It’s Not The Islam, It’s The Believing In Allah

imageColonel Bud Day, who you may remember from being a Swift Boater and absolutely nothing else ever, decides to talk about the war on terror:

The Muslims have said either we kneel or they’re going to kill us… I don’t intend to kneel and I don’t advocate to anybody that we kneel, and John doesn’t advocate to anybody that we kneel.

May I recommend kneepads?  I’m sure you’ll find some on the Straight Talk Express.

I thought that we’d understood several years back that the War on Terror is not, in fact, a War on Islam, particularly prescient in light of the fact that unofficial counts of Muslims in the world put their numbers somewhere north of eleventy bajillion and the numbers of the strong-kneed Americans at decidedly less than that.  If at some point the two groups do decide to go to full out war with each other, I do not hesitate to say that the collected might of Islam will fuck the Bud Day Brigade’s shit up.

I’m also not particularly sure why Bud Day wants to go to war with the entire faith - does he envision himself as Paul Redeker from World War Z, with a binder full of plans of how to address the Islamic menace, leaving pockets of well-stocked sacrificial lambs to head them off while he rebuilds on the Western frontier?

Uh….... don’t Christians kneel in church?

Comment #1: Sirkowski  on  07/18  at  02:30 PM

Not any more, Sirkowski. Kneeling anywhere offers the disgusting concept that freedom-loving Americans would submit to the will of an omnipotent deity, rather than properly offering their fealty to George W. Bush or John McCain. Who do you want to worship—some fruity Middle-Eastern “god” or a manly, manly Republican man?

Because, as a true believer, he’s convinced that Yahweh will step in on his side in that war, Old-Testament-style, and wipe the infidels from the face of the earth. It’s all right there in Revelation. Lake of Fire and all that shit.

Think Seymour Skinner on the PA system.

Yes.

Any Arabic-speaking Christian will tell you that they bend the knee to Allah and his only begotten son, Yasu….

I had a Bud Day and it TASTED TERRIBLE.

Even more basic I think is the Reichwing need to always be engaged in a Titanic Struggle Of Good and Evil!, a Fundamental Clash Of Civilizations Whose Values Are Completely Incompatible!, an Epic Battle For The Future Of Earth Where The Stakes Couldn’t Be Higher!!!

Since we stopped our “titanic struggle” with the Soviet Union, we’ve been looking for a “clash of civilizations” with something or somebody else, and Islam looks good to a lot of wingnuts…

Comment #8: MikeEss  on  07/18  at  04:29 PM

I think he imagines he’ll be more like Todd Waino, gallantly standing above liberated New York (“The Hero City!!!!”) as the last of the eval teh moslems are finally driven from American soil.

Wait: doesn’t the latter usually involve kneeling in front of the manly, manly Republican man? Or is the proper position to offer fealty is bent over and holding the ankles?

Comment #10: Dorothy  on  07/18  at  04:53 PM

People like this need to organize their lives around some external, ever-present enemy.

It was a tough day for Mr. Day when the wall feel and the Soviet Union collapsed, I’m sure. Of course shortly after The Clintons became his omnipotent enemy, but a domestic politician makes a poor substitute for a foreign enemy.

So after 9/11, the Muslims replace the Soviets for Mr. Day and his ilk.

Of course, no Muslim country is a continental superpower with the worlds second largest economy, a million plus man military, 3,000 some odd nuclear warheads hitched to ICBMs that can be targeted to and fired at anywhere on earth on a moments notice, nor do they have some dozen odd nations as captive satellites. But hey, small detail right?

3 cheers for the WWZ ref. :D

You don’t kneel to W. You prostrate yourself, like people used to do for bishops and cardinals.

Comment #13: paul  on  07/18  at  10:12 PM

Somebody needs to take Bud Day’s copy of “Red Dawn” away from him before he hurts somebody.

Comment #14: hbsweet, empress of ice cream  on  07/19  at  12:12 AM

He isn’t Redeker. Redeker, while evil as fuck, was fundamentally pragmatist. If kneeling would save everyone, he would do it.

No, Day sees himself as Rorschach. “No. Not even in the face of Armageddon. Never compromise. “

Comment #15: karpad  on  07/19  at  04:31 AM

Don’t worry, they won’t kill you. They’ll go after the real men like Bud Day. They laugh at you since dhimmis you all are.

Way to show respect to the most decorated US Veteran alive today!

I mean, come on… “I’m also not particularly sure why Bud Day wants to go to war with the entire faith”

Are you serious?  Bad terminology to be sure, but do you really believe that that’s what he is saying?  I’m guessing you don’t, but it’s a chance to slam McCain, so it’s excusable.  Although the “War on Terror” doesn’t include all Muslims, virtually all the terrorist we are fighting ARE Muslim, so I can see how an off the cuff remark can result in some bad use of words.

One more thing:  Bud Day wasn’t a member of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.  In fact, he disagreed with the tactic of questioning John Kerry’s medals.  He was, however, part of a documentary called “Stolen Honor” which criticized Kerry’s committee remarks about war crimes, atrocities, etc carried out by US troops.  The group from the documentary and the Swift Boat Vets did eventually join together later, though, and formed “Swift Vets and POWs for Truth”
