Faux News parachutes in to hassle anti-Palin bloggers in Alaska

Friend of the Blend Linda Kellen Biegal of Celtic Diva is one of several bloggers up in Alaska who warned everyone long ago about Sarah Palin and her corrupt government. Linda recently lodged an ethics complaint against the failed veep candidate and debate winkster. In the spirit of Bill O’Reilly and his attack dog producers, Faux News sent reporters to Alaska to “investigate” the charges. (Raw Story):

When a Fox News crew showed up in Alaska to do a story on the complaints, Biegel and several of the other bloggers were suspicious of their intentions and declined to be interviewed.

The result, says Biegel, was that “the news crew decided that since several of us refused to be on camera, they were going to ‘ambush’ us.” She adds, “Good luck finding me after my recent move!!!!!”

Biegel’s ethics complaint—the eleventh to be filed against Palin since last year’s “Troopergate” scandal—alleges that Palin was guilty of a conflict of interest when she publicly wore clothing promoting a snowmobile manufacturer, Arctic Cat, that sponsors her husband, Todd Palin.

As another Alaska blog, the Mudflats, explains, “It all began when Governor Sarah Palin lowered the start flag at this year’s Iron Dog Snowmachine race ... Last year’s champions? None other than Alaska’s ‘first dude’ Todd Palin and his teammate Scott Davis as the famous Team #22. ... Palin’s sponsor? Arctic Cat.”

“If the governor’s family benefits directly from a private sponsor,” the Mudflats continues, “(like getting a $5000 check from them) and the governor shows up to take an official role at an official event, representing all Alaskans, it’s a big fat no-no to show up plastered like a billboard with the official ‘gear’ and giant flaming logo of the company that’s been paying you money.”

You won’t believe the hate mail flowing into Linda’s email box from the Sarah droids. Well, you probably can, given the calibre of people who attended the Palin rallies during the campaign. A sampling is below the fold.
I see these folks have a serious problem with debating actual issues, and chose to lash out at Linda’s appearance.

—LOL!  I read the article of some dumb ass blogger filing charges against the lovely Gov Palin, again, and I thought to myself, gotta be an ugly fat bitch filing the complaint.  I WAS RIGHT.  You are an ugly fat bitch.  Only kinda of man that would “tap” your ugly ass is a, well, a n**ger!  Go Obama, lol!

—YOU’RE A FAT UGLY-F**K WHO COULDN’T GET LAID IF SHE PRAYED FOR IT.

—wow, congrats on national news coverage….
but sadly you’re only coming across as a bitter jealous bitch…

—Yeah, you liberals have finally got your “Articulate Black Man” in the Presidency.  By giving Him a free pass over the last few years.  You should be ashamed of yourselves…

—I’m glad you live in Alaska cause you are one ugly fat bitch.

—I know Palin scares you!!  She is a threat to you!  So I’ve been thinking about ways of helping Gov Palin and hurting losers like you!
Today I realized what I could do smile.

There’s a redhead that works for our company…she’s not fat like you, but she’s a lib.  We are downsizing because of the loser you help elect…so I let her go!  The best part is that I will donate her salary to Sarah Palin PAC…IN YOUR NAME!!!!!! smile))))  That’s $1,500.00 a week!

That’s the hateful GOP base in full flower, the kind of people you saw in the recent documentary by Alexandra Pelosi, “Right America Feeling Wronged.” Here’s a flashback from my review of that doc, with a clip that says it all about the Base; they lash out at progressives and minorities because they feel their privilege is slipping away. These Palin devotees could be BFF with these folks in this video.

This clip is the best segment of the documentary—Pelosi goes up to a young man who has “socialism” spelled wrong on his t-shirt and asks him to define what it means. I can’t even begin to tell you how vapid, confused and sad his answer is. But before that, she speaks with people about how they get their news. It’s no surprise that they are all Faux News bots.

Also featured is a stop in Concord, NC to interview self-described rednecks where she asks them point blank if they are ready to vote for a black man. Let’s just say they had no shame confirming that we are not living in a post-racial society. These people are scary folks; and they live in my state. I wonder what they thought when NC went Blue? What must they think now that the GOP is led (in name anyway) by a black man?

What is this obsession with “fat ugly bitches”?  What does that have to do with anything?

The guy at the end of the video IS male privilege.  If only all men were that scared of losing their power.  And what he doesn’t realize is Bush and his cronies have done more to him and his middle-class friends than any democrat.  They don’t see the hand coming out to help them because they’ve swallowed the Republican lies hook, line, and sinker.  It’s a damn shame.

