Live B.S. session

Pandagon

My friend Shannon McCormick has a weekly improv theater-thingie going at the Salvage Vanguard Theater here in Austin.  Tonight, they’re adding a show called “Couching Out”, and the first guests for this experimental new show are myself and Lars Nilsen, who curates Weird Wednesdays at the Alamo Drafthouse.  You can get the address here.  It’s 10:30 tonight, and it’s $10 to get in.  Because there’s money on the line, I promise to wear cute shoes, due to the fact that everyone likes to see cute shoes.

Seriously, it should be entertaining.  Shannon and his co-host Buzz Moran have promised that Lars and I will be quizzed on trivia about cult movies and politics, but not necessarily based on our subject of expertise.  Other suggested topics of conversation include trade theory, 70s and 80s rock music, and whether or not it’s worth $625 to buy the gold badge to SXSW music this year.  (I have one for film and interactive, but you have to buy the music one separately.)  Here’s the theater’s website for more information.

Happy Birthday to Tom Waits.  I guess he’s 59.  The Website says the Tom Waits thing is tomorrow, the 7th from 6-9 though.  So is yours tonight, or after the Tom Waits party?  Unless I have the days confused, of course.

Whoops, read it wrong.  I’ll fix.

Neat!  ...Never been on that side of Austin.  I always thought you were an east-coast sort.

Texan born and bred.  That side of Austin is one of the best parts.  smile

I’ve only been there for the Game dev conference.  It’s a nice town, I like the bar/clubs and coffee shops; very comfortable college setting.

Out here (CA Bay area) property is too spendy to have businesses like that.

I used to live three blocks down the road from there, towards campus. Shitty little apartment, but that’s such a great neighborhood.

...Which leads me to the next thing I think is important; making sure it’s more prifitable for places to be used than left empty.  I live in one of the most expensive places to live, and yet… Half or more of our storefronts are empty; we have more bedrooms than people in this county and yet I live in an apartment complex filled with people living two to three per bedroom.

It just seems like something is seriously wrong.

Hope you will do a follow-up post about the evening.
Improv rocks!  Some would say it’s a way of life ~
Kudos to McCormick & Co. for experimenting with “Couching Out”

Sounds cool; wish I could see it.

I’m also seeing a google ad about UNBORN CHILDREN DISAPPEARING AT AN ALARMING RATE and STOPPING ABORTION ON DEMAND here. I guess that’s actually not a bad thing, since those paying for the ad are wasting money on a site frequented by people who are largely strongly pro-choice.

A Weird Wednesday/Pandagon mashup?  I miss Austin so goddamn much.

:O)

10$ is well worth it.

Oh, dear Gaia, our hostess has given in to sexism for the almighty dollar!  wink

So, what this means is: you may be big on the internet, and you’re a cult hero in meatspace as well.

Which makes her differ from any other woman living under a patriarchy, in what way, Dana?

Donna:  Didn’t you notice the smiley?

In Amanda’s book, she has an entire (very short) chapter on feminist footwear, and concluded that nothing, other than some sort of out-of-business brand of shoe, is acceptable feminist footwear, including going barefoot.

SVT is always worth your time and money. Much of the Austin arts/music scene is self-congratulatory hype. SVT isn’t. Go if you can.
