies who are hand-wringing about the decline of their movement and what they need to do to revitalize it—in other words, Obama envy.

The faux Christians are desperate about this election, but they didn’t decide to form a circular firing squad over how pure the candidate is on their issues, the luminaries of the far right met and united behind a man they view with great suspicion and disdain—John McCain.

More than 90 evangelical leaders representing millions of conservative Christians met in Denver on Tuesday to lament the condition of the religious conservative movement and to conclude they should get behind Sen. John McCain even if they didn’t like everything about him as a candidate.

“The alternative is so bad we must support John McCain,” said Phyllis Schlafly, founder and president of Eagle Forum, adding that the leaders should have held a strategy meeting in 2001 when it was clear Vice President Dick Cheney wouldn’t run for president instead of waiting until four months before the 2008 election.

...Mostly white and middle-aged, the group was called together by Mathew Staver, president of Liberty Counsel and dean of the law school at Liberty University.

Who was on this list of womb-controlling, LGBT hating theocrats? Click and read after the jump.

Vitter and Craig co-sponsor Federal Marriage Amendment

The “I’m not sh*tting you” news of the day. Here are two guys who should have hung their hypocritical heads in shame after embarrassing their party, but they just can’t help themselves - they hate TEH GAYZ that much. (PageOneQ):

Two United States Senators implicated in extramarital sexual activity have named themselves as co-sponsors of S. J. RES. 43, dubbed the Marriage Protection Amendment. If ratified, the bill would amend the United States Constitution to state that marriage “shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman.”  Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID), who was arrested June 11, 2007 on charges of lewd conduct in a Minneapolis airport terminal, is co-sponsoring the amendment along with Sen. David Vitter (R-LA).

In July of 2007, Vitter was identified as a client of a prostitution firm owned by the late Deborah Jeane Palfrey, commonly known as The DC Madam.

Here’s the full text of S. J. RES. 43. The critical language:

Marriage in the United States shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman. Neither this Constitution, nor the constitution of any State, shall be construed to require that marriage or the legal incidents thereof be conferred upon any union other than the union of a man and a woman.

As far as I’m concerned, this is a great development for the Democrats, who can hold up Craig and Vitter as the poster children for the kind of pious hypocrisy that cost the GOP the House and Senate in 2006. Thanks, boys for your whoring and cruising around to remind everyone why you and your womb controlling, LGBT-hating party need to be bounced out of power.

Sponsor:
Sen Wicker, Roger F. [MS] (introduced 6/25/2008)

The full list of co-sponsors, no surprises here:
Sen Allard, Wayne [CO]  - 6/25/2008
Sen Brownback, Sam [KS]  - 6/25/2008
Sen Craig, Larry E. [ID]  - 6/25/2008
Sen Enzi, Michael B. [WY]  - 6/26/2008
Sen Inhofe, James M. [OK]  - 6/25/2008
Sen Roberts, Pat [KS]  - 6/25/2008
Sen Shelby, Richard C. [AL]  - 6/25/2008
Sen Thune, John [SD]  - 6/25/2008
Sen Vitter, David [LA]  - 6/25/2008

NOTE: At the end of the article…

A voice mail left for Craig spokesperson Susan Irby went unreturned. Attempts to contact Vitter’s press secretary Joel DiGrado were unsuccessful.

What?! They don’t have anything to say about the sponsorship of the bill? Don’t they want to hold a joint press conference?

Ah, let’s have a Big Larry flashback audio mashup by David Guggenheim of The Michelangelo Signorile Show:

NYT Mag interviews Charlie Crist: he hasn’t found ‘the right one’ for him

Ever since Florida Governor Charlie Crist helped ace Florida for John McCain, the rumors have been swirling that the tanned, dapper very single Crist is on the short list for VP. Unfortunately for Crist, there were already more rampant rumors already out there about his allegedly selectively padlocked closet door.

The NYT magazine this week featured a Q&A with Crist by Deborah Solomon, and yes, Charlie’s dating life came up.

You were married nearly 30 years ago, but the marriage lasted less than a year. Do you prefer living alone? I got married and divorced because it didn’t work out. I haven’t found the right one since. It’s really that simple.

You can’t find one woman in all of Florida? Maybe I have. Stay tuned.

Or would the right one have a schlong? Please. What kind of Q&A is this? You mean the NYT can’t just ask The Question? His orientation is relevant given his record, pro and con:

* Crist signed an inclusive anti-bullying law, but…
*  Crist opposed a bill that would have overturned the ban on the ability of gays to adopt in the state…but…
* Crist said he was ‘not moved’ to support the marriage amendment that will be on the ballot this fall.

