Next entry: The program of the Republican National Convention Previous entry: Don’t get me started about those Smith bastards

GAAAAAAAH

Media

Lilly Ledbetter just gave a good speech at the Democratic Convention talking about equal pay and the distinction between Obama (good) and McCain (evil) on the issue.

However, you wouldn’t know it by watching CNN, because they had to talk to Bob Casey about attacking McCain and what Hillary Clinton was going to do, and then cover the wacky dance party on the floor.

It’s amazing how they’ve spent 12 hours today discussing how the Democrats approach older white female voters and then blatantly ignore the older white female voter discussing a core feminist issue.  Or wait, it’s not amazing at all.  What the fuck am I talking about?  I’m drunk off of the AWESOME DANCE TUNEZ.

Well, you know, the fact that McCain voted against equal pay for equal work will probably resonate with female voters that are supposedly so hard to get for Obama.  And god forbid you educate the voters on an issue they want to know more about.  They might vote the “wrong” way.

PBS not only didn’t talk over it, but covered and then did commentary on it.  And Lehrher talked about back in the day, when it was discovered that the female reporters at the newspaper he worked for were only making half what the men was making, they all got together to raise a ruckus and make sure the women got raised to equal pay.  Which was cool.  Brooks, of course, pissed all over that, acting like this must have been in like 1905, and by the time he came up this obviously never happened anymore because women were like, his editors and such.  As commentary on the speech given by the plaintiff of a Supreme Court case on equal pay, where that ideal was shot the fuck down.

Fuck you, David Brooks.  Fuck.  You.

Something I say so much in this house that I’m thinking of getting an embroidery made saying that, so I can just point to it and save my breath.

I have to say, I’m so much happier watching the U.S. Open (well, having it on in the background while I read sexual citizenship stuff and goof-off online).

I’ll watch the speeches on YouTube in the morning over my espresso and oatmeal.

I caught that silly delegate from MD on MSNBC who was like, “I’d consider McCain” and was like, “Oh cripes, they’re pushing the nonsense.”

I’ll stick with Venus Williams and Roger Federer tonight.

C-SPAN is the way to go, even if it means you have to hear “The Power of Love” done karaoke style multiple times.

Seriously, that band is all kinds of awful.

You should sell them from the blog—I would definitely buy one.

Actually, an embroidered pillow with some really vulgar saying on it would be a really nice addition to my living room.  And if that was the saying, I could brandish it every time I watch The News Hour.

Oooh, I need it already; he just said the rhetoric at the DNC thus far has been “banal”.

Fuck you, David Brooks.  Fuck.  You.

Comment #6: The Opoponax  on  08/26  at  11:06 PM

Fuck the entire MSM. They’re made Hillary didn’t win (only because they were proven very wrong about her being “inevitable”) and now they’re determined to elect their second favorite, John McCain.

I need a drink.

“It’s amazing how they’ve spent 12 hours today discussing how the Democrats approach older white female voters and then blatantly ignore the older white female voter discussing a core feminist issue.”

John McCain spent 5 1/2 years unable to approach older white females…‘CAUSE HE WAS IN A TIGER CAGE IN VIETNAM!!!...

Comment #8: MikeEss  on  08/26  at  11:15 PM

Hillary better kick some ass tonight.

Comment #9: Ben D.  on  08/26  at  11:16 PM

Hillary better kick some ass tonight.

You better watch her do it on C-SPAN or PBS, because everyone else is going to say that she flubbed it, even if she gives Obama a tongue bath while defecating on a burning effigy of Dick Cheney.

Comment #10: Incertus, Nacho Daddy  on  08/26  at  11:28 PM

The Governor of Montana is kicking ass, but of course no one is covering it but C-SPAN.

Did I mention the MSM should go fuck itself?

Comment #11: Ben D.  on  08/26  at  11:30 PM

That line about not being able to get enough oil, even if we drilled in all of McCain’s back yards, even the ones he doesn’t know he has, was a hell of a line.

Comment #12: Incertus, Nacho Daddy  on  08/26  at  11:33 PM

I’ve never heard of Schweitzer much before, but that guy will be President one day.

Comment #13: Ben D.  on  08/26  at  11:35 PM

He’s kicking the hell out of the “dick” in petro-dictators. And if Warner gave the keynote, I want to know what speech that was supposed to be, because he just brought the house down.

Comment #14: Incertus, Nacho Daddy  on  08/26  at  11:36 PM

They’d love him in all those regions we have trouble winning him.

