Next entry: Let’s keep Secretary Leavitt spinning Previous entry: McCain Supporters For McCain!

Couldn’t have said it better myself

Some days, Republicans just put a smile on your face, despite the stupid/evil conundrum.

Republican National Committee Chairman Mike Duncan said the team of nearly two dozen staffers at the opposition headquarters will be “fact-checking” statements made by the Obama campaign and by speakers during the convention.

“Just consider this the Ministry of Truth,” quipped Dick Wadhams, chairman of the Colorado Republican Party.

Well, I was going to anyway, but thanks for the invitation

(Hat tip.)

You know, I really struggled with whether or not I should put up the link explaining the Ministry of Truth.  And then I thought about the lovely troll infestation the DNCC is creating at this blog and thought, “Okay, well the regular readers probably know what that means, but our recent visitors, less gifted in the neural arts, could probably use some help.”

‘s okay, they’ve been trying to shove every McCain statement of the last 12 years down the memory hole as fast as possible for weeks now, before somebody notices an inconsistancy.

Comment #2: Indy  on  08/26  at  06:08 PM

I can’t remember who said it first, but the republicans did not take that work as a warning, they took it as an instructional manual.

“...less gifted in the neural arts…”

That is so sharp I cut myself typing it… smile

Comment #4: MikeEss  on  08/26  at  06:09 PM

Haha, win.

“I can’t remember who said it first, but the republicans did not take that work as a warning, they took it as an instructional manual.”

Comrade Ogilvy, if he hadn’t tragically lost his life defending Oceania from the marauding hoards of Eastasia, would strongly disagree with that characterization.

Well, he would if he had really existed…

Comment #6: MikeEss  on  08/26  at  06:12 PM

Oh, geez.  It is still just as much fun when they make it easy!

Comment #7: artemisia  on  08/26  at  06:14 PM

Oh Keith Olbermann needs to hear about this, he just lives for moments like these.

Comment #8: catalexis  on  08/26  at  06:15 PM

For serious?  This isn’t a hoax?  Someone who actually made it to the head of a state political party actually said that?  What an exquisite bucket of fail.

Comment #9: realityfighter  on  08/26  at  06:26 PM

You mean that book was fiction? Well how do explain the thinkpol? Or for that matter, Fox News?

Comment #10: staydaddy  on  08/26  at  06:30 PM

I need Soma, my head’s going to explode!

Comment #11: CParis  on  08/26  at  06:30 PM

Reality, good point.  I’m changing the picture.

Comment #12: Amanda Marcotte  on  08/26  at  06:31 PM

I’ve got nothing to add except to say that reading that quote really, really brightened my day.

Comment #13: Bradley  on  08/26  at  06:36 PM

You know that guy has never actually read 1984. All he knows about the plot is that government was bad because there was only 1 brand of liquor for sale.

Comment #14: Viceroy Matt  on  08/26  at  06:47 PM

I wonder if Dick is related to Milton?

Comment #15: strychnine in the guacamole  on  08/26  at  06:50 PM

Considering the progress they’ve already made in instituting the Ministries of Love, Plenty and Peace, what’s one more?

Comment #16: Bitter Scribe  on  08/26  at  06:51 PM

Wait, the dude’s name is Dick Wadhams? Excuse me for being juvenile but I’m snickering.

Comment #17: Jenny Dreadful  on  08/26  at  07:01 PM

Once upon a time there was political party. Its tenets included “small government is good” and “commies are bad”. Then that political party got control of White House, created an enormous new government department and chose for its name an English mistranslation of “KGB”. Irony pretty much died that day, but evidently Irony is a zombie because that political party hasn’t stopped shooting Irony in the head.

Comment #18: Peter  on  08/26  at  07:25 PM

Wait, the dude’s name is Dick Wadhams? Excuse me for being juvenile but I’m snickering.

We know Dickwhad all to well in Virgina. Dickwhad turned two Republicans who were heavily favored to win their elections into losers.

First, he headed up Jerry “Hitler Ads on Yom Kippur” Kilgore for Governor campaign in 2005. Blew a 12 point lead the first week of October into a 5 point loss by election day.

Next, it was on to George “Macaca” Allen in 2006.

If John McCain puts him high up in the campaign, we can expect a gaffe sometime around late September/early October that hands the election to Obama.

Comment #19: Ben D.  on  08/26  at  07:59 PM

Just FYI, however, “soma” was from “Brave New World”, CParis, not “1984”.  Don’t mix the dystopian novels!

Comment #20: Antigone  on  08/26  at  08:26 PM

Double plus ungood!

Comment #21: Ms Kate  on  08/26  at  08:46 PM

Dickwad and the Ministry of Truth

That’s the best potential band name since that Gutterhelmet ad landed in my mailbox.

Comment #22: Ms Kate  on  08/26  at  08:50 PM

“less gifted in the neural arts.”

That is nice. I am going to steal it.

Comment #23: brandon  on  08/26  at  09:07 PM

Yes, Antigone is right.  The next round of victory gin is on me!

Comment #24: The Opoponax  on  08/26  at  09:14 PM

Yeah, the Repubs are totally against sex, it can’t be Brave New World.

Comment #25: Rebecca  on  08/26  at  09:30 PM

Thanks for the reminder, Antigone.  I was just hoping that if McMaverick gets elected they’ll just put Soma in the water so we can survive without killing ourselves.

Comment #26: CParis  on  08/26  at  10:15 PM

“Brave New World”: soma, free sex, rock and roll.  Where’s the dystopia?

Comment #27: Eric, Rejector of Memes  on  08/27  at  04:17 AM

This is, in its own way, Rovian in its brilliance. Don’t try to hide the fact that the GOP is a bunch of power-mad liars, state it up front. And then dare anyone with access to a podium to call you on it.

Comment #28: paul  on  08/27  at  11:34 AM

2 + 2 = 5!
