Help Fund Responsible Sex Education

If you’ve ever read the website Scarleteen—-or even heard of it—-you probably know that it’s the best damn sex education website for teenagers out there.  Well, they’re having a fund-raising drive right now.  If you want kids to get responsible sex education when they log in to their computer and start looking around, and you don’t want them swimming in a sea of unrealistic porn that is intended to entertain and not educate, then please consider giving to Scarleteen.

Here’s how to do it:

  * To donate to Scarleteen by credit card, online check or via a PayPal account: click here and choose the button at the top of that page for the donation amount and style you prefer.

  * To donate by check or money order directly to Scarleteen: make checks payable to Scarleteen and send to: Scarleteen, 1752 NW Market Street #627, Seattle, WA, 98107.

  * If you would like your donation to be tax-deductible: you can donate by check or money order through The Center for Sex and Culture, a fiscal sponsor of Scarleteen online here. To mail a tax-deductible donation, make your check out to The Center for Sex and Culture, writing “For Scarleteen” in the memo. Mail that to: The Center for Sex and Culture, c/o Carol Queen, 2215-R Market Street PMB 455, San Francisco, CA, 94114. They will send a written acknowledgment of your donation to you for tax purposes, and will send us donations made to them on our behalf after deducting a very reasonable percentage.

Scarletteen was a great resource for me back when I was a teenage boy with all the stupidity that implies. I’ll see what I can do.

Does this website include realistic, educational porn? I ask because I think we can all use a refresher from time to time.

Dear lord! that’s right down the street from me…. I never knew!
Monies will be given.

Done and done - donation donated! I’d heard good things about the site, but I can’t believe I never really explored it until this afternoon. Good god, it’s amazing. I wish I’d had something like that in the ‘80s.

Only if we want them to be as psychologically challenged as you, MonkeyShines.

Will the money help insure that this is always the first website that pops up on google, etc. when someone enters search terms about sex education?

Thanks, Monkey Shines, for reinforcing the right wing nut belief that sex education is about literally showing kids how to have sex.  They know how to do that already; that’s why we need sex education, so they don’t hurt themselves.

DC Fem, I don’t think that’s something that you can just buy.  But if you want to go help Heather Corinna out with search engine optimization instead of donating money, I’m sure she’d be thrilled.

Awesome! Donation sent!

Seems apropos to quote this, too:

It takes five minutes to show someone how to put on a condom, but it takes a lot more to teach kids how to get into the respectful situations necessary to make sure the condom is in fact used.

Amen.
