Last Day at the LA Times

That was fun!  The last day, Katha and I talk about movies about child-bearing and how boring it is to cram women into such traditional roles.

I don’t normally gush, but I’m gonna gush.

Today’s was the best one yet! And that’s saying a hell of a lot.  My favorite quotes:

“But both movies have huge plot flaws that stem directly from the need to squeeze their characters into the Hollywood-mandated ending in which you have the baby and take on the man who got you pregnant.”

Yes.  I actually did that because I thought it was Teh Right Thing To Do.  Guess what?  It’s not, not on that basis.  If it is the right thing to do (remain pregnant and/or stay with that man), there’s a hell of a lot more to the “rightness” than that.  Thank you for putting your finger on what has bothered me so much about Juno and Knocked Up.

“If you just looked at the magazine stand, for example, you’d think the most important facts about a woman — any woman — are her love life, her children, her looks and her addictions.”

It’s amazing that MORE men don’t think we’re entirely one-dimensional and that dimension consists of our (a) vagina and (b) uterus.
