Friday Genius Ten “Go Ahead And Cry” Edition

Well that week sucked.  Thus, this week’s Genius Ten original song.  Leave yours in comments.

“All I Can Do Is Cry”—-Wayne Walker

1) “Think”—-Lyn Collins
2) “Who’s Gonna Save My Soul”—-Gnarls Barkley
3) “Controversy”—-Prince
4) “I Want You Back”—-The Jackson 5
5) “A Change Is Gonna Come”—-Sam Cooke
6) “Got To Give It Up”—-Marvin Gaye
7) “These Arms Of Mine”—-Otis Redding
8) “Tell Me”—-Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings
9) “The Healer”—-Eryka Badu
10) “Hallelujah I Love Her So”—-Ray Charles

Videos and a picture of Dusty being comforted below the fold.

Molly was not very up for photos, this week, but Dusty has gotten into the habit of curling up on Marc’s chest when he comes home and passing out pretty much immediately.  He’s like cat Xanax.

Amanda,

I give you “Cryfest”—the only appropriate response to this week.

http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/322931/DC/Washington-DC/CRYFEST-THE-CURE-vs-THE-SMITHS-DANCE-PARTY/Black-Cat/

I am now awaiting the start of the george Tiller murder trial with dread.  It sounds like it could be a disaster.

January is not shaping up too good. I think I got some defective black-eyed peas on New Years’ Day. :(

Listening to the Clash while laid up with a broken ankle.

Comment #2: Mighty Ponygirl  on  01/22  at  12:37 PM

Yeah, January has been a real stinker of a month. The earthquake in Haiti, my own personal family issues, then the Massachusetts election, then the Supreme Court decision to poop on the Constitution, Health Care Reform is circling the drain again, and then blogger TBogg loses his sweet basset hound, Beckham. Really, I don’t dare ask what else could go wrong.

Here’s hoping that things start to turn around. There isn’t enough sad music in the world to compensate for the devastation.

After Citizens United v. FCC, I think I’ll just listen to Tracy Chapman’s Talking About a Revolution.

That and some Billy Bragg.

The Stooges—Dirt.

Dead Kennedys - I Fought the Law (And I Won)

Take two to counteract hopeless despair: Sample Bitch Story and Donomichi.

By Doddodo—some teenaged, Japanese, electro-punk girl who, using only a casio and a sampler, makes music that sounds like Public Enemey crashing into AddN to (x) on the set of The Sound of Music. Absolutely, insanely fun.

Cat Xanax?  If your cats are anything like mine, they can sleep anywhere, any time.

Comment #8: Dana  on  01/22  at  02:37 PM

I prefer Cat Xanadu. The little rollerskates are soooo cute!

Add me to the list of people stating that if 2009 sucked, Jan 2010 has us bent over, tied down to an anthill, and dipped in honey.

On the local level here, my daughter was diagnosed with diabetes, the state lege wants to force all the state agencies - including my state college employer - to form one monolithic state IT agency, and last night, my desktop machine got nailed with a drive-by virus.

Barenaked Ladies - Bad Day

I just want to say that my Genius lists aren’t even remotely as interesting as Amanda’s.

And yes, January has sucked. Bigtime.

Comment #11: BrianX  on  01/22  at  02:47 PM

Actually, my past 3 years have been so shitty that January has been kind of a breather. I expect nuclear apocalypse in February, naturally.

Comment #12: Well, what?  on  01/22  at  03:14 PM

And for those who may not know the Isaac Hayes tune Hyperbolicsyllablecsesquedalymistic

Ditto for me on the Sucky January front.

That said, I did my taxes last night and am getting a big refund which will enable me to buy a new computer and an oh-so-bourgeois international plane ticket, so yay.  Hopefully that will make February less shitty than January.  Or I’ll get a stray 1099 in the mail in March and descend into IRS hell.

Comment #15: The Opoponax  on  01/22  at  06:14 PM

an oh-so-bourgeois international plane ticket,

bwahahahahahaha…awesome.

Comment #16: Well, what?  on  01/22  at  07:01 PM

Well, at least there are only 28 days in which that nuclear apocalypse can occur!

Comment #19: Dana  on  01/23  at  09:52 AM

Yeah, this week basically calls for getting a bottle of bourbon, listening to Wilco and having a nice evening of drunken blank staring at the wall.