Comment #2: speedbudget  on  03/28  at  09:44 AM

Ellid, these people think that’s the pinnacle of insults for a woman.  Because we are the sex class.  So all we are good for is a fuck, and if we aren’t attractive enough to fuck, we might as well lay down and die.

I would find those guys saying that to me a vast relief and a compliment, honestly.

Comment #3: speedbudget  on  03/28  at  09:45 AM

The whole “I layed off a librul and donated money to ...” is bullshit fantasy ... it’s hard to lay somebody off when from your mother’s basement!

There is so much projection here ... so much that also says that a woman ain’t nuthin if you cant look and drool ... that is quite telling about this particular group of people.  Somehow, I doubt any of them own businesses or wear anything fancier than Hanes sweats bought at WalMart on a given day because these come in XXXXXXL.  Passing on the hate from their lovely peers they want to get in good with is a sign of stupid, not smart.

No kidding.  The confusion, fear, and pain were pretty hard to watch.

You see, Faux news is used to the East Coast, where plastering your face all over everything is a perk, not an ethics violation.

Much of the west was set up differently - not in culture, but in the legal structures designed to address certain things that were considered repugnant at the time they were created.

That’s why Faux don’t get that her endorsement of snowmachinery is a problem.  They are part of the east coast machine and good old boy network.

“Hi.  We’re from Fox News and - ” *SLAM*.

Ms Kate:

Also a violation on much of the east coast. Maybe mostly ignored, but “appearance of a conflict of interest” has been pretty big over the years, at least until the post-reagan era.

Comment #8: paul  on  03/28  at  03:38 PM

The guy at the end of the video is so pathetic I can’t even laugh at him.  The young dude with the misspelled socialism shirt OTOH, made me laugh my ass off.

Comment #9: DonnaDiva  on  03/28  at  04:53 PM

Not from what I see in Massachusetts, Paul - at least we don’t get what are essentially campaign ads sent on the public dime with a big glossy photo of some clown claiming credit for some “innovation” in service that other states had for years.

Then again, as an Oregonian by birth, I consider any body who puts their name in huge letters first over a giant photo of themselves on something the state paid for with their office in teeny letters underneath to be abusing the privileges of their office.

Comment #10: Ms Kate  on  03/28  at  05:28 PM

I meant that we don’t get as much of that campaign ads masquerading as communication any more.  We still have Alosi the Aloser with his sister in a lucrative no-show job and “OMFG it’s a Mooninite” Martha the Croaker Coakley with her “the contractors that ordered a cheap but inappropriate adhesive are my buddies so I’ll make a big grandstanding attack on the adhesive manufacturer that clearly told them not to use the cheap stuff there” when a huge cement panel squashed a woman driving through a tunnel like a bug.  Wonderful people, and no conflicts of interest at all—- NOT!

Comment #11: Ms Kate  on  03/28  at  05:34 PM

I write for a local blog and am often the target of comments about my appearance and perceived sexuality.  It’s rather bizarre since at age 40, I could rather give a crap what some zit-festooned loser pounding away on his computer thinks of my desirability.

They can be fat ugly bitches- as long as they have penises (and cochlear implants from years of Oxycontin abuse).

It’s a long used “tactic”- they figure that since calling women ugly in junior high and high school seemed to work that it’s going to keep on working with grown adults. It’s yet another way that the patriarchal world that we live in can keep those bitches on their toes at all times. And let them know that whatever comes out of their mouths can be quickly nullified by schoolyard taunting.
Ugh.

Wait…if you’re downsizing, how can you afford to donate someone’s salary? Or if you don’t actually need to save money, why the hell are you downsizing?

And I have to guess that as a reason for letting someone go, “you’re a liberal woman and I’m currently mad at some other liberal woman I don’t even know” probably violates at least one state or federal employment law.

The thing that stuck with me most from Naomi Wolf’s The Beauty Myth is how beauty standards are a lot more about behavior than looks.  The “you’re a fat ugly pig and no one wants to fuck you” cudgel invariably comes out when your behavior is threatening a man’s power.  Not to say they don’t wield it all the time just in general, but especially then.  And it’s why liberal men make disparaging comments about Ann Coulter’s looks all the time, even though she is an attractive woman, objectively speaking.

Comment #15: DonnaDiva  on  03/28  at  08:12 PM

$1,500 as week is $75k a year.  No way that’s even vaguely a possibility.

Comment #16: Punditus Maximus  on  03/28  at  08:58 PM

Dorothy, don’t think for a minute that this person had any real power to hire or fire anybody for anything - firing mommy and daddy would just mean having to find his own basement and do his own laundry.