Unlike the NY Times, the folks at the Green Iguana bar in Tampa and the Broward-Palm Beach New Times seem to pretty sure about the governor’s same-sex attractions based on his social activities back in the 90s. Hey, Crist could be bi for all we know.

Anyway, the homo buzz had gotten to such a fever pitch that a couple of weeks ago news broke that GOP sleazebag consultant Roger Stone was shopping around a tape of Crist “fooling around in a hotel elevator with his [still married] girlfriend” to prove Charlie’s a raging heterosexual. Surely Ms. Solomon could have asked the governor whether canoodling with an adulteress is the kind of activity supported by the party of family values.

IN: Former GOP chief pleads guilty to oral ‘deviate conduct’ on a sleeping man

Yessssss…it’s nice to see the case of Glenn Murphy, Jr. resolved during the campaign season. It’s a reminder that the GOP ranks are rife with Republican Sexual Hypocrites, perpetrating their sexual and criminal deviant behavior while presenting a pious, judgmental image to the public. (Courier-Journal):

The former chairman of the Clark County Republican Party pleaded guilty today to criminal deviate conduct as part of an agreement that could result in two years behind bars.

Glenn Murphy Jr. was arrested after authorities said he performed oral sex on a sleeping man following a July 28 party at a home in Jeffersonville.

...Murphy, who was also chairman of the Young Republican National Federation, resigned from both posts when the allegations were made public in August.

At the time of the criminal sexual activity, Murphy was at a party and spent the night on the top bunk in one of the bedrooms. At some point the predatory former Republican official decided to take advantage of the 22-year-old man in the lower bunk and

The man said he awoke at 6:40 the next morning and found Murphy performing oral sex on him, according to the document.

The man told Burton that he pushed Murphy away and left. Two days later, the affidavit said, the man met with Murphy and secretly taped a conversation during which Murphy apologized and begged him not to report the incident to police.

I don’t know what Murphy thought was going to happen; after all, it wasn’t the first time Murphy’s mouth ended up on someone’s privates while they were asleep. He had a prior arrest for sexual battery. Here’s the 1998 Clark County police report for your perusal (click to enlarge):

Ah, schadenfreude.

Talibangelist Bill Keller: Obama is no Christian

Ah, campaign season brings all the freakshow fundies out of the woodwork. Today’s self-important member of the religious fringe is the “Dr. Phil of prayer,” St. Petersburg, Florida-based Bill Keller of Liveprayer.com. He bleats to the Wildmon “news” organ OneNewsNow that Obama is a faux Christian Trojan Horse.

“A lot of the things that he is saying really call into question whether he really is a Christian,” says Keller, offering up as an example Obama’s statement that there are many roads that lead to God. “He has consistently been on record that he’s willing to give away part of the land that God himself gave to the children of Israel directly to their enemies,” he adds.

A campaign brochure titled “Faith. Hope. Change.” describes Senator Obama as a “committed Christian” who visited a local church one Sunday, “felt a beckoning of the spirit and accepted Jesus Christ into his life.” But Keller says Obama has views on social issues that most evangelicals regard as unbiblical.

“He has consistently voted to uphold a woman’s right to kill babies,” Keller points out. “He has consistently voted to support the gay agenda, gay ‘marriage,’ gay adoption, special rights for gays.” Keller says while obviously only God can judge a man’s heart, he does not think Senator Obama can call himself a Christian yet deny the basic tenets of the faith and rewrite them to suit his own purposes.

I guess John McCain’s wiping sweat off his brow for not sidling up to this character. Keller laughably goes on to say that he has requested a formal sit-down with Obama to answer questions about his Christian faith.

As if

, Bill. Like he should give you the time of day.

For extra batsh*ttery points, check out the OneNewsNow forum for the reader comments on the article. They are truly disturbing.

Who is Bill Keller, you might ask? What a shady background this character is; I first blogged about him back in April 2006 when he was profiled at Creative Loafing/The Weekly Planet. Read on below the fold.

The Peter’s sad obsession continues - his report on International Mr. Leather 2008

It’s what you all have been waiting for…this year’s “research” on the International Mr. Leather event by Peter LaBarbera. Long-time readers of the blog know that The Peter has become an expert in this sexual subculture, because every year he returns to the same event to gather even more information for his “Christian” readership—shocking information that has to be documented with photographs and breathless reporting.

He didn’t even manage to put up a photo from this year’s event in this post. Behold…
