So as it starts, my not-quite-2-year-old looks at the screen and hollers “‘Bama”  and “Yea! Bama!”  She doesn’t say many things yet, but she knows Barack Obama!

Malia told her daddy “It was a good speech.”  And it was.  I had to explain “happy crying” to the girls.

I felt such a sense of relief when Biden was sworn in…like there’s no way anything bad can happen now, b/c Cheney can’t take over anymore.

“Bama!”  the cry rising from a toddler.  America is mine again, and my gift to my children.

Jesus Fucking Christ!  Chris Matthews is being his smarmy self over Michelle Obama. “Young vibrant first lady”  How the hell can MSNBC keep shoving him in our face?

Mr. President, you certainly have your work cut out for you…but feel free to delegate some of it to me. Getting my country back, making it strong and worthy again, is a job I’ll happily take on.

I liked everything but the poetry.

Today is a good day.

I feel so relieved now that Bush and Cheney are gone.

The address almost made me cry at work :(

Oops, hit enter too soon.

It’s just such a huge relief to know that the Bush-era is finally over.  Apparently, this is what hope feels like.  Now we just need to get rid of Harper up here… not that he’s capable of causing anywhere near so much real damage on a global level.

Absolutely. One of the biggest emotions of the day is that relief.

Damn, I wish I didn’t have to teach this afternoon.

I lucked out and had vacation time.

We had a couple of people take the day off, but we all spontaneously gathered in the office kitchen at 9 am to watch the speech.

It’s nice living in a blue part of a blue state sometimes.  wink

I am thrilled by how much people seem to like President Obama.  (hey!  I can say that now!  President Obama!  President OBAMA!11!!111!)  I mean, he’s an intellectual and all, and even so, people don’t seem to hold it against him.  And I would sooo much rather have a beer with him than with any other politician I can think of.

Yeah, my preschooler missed school today b/c I wasn’t missing the inauguration, DVR or no.  The boy went.  I sure hope they pulled them out and let them watch the telly.

What was with Chief Justice Roberts muffing the oath?  Was he trying to get wiggle room to say Obama wasn’t really the President b/c he didn’t take the official oath b/c “faithfully” was in the wrong place? That was a weird moment.

The oath of office is not constitutionally required Caren.  Obama was president as of Noon.

Comment #13: Ms Kate  on  01/20  at  04:30 PM

He messed up the oath, he’s not really president!

Comment #14: Sirkowski  on  01/20  at  04:30 PM

Roberts decided to go without notes, sayeth NBC.

Hahahahaha dick, sayeth Auguste.

Comment #15: Auguste  on  01/20  at  04:40 PM

Roberts Rules of Order?  Nawww.

Sayeth the constitution: oath not necessary - Obama president as of Noon in DC.

Comment #16: Ms Kate  on  01/20  at  05:09 PM

What people have been forgetting is that the 20th Amendment supersedes the oath requirement written into the Constitution.  So trying to argue that Obama isn’t really President because of Article 2, Section 1 just points out that the person speaking doesn’t understand how the frickin’ Constitution and the amendment process works.  It would be like arguing that Obama’s election should be voided because women voted even though it doesn’t say they can in the body of the Constitution.

Even if Roberts was trying to embarrass Obama, he only succeeded in making himself look like an ass.  I mean, Jesus, I could probably recite the oath from memory, and I’m a film school graduate!

My tin-foil hat says otherwise.
- I do!

Comment #18: Sirkowski  on  01/20  at  05:33 PM

Roberts was nervous and understandably so. Not only is it his first time giving the oath, but it’s a very historic occasion and he was jittery. I don’t blame him.

Comment #19: Ben D.  on  01/20  at  06:03 PM

Before Obama walked on stage, I thought he looked like a groom headed for the alter - something about the way he figeted and seemed nervous and then put on his game face and got on with it.

When they played “Hail to the Chief” for BHO for the first time I wept like a baby.
