Friday Random Ten “God No 90s Nostalgia” Edition

Ten songs at random.  Leave ‘em in comments.  Here’s mine:

1) “Police Story”—-The Dirty Projectors
2) “My Baby Does Good Sculptures”—-The Rezillos
3) “Incinerate”—-Sonic Youth
4) “Feng Shui”—-Gnarls Barkley
5) “Today Yr. Love, Tomorrow The World”—-Sonic Youth (Ramones cover)
6) “Riot Radio”—-The Dead 60s
7) “The Pill”—-Loretta Lynn
8) “Lipstick Traces”—-The O’Jays
9) “This Is All I Came To Do”—-Dinosaur Jr.
10) “Deceptataffy”—-Party Ben

How about a cat picture and then some videos?

That entire corner looks different now.  Different curtains plus I cleared out all those vines.  So this shot will never happen again.  Deep, I know.

Here are videos off records I shamelessly bought for $1 a piece last night:

And that’s why records are fun.  I can listen to “Barracuda” whenever I want for $1.  So there.

Mick Collins of the Dirtbombs is out about his love of Soft Cell.  And so am I.

As for the title of this post.  Well, apparently Liz Phair is touring and performing the entire album “Exile in Guyville” in order.  This tour is coming nowhere near Austin.  I have mixed feelings about this.  On one hand, I can’t go see this.  On the other, I don’t have to admit that I paid money for that.  So a mixed blessing.

Everyone has a favorite song off that album, usually of the explicitly sexual variety.  I like this one, though:

Seeing that George Michael song….well, I went to his concert here in Boston this summer. Fucking Brilliant!  He doesn’t have the high notes anymore (the recording of “Somebody to Love” he did with Queen after Freddie died would be impossible this year), but damn that queen can put on a show.  And the final encore of Freedom ‘90, well it was almost cathartic.

This isn’t exactly on-topic but not quite off-topic either:

“Musical tastes and personality type are closely related, according to a study of more than 36,000 people from around the world.”

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/scotland/7598549.stm

I have no idea if these findings are credible or what.  I wouldn’t want to ruin an interesting story like this with actual research.  It would explain why Wayne Kramer and George Szell are both on my MP3 player.

It is, kinda. Deep.
The moment will never ever in an eternity of a gazillion universes happen again.
But it did - we have this mental image…and here’s a reminder image too.
[or 60,000, given the web]
Nice picture. Lovely moment too, I bet.

SOFT CELL!  Yea!  (oh, and your cat looks so happy, Amanda!)
Dr. Locrian:  saw your comment a few days ago, from last week- they misspelled my husband’s name in the credits to the Buffy RPG book.  but, yeah:  I can never win any argument about anything (well almost anything)- especially concerning Buffy & Angel trivia.  I guess I remember things wrong?  anyway:  credited for his wide knowledge of Buffy factoids.  he would love to get some gaming friends in KCMO, but they’re easier to find in Lawrence, KS.  I am scared of dyes that are ten-sided.

‘Stratford-on-Guy’. I like that one too, because it’s kind of wonky and blurry and impressionistic, which isn’t in keeping with most of Phair’s lyrics:

I was flying into Chicago at night
Watching the lake turn the sky into blue-green smoke
The sun was setting to the left of the plane
And the cabin was filled with an unearthly glow
In 27-D, I was behind the wing
Watching landscape roll out like credits on a screen..

I try to forget what she’s done in the past five years.