Comment #17: Ms Kate  on  03/28  at  09:47 PM

You know, some of these Palin-lovin’ Christians seem to have a problem comprehending all those things their lord said while he was on earth.  How “turn the other cheek” was ever translated into e-mailing “hey fat bitch” we will never know.

Comment #18: Ms Kate  on  03/28  at  09:51 PM

Ms. Kate -

Who is “Alosi”?  If you mean Sal DiMasi, he’s done like dinner.  And whatever Martha Coakley has or has not done, she is FAR better than Billy Bulger or any of another half dozen I could name in state government.

Comment #19: Ellid  on  03/29  at  12:23 AM

Search news for “Aloisi”.

No shit - I hope she can trace that email/ip address and fucking REPORT that turd.

You all might be interested to know that a local Alaska politician (a Dem, sadly) just “outed” the Mudflats blogger against her wishes.  http://themudflats.net

Comment #22: Betsy  on  03/29  at  01:14 AM

Ms. Kate, thanks for the lulz.

I’m tempted to start posting on right wing sites, posing as a successful business owner and claiming that I fired all the Dittoheads who worked for me and gave the money I saved to gay illegal immigrant abortionists and ACORN.

Comment #23: DonnaDiva  on  03/29  at  02:16 AM

Oh, *that* Aloisi.

*shrug*

Sorry, but Secretary of Transportation is not a cabinet office that means diddly out here in Hampshire County.  We always get screwed regardless of who is Governor.

Comment #24: Ellid  on  03/29  at  07:33 AM

Thanks for the link to the “Mudflats/Doogan” brouhaha in Alaska, Betsy! That was educational. And hits home at Pandagon, Amanda having gone through (still going through) stalking as political repercussion for daring to have opinions herself.

The Mudflats mess is different because AKMuckraker, unlike Amanda, kept anonymous and the nastiness is about her identity being outed at all. But clearly the same sort of intimidating bullshit.

I posted on one of the threads over there, when gubernatorial (I’m guessing, Democratic) candidate Bob Poe weighed in with a guest post, suggesting that Doogan reacted the way he did because he was a professional journalist, frustrated by the newly emerging norms of the online communities, which as AKMuckraker pointed out elsewhere, includes anonymity just as say Ben Franklin used it back in his day—to make arguments that might bring retribution onto a publicly identified speaker. I pointed out what Fred Clark, non-anonymous professional journalist as well as handled blogger (Slacktivist) said about what is really killing journalism—the suits in the corporate headquarters, who seek inordinate profits rather than reasonable ones.

For those who missed Fred’s kickass post last fall:

http://slacktivist.typepad.com/slacktivist/2008/11/why-oh-why-cant-we-have-a-better-press-corps.html

Not that I think this is the whole story; I have my doubts about the whole notion of “professional journalism” as we have enshrined it in our culture. At any rate, I don’t think it should be everything in the sphere of public debate. Ideally, we should have a vigorous professional journalism and also a vigorous sphere of opinionated commentary on the same. I protested the meme that the latter is responsible for the decline of the former.

Anyway it greatly dismayed me that it was a Democrat who did this outrageous thing, but I hope the maximum consequences—at least losing a big First Amendment lawsuit, and I hope his replacement by another Democrat (one more sensitive to the idea that they have, you know, a constituency, and aren’t there in Juneau to rule from high Olympus as unaccountable gods as he seems to think) happen to him as soon as possible.

And I hope nothing bad happens to AKMuckraker or family.

Comment #26: Mark Foxwell  on  03/29  at  01:35 PM

you know, there is a law that addresses the acts of people who harass and intimidate those who are merely taking legal actions and rightful activities like waging ethics complaints ... it is called RICO.

Maybe the PaliNation should consider that conspiring on the internets to harass and intimidate into silence those who are asking for laws to be enforced could rationally be considered to be racketeering?

Not like there isn’t some precident for applying RICO to people who use these kind of tactics ...

Comment #27: Ms Kate  on  03/29  at  02:03 PM

Donna, I actually don’t think that Coulter is physically attractive, or at all pretty, but that’s a matter of taste.  I also wouldn’t use her as an example for liberal males doing what is being discussed to, and this is why:  Coulter is the one who has set herself out as an example of what a woman should look like, and constantly claims that liberal women are fat and ugly, and that “the pretty girls are with us”.

Of course she was going to get pushback on that.  Unless the blogger under discussion here has been going around calling conservative women fat and ugly and claiming that all of the pretty girls are on her side, then I just don’t believe that the two situations are at all comparable.
