Corrupt former House Majority Leader Tom Delay to get down on Dancing with the Stars

Does this mean it will be “Hammer time” and we’ll see him in parachute pants?

Tom DeLay is the name DWTS executive producer Conrad Green expected to have “most people splattering on their cornflakes” following this morning’s announcement on Good Morning America. How did it come about? “I know it will sound stupid, we just asked him,” Green tells EW. “We usually throw a few Hail Marys every season to people we don’t think are gonna say yes, but we think, oh, why not ask him. Occasionally, they come off. As it turns out, Tom DeLay likes to do a bit of the Two Step, he likes dancing with his wife. His daughter is a country dancing champion, I believe. He actually really enjoys dancing. Now I don’t know whether that translates into him being the next Mario Lopez on the dance floor, but I think he’s gonna come into it with a big smile on his face and probably surprise a lot of people cause he’s gonna embrace it so much.”

Other toe-tappers will include:

• Donny Osmond: Singer, brother of DWTS Season 5 contestant Marie Osmond, and choreographer of his own freestyle moves in “Weird Al” Yankovic’s “White & Nerdy” video

• Macy Gray: Baby-voiced singer and performer on DWTS Season 4 (who famously commented on Apolo Anton Ohno’s “huge bulge” to reporters)

• Kelly Osbourne: Reality star/”singer”

• Debi Mazar: Actress (Entourage) and friend of Madonna

Maybe Mark Dascascos, who’s a world class martial artist (as well as the Chairman on Iron Chef America) can accidentally kick him in the face or something. That’s about what it would take to get me to watch.

I get having famous folks on, ratings and all; but a person who’s famous for being a crooked politician.  Jesus, just when you think they can’t sink any lower…

So is legal trouble now the Republican way to achieve “street cred” among the media and the proles?  Are there any real consequences any more for bad behavior (at least from Republican politicians)?...

This is also more proof there is no god.  If there was, Tom DeLay would be nothing better than an animal control officer picking up dead carcasses off some lonely road in the middle of Texas…and George Bush would be his sidekick…

Not really, MikeEss. It might be proof that God is just the universe’s biggest douchebag.

“So, we were looking through the applications and we were really running low on choices.  And so it came down to Tom DeLay and the guy who did the voice for Hank Hill from King of the Hill, and I turned to my director and asked, ‘Which one of these would most likely piss off the liberals?’”

Oh Debi Mazar, you’re better than this.

(Or are you?)

Yet another Republican criminal who never went to prison for his crimes.

By the bye, I don’t know how you did that picture but it is utterly priceless.  Or is it real and somebody took it at one of his famous ‘secret’ meetings?

Well, at least he’ll be occupied away from putting his career back together for a few months.

What? No Bill Kristol?

If I only still had TV reception, I’d see this as an opportunity to test Amanda’s theory you can hate the jerk but be impressed by his work.
Although, I’d be rooting against him, because.

Mark Sanford would be a better choice—the Argentinean Tango is one of the required dances.

I’m all for introducing Republican politicians to “hammer time” - but what does that have to do with dancing?

Apropros of nothing…

when i was 9, i was in the hospital most of the year. at Children’s Hospital, Stanford. and they were shooting a commercial.

so to pay for a large chunk of my hospitalization, i was in a commercial with Marie Osmond. she was wearing dozens of bangle-braclets, almost up to her elbow - i remember, because she went out of her way to assure me that the number she was wearing for the shoot was “tame” compared to what she normally wore, which was half-way up her upper arm.
oh - and she didn’t care whatsoever that i asked her who she was and why she was famous - she was *REALLY* nice, very friendly, knew how to deal with a kid with a chronic illness who’d been trapped in a hospital for months.

she was *SO* nice i asked my parents to get me a tape of hers.
she was *SO* nice i didn’t believe that the tape i listened to was HERS. i HATED that tape…

Uh, what’s with the picture? Are you actually trying to insult someone by showing them in “gender-inappropriate” clothing? Isn’t it a bit ironic for a feminist, liberal blog to be mocking a male opponent by showing them in a dress? O_o

Kelly Osbourne’s tagline line should be: reality star/“singer”/royalty.

Does anyone else think Donny Osmond and Macy Gray are on the same level with Kelly Osbourne and someone whose second strongest tag is “friend of Madonna”?

Donny Osmond, say what you will, didn’t become an ex-child star cautionary tale.

(And I’m not a fan of his, just a theater guy with a long memory. I had no interest in “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”. I also remember 1982, when he starred in “Little Johnny Jones” on B’way for exactly *one* performance, about which a reviewer said “He dances in step, he sings in tune, and when called upon, is as threatening as a stop sign.” No cite, sorry.)

Macy Gray’s singing has a rhythm which I hope will transfer to the dance floor.

PS What’s the over/under on how often judges will say that Tom DeLay is “dancing like he’s stepping on cockroaches”?
