Bamboo Review: A Total Kick In The Balls

Personal

This week is my “spring” break from law school, where I was totally going to blog up a storm and relax and get back into my normal, non-law groove, even if just for a week.

Then I started coughing at the end of last week.  And shivering.  And getting terrible headaches.  As it turns out, I had the flu.  Emphasis on had, because I now have pneumonia.  I understand what I did wrong, law school.  Now, back to Contracts reading, before you smite me further.

Man, we just went through all that.  The baby and I had the flu, got well just in time for a long planned Florida vacation, then end of which the other two got sick—fever, brochitis, and asthma are not good playmates.  They missed a week of school.

ugh.

Feel better.

Jesse, I hope you feel better.  I live in AA (am an alum of said demon-haunted, pestilence inflicting law school too), and I believe everyone in my immediate family had this particular bug last week.  Blech!  Pneumonia.  I now feel quite lucky to be on the tail end of the flu.

Being sick IS the “normal, non-law groove” for a law student.

The flu going around this year seems to be particularly nasty.  One person I know who caught it spent a couple of weeks in bed because she managed to crack a rib (actually, 3 ribs) with her coughing.  One of my bosses is recovering from the same nasty coughing flu.  So far, my flu shot seems to be holding, but who knows if enough people catch it?

I’m really sorry to hear that.  I’m a 2L, and currently suffering flu symptoms.  The nice part about being a 2L is I can skip a week of class and shrug my shoulders.  No more hyper-competitiveness.

In any event, though, do whatever you’re supposed to be doing for pneumonia.  If you try to keep up your regular law school pace *and* recover from a serious illness, you’re going to take a lot more out of yourself than the sum of those individual tasks.

Plus you can use your blogosphere cred to get the good notes from people in your classes.  I hope you recover quickly.

Try to take it easy and feel better.  Like Mnemo, I’m just crossing my fingers and hoping my flu shot holds.  This seems to be the time of year to get it.

Each year, the flu shot has two type A viruses and one type B virus in it.

The last two years, two type A and two type B showed up.

The process for making the vaccines means that it takes a very long lead time to manufacture the shots, and they are limited to three strains.

I wonder when they are going to find a better way than inoculating and incubating virus in eggs?

That reminds me—time for my daily dose of Airborne!

(Yes, I know it doesn’t actually do anything.  Let me placebo myself with something harmless if I want to.)

Feel better.  Pneumonia means you’re tired and stressed.  But that is what being a 1L is all about, nu?

Take heart.  1st year sucks and the last two are better.  Plus, unless you have ambitions to be a law professor, the practice of law is nothing like law school.

Gaah- that’s always the way when you’ve got your head down and have been working your arse off for weeks, months years and then have a nice “break”.
Time to get *really* sick!

Thanks Murphy’s Law.

I hope you feel better soon- eat some nice homemade comfort food too. (not cupcakes with NyQuil frosting!)
