Everything That Is Wrong With Our Media

Batsh*t CrazyMediaRace

Sarah Palin releases a web video in which she pays women to dress like bears and pretend to maul socialism or something.

Cable news covers it ad nauseum, and justifies its coverage by saying everyone’s talking about it, even though “everyone” literally only means the people who are talking about how much everyone else is talking about it.  The discussion of the discussion is then discussed on Politico, which then uses the completely self-referential dialogue to point out how Sarah Palin is rehabilitating her image and winning the day.

Meanwhile, it is apparently pretty much okay in America to shoot a man laying on the ground in the back because you’re too frightened to check to make sure you’re inappropriately tazing him rather than killing him

If only Oscar Grant had been savvy enough to release a web ad…

I hope the Feds step in here with civil rights charges.  “Oh, so you testified that you were only trying to torture Mr. Grant, not kill him?  Yeah, about that…”

That politico article is pretty awful. “Its important to cut spending but not the spending on defense” and she gets lauded as some kind of genius.

Has anyone else found it increasingly difficult to read anything about Sarah Palin? I don’t mean in a nauseous “I’m so sick of her way”, I mean in a “every second sentence is a clichĂ© or a quote of something stupid she said and you could see where it was going by the second word but you have to finish the sentence and the next one is just going to be the same again” way so you just end up skimming for a minute or two and then you aren’t sure if you actually read anything by the time you get to the end of it?

I really hope this woman runs for President, because she won’t get the Republican nomination—but she will lead a total path of divisive destruction through the Republican primaries with her antics and her fanatical supporter.

Just imagine how upset the Palin fanbois are going to be when she fails to win the nomination. It will make the fake, ginned-up “PUMA"and “Operation Chaos” stuff look like child’s play.

The general problem with the news media, especially the news media on television, is the attempt to make a profit doing the news. The news wasn’t meant to be profitable, it was meant to keep people informed of important events on the international, national, and local level even if the important event wasn’t particularly sexy and potentially rather boring. When you try to make money off of the news, you end up focusing on scandal and sensation rather than actual news. This has been a problem since at least the rise of the modern metropolitan newspaper in the late 19th century, all the problems with yellow journalism. 24 hour cable news makes it worse.

Pharmakos at 2: Sarah Palin doesn’t make any sense because she is a moron, a really stupid person. Many morons believe that stringing together a bunch of cliches and folk wisdom counts as intelligent discourse.

it’s hard to release a web ad, when you’re dead. unless you happen to be ronald reagan.

My God - that video.  It’s Know Nothing faux-feminism.

Laurie Anderson had it right.

“Cause when love is gone, there’s always justice.
And when justive is gone, there’s always force.
And when force is gone, there’s always Mom. Hi Mom!”

Palin wants you to vote Mom, ‘cos there’s no love or justice left in Republican America, and they’ve reached the limits of force.

I know she’s an idiot. I’m just puzzled by how dull she is and how dull every article about her is. Bush may have been an idiot but at least he was interesting in how all over the place he was. At least when you read an article about W you don’t feel like five minutes disappeared and you don’t know where they went.

Pharmakos at 8: Sarah Palin is an idiot in the modern and original sense of the word to. I guess that she’s dull because she is an idiot. She has no interests in people different than herself, except maybe as a target of hate, and therefore limits herself culturally. She is certainly anti-intellectual and displays a frightening lack of curiosity. This makes for a dull person, especially when combined with stupidity. Since Palin is boring, articles about her are boring.

thank you for the frighteningly obvious again when i was only making an observation about what its like to read an article about her

The western press, especially in the U.S., at least the main stream media, is propaganda driven, and the empire is striking at the heart of journalism as we have known it.

As a foreigner I have to say it is pretty amazing to me that someone so obviously incompetent as Sarah Palin is pandered to by the media, seriously just a casual look at what she has said, done, and talks about doing should be enough for her to be completely shredded by the press, so much so that she should have an uncomfortable time leaving the house let alone running for public office. The fact that this is not the case should be seen as a national disgrace