Comment #15: Ben D.  on  08/26  at  11:38 PM

MSM: “We can still get McCain in the White House, as long as we make sure the *voters* don’t fuck it up.”

*sigh*

Comment #16: BlackBloc  on  08/26  at  11:39 PM

Update:

Hillary is kicking ass.

the only plus to all the shots of the crazy dance party, old white people dancing are hilarious. its like babies dressed as bugs, you cant help but smile.

Comment #19: jessilikewhoa  on  08/27  at  12:10 AM

Gotta love the pre-speech montage ... featuring “hillary’s mother” and “hillary’s husband”.

That’s right - they had a Bill interview and the flowing script beneath read “Hillary’s husband”.

LMAO!

Comment #20: Ms Kate  on  08/27  at  12:17 AM

Did anybody else notice Ellie Smeal sitting behind Bill Clinton through Hillary’s speech?

Comment #21: The Opoponax  on  08/27  at  12:23 AM

Not that amazing. Bet Rachel Maddow doesn’t earn as much as Olbermann.

Comment #22: Roxanne  on  08/27  at  12:45 AM

So how does AP spin this as a victory for noun-verb-POW-man?

Fox News headline:

WAS CLINTON’S ENDORSEMENT OF OBAMA TAME?

Comment #25: Ben D.  on  08/27  at  12:53 AM

WAS CLINTON’S ENDORSEMENT OF OBAMA TAME?

HILLARY CLINTON: FERAL OR HOUSEBROKEN?

Comment #26: The Opoponax  on  08/27  at  01:01 AM

Lesson learned: tune PBS in, as they avoided doing that sort of crap.  Yes, Mrs. Ledbetter was excellent, the second best of the night - far better than the more practiced Kathleen Sebelius.

Comment #27: Bruce  on  08/27  at  01:15 AM

HILLARY CLINTON: FERAL OR HOUSEBROKEN?

Are you sure they weren’t asking that about Bill?  It would match some of the coverage I’ve been reading . .

Comment #28: idiosynchronic  on  08/27  at  01:42 AM

Hmmm…  You have a point…

(Just to make sure, my headline was a joke.)

Comment #29: The Opoponax  on  08/27  at  01:47 AM

It’s not the AP—it’s the NY Times, and I suppose it’s not quite an endorsement of McCain, but it sure tries to downplay Clinton’s enthusiasm in her speech and keep the “rift” in the spotlight.

Ledbetter was good, but I’d put her as third on the night, behind Clinton and Schweitzer. Schweitzer brought the house down, that’s for damn sure.

Comment #31: Incertus, Nacho Daddy  on  08/27  at  01:56 AM

breaking!

michelle malkin attacked at the democratic convention!

except…maybe not so much...

Comment #32: skippy  on  08/27  at  03:55 AM

Ms. Ledbetter gave a moving account of the injustice she suffered both at the hands of GoodyearCorp and the Bush-packed US “Supreme Court” and “Senate”. Senator Clinton gave the best speech of her career. I’ve never seen her be more convincing. We may just have a shot at this thing.

Comment #33: Taylor  on  08/27  at  04:11 AM

Now that Hillary’s speech is over, the MSM will ride the PUMA psuedo-controversy until the end of the convention (“Democrats in Crisis! Did she convince them?”), but it’s really over.

I don’t know what they’ll replace it with on the Dem side. Something race-related, I’m sure.—assassination worries and the like.

On the GOP side, it looks like the MSM have something to ride til 2 Nov: “The POW News Network: All-POW, All the time!”

Brian Schweitzer is my hero now. I’ve been waiting for that kind of Democrat to enter the national stage for a looooooong time.

We got a great candidate for 2016, folks.

Comment #35: Ben D.  on  08/27  at  09:49 AM

In 2016, I fear everyone on the Internet will be denouncing him as a triangulating sellout full of empty rhetoric.

I’m not sure there’s a Democrat in the world who hasn’t been denounced on the Internet as a triangulating sellout full of empty rhetoric.  We’re a bunch of Insufferable Politics Snobs.

Comment #37: FlipYrWhig  on  08/27  at  12:57 PM

CSPAN! CSPAN! CSPAN!!!!! No commercials, no analyses, NO interruptions.  Just you and the convention stage/speakers.

Comment #38: Jean  on  08/27  at  03:48 PM

lilly Ledbetter is pissed because the court didn\‘t change the law to suit her.
