Former Regent University law dean pleads guilty to forcible sodomy with minors

From Virginia, the land of Pat Robertson and Monica Goodling—Regent University—a pious pervert bites it.

Stephen McPherson, a former Regent University law school assistant dean, pleaded guilty Friday in Chesapeake Circuit Court to sexually abusing children.

McPherson, 39, of Chesapeake entered guilty pleas to two counts of forcible sodomy and two counts of object sexual penetration. He is set to be sentenced May 22.

McPherson faces five years to life on each count. Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorneys Karen Brown and Minna Sandwich agreed to withdraw nine other felonies against McPherson in return for his pleas.

In the indictment he was accused of assaulting girls between May 2000 and May 2002. The judge has ordered McPherson to “undergo a psychosexual exam.”

How, pray tell, will this jibe with the fundie meme that sodomy, in particular criminal acts involving sodomy, is somehow only being committed by homos?

Well, he was in the closet, so obviously he was just trying to subvert Regent from within. No doubt a witchhunt (erm) against his former friends and associates will be started forthwith.

Christianism is really a perfect hiding/hunting ground for child molesters like this, because of the tight, authoritarian social structure. Kids wouldn’t dare complain (if they even knew what to complain about) and no one in power would listen if they did.

The little girls must have been asking for it—wearing their unicorn panties. The tramps! No adult man should ever be held responsible for his conduct when faced with the overt sexuality of any creature (yes, I mean human or animal) in possession of a vagina. Clearly, Jesus said: “Men are animals and cannot control themselves, therefore all women, children, and farm creatures should be bound by burqas and kept out of public for eternity” (look it up, its in the Sermon on the Mount…huh, mount…see, its all so clear!).

Seriously, fucking asshole. Fucking asshole University that teaches obedience and abuse as sacred. The Christianist fascists are really truly moral and intellectual cowards.

Easy. You say McPherson is a closet homo.

I had a diatribe bubbling in around in my skull about how religious fanatics of all flavours should be shipped off to some reservation and provided with plentiful supplies of nerve agents and small arms; they’ll surely put the rest of themselves out of our misery; but this all too foul to indulge in wishing.

“Commonwealth’s Attorneys Karen Brown and Minna Sandwich agreed to withdraw nine other felonies against McPherson in return for his pleas.”

18 years in general pop is least they can do.

Especially since he preyed on *girls*, not boys.

What a sleazebag.

But you see, it’s all because gay marriage is legal in Massachusetts! Or something.

Or they were wearing “trousers”.

Or attempting to get an education.

Men are easily inflamed by those little hussies, and you can’t really hold them responsible for their actions.  God said so.

Fundamentalists will deal with this the same way they deal with any fact, thought, or concept that fails to to fit into their narrow little worldview - they’ll pretend it never happened. Faith is just the ability to ignore reality.

Well, since gays are running around in the wild now, they’re inspiring these thoughts of sodomy because before gay men did it, no heterosexual man ever thought of anal sex. EVER.

Next thing you know heterosexual couples will be trying bondage or S&M;.

To be honest, I think we all know how they’ll deal with this—there will be lots of head-shaking and lamentations about Satan entering their community, all leading to the inevitable conclusion that what happened was terrible, but pretty much unavoidable, because Satan is super powerful and can corrupt anyone.  In fact, the only solution will be to continue to pour all of their energy into a blind, unquestioning faith in their god—any attempts at serious introspection will only make the issue more confusing.

Those of us on the outside will point out, “Hey, you have an obligation to make sure his victims are taken care of while they try to heal from this trauma” or “Hey, you’ve got to take a close look at this community you’ve built for yourself and figure out if there’s any reasonable way to prevent this sort of tragedy from happening again.”  And they’ll reply with “We’re on it,” and re-double their efforts at being hateful and mean, thinking that that’s the way to secure God’s blessing.

Bingo.  They will ignore it, they’ll say he was suddenly not a True Christian(tm), he was posessed, etc ad nauseum.  Excuses will abound, but the one thing that won’t happen is them actually changing anything to protect children.

Why the emphasis on sodomy in the law?  The fact is, even NON sodomy with a child is called CHILD RAPE.

Comment #12: Ms Kate  on  01/27  at  11:28 AM

I’d be laughing my ass off about this if it wasn’t so sick.  Bastard.

Fundies have the magic get out of trouble spell.  Remember Swaggart?  “I have sinned against you Lord.”  Tearful repentance and boom - back in good graces.

Regent will respond to this with prayer and a blind eye towards anyone else on staff who is showing signs of these tendencies.

Tearful show of false repentance unsatisfactory to God and boom

Fixed that for ya, togolosh.

Bradley:

You forgot about the part where they shame the girls and make them wonder what kind of seductive things they could have done to make such a nice man commit indecencies.

Aaron, seriously? No BOOM because no sky-fairy—try again.

We human beings need to address the abuses of other human beings, particularly CHILDREN with our human institutions and covenants. This community of fundies fails women and girls repeatedly, relying on divine punishments rather than really dealing with how their love of patriarchy, hierarchy, and contempt for anyone female results in abuse and the cover-up of abuse.

I don’t know, Ms Kate, but my first thought at the odd wording was that it involved oral sex. It is a kind of sodomy, an while it would be emotionally traumatic, it wouldn’t cause the physical damage that piv or anal rape would cause.

Comment #18: Samantha Vimes  on  01/28  at  07:34 AM

togolosh is right.  This guy will serve some time, be released early for good behavior and probably end up working in the faith community again, spewing the line that he committed those horrible acts because he lost touch with God and The Word.  Once he’s released, of course, he’ll have found God again and renewed his faith, confident that God has returned the favor and renewed faith in him - and of course, FORGIVEN him - and given him a new mission to work with families in crisis or some such shit that puts him back in the presence of people dumb and evil enough to risk their children’s safety under the guise of religious fellowship.

There isn’t a prison sentence long enough for an adult that molests a child.
