McCain Is On The Verge Of Failure

John McCain is pulling out of Michigan.

McCain can win the election without Michigan, of course…but the fact that he’s essentially retreated into a defensive crouch, hoping to just hold on to Bush’s electoral majority without building upon it, is a real problem for him.  Looking at the toss-up map, Obama is 11 electoral votes away from a victory today.  Assuming that Obama carries Minnesota (which, if McCain is pulling out of Michigan, Minnesota’s not far behind), if Obama can win any state out of NH, VA, NC, PA, OH, FL, MO, IN or NV, he wins.

It’s about managing expectations, and about fieldwork from here on in.  And if you can toss in some change, that’ll probably help, too.

Just donated $200. My spending money budget will be bled dry until Election Day, but it will be worth it.

I think he pulls out of PA next. He’s been consistently behind there by substantial margins, despite what Chris Matthews says about old white people in Scranton or whatever.

October is the month of surprises!

Don’t bet the farm on what it looks like now.

Michigan can still get pregnant - you’d think Palin would warn him.

WHOOP!  WHOOP!  Abandon campaign!  She’s goin’ down!  Hockey moms and POWs first!

The media is turning McCain into a Final Fantasy boss.  We won the fight like half an hour ago, how many fucking FMVs are they gonna make us watch before he’s actually beaten?

sephirothismybishie that’s the best analysis of this election I’ve heard all year.

So how are we going to afford the proper party when Obama wins?

October is the month of surprises!

Yes, that Bill Ayers story that the right wing has been trying to get traction on for the past 6 months will finally, magically burst onto the scene now that Stanley Kurtz has closely examined the files at the University of Chicago and found ...

Oh, wait, Kurtz found nothing.  Well, I’m sure the Photoshoppers are working overtime to somehow get present-day Obama and 1960s-era Ayers into the same photo, some way, some how.

Either that, or Rev. Wright will be brought up yet again.  Because everyone who’s been living in a cave for the past year hasn’t heard about Wright yet, and those cave-dwelling voters are going to be decisive in this election.

He’s not pulling out, he’s suspending until they can get the crisis with the Detroit Lions solved.

They bring up Wright, we bring up the snake-charmer who blessed Palin and question her about the Anti-Christ and End Times.  And how wives should be submissive to their husbands and how Todd fits into all this.

Michigan can still get pregnant
This reminds me of The Daily Show animation during the primaries involving the maps of MI and FL.
(watch out for the UP, John)

Wright is old and boring now.

His middle name, Hussein, sounds, dare I say, mainstream at this point since it has been repeated ad nauseum . It sounds downright American, almost. One of the many weird things that has happened in this election.

Bill Ayers doesn’t look scary.

Rezko is a snoozefest.

Well, it’s certainly going to get a lot uglier over the next few weeks, especially if tonight’s debate doesn’t change the dynamic.

So ... what’s the Palin Drinking Game.

Repeat repeat = swig and repeat
Thanks but no thanks = entire bottle

I don’t know, but I know I’ll be drinking Dogfish Head—good, Delaware beer.

Poor Michigan. It keeps getting dissed this year.

It makes me weep into my Vernors, it does.

I thought he was jetting to Marquette to negotiate the bailout of bowhunters.

No concidence, of course, that there’s also a state prison there.

Anecdotal evidence about MN:

My whole family lives in the Twin Cities and we were just discussing a week ago how NONE of us had seen ONE SINGLE McCain bumper sticker.  It has been a week now and I have finally seen them popping up.  I have now seen 3 bumper stickers and 2 lawn signs in the entire campaign season so far.  I have seen literally hundreds of each for Obama.  I know that this reflects entusiasm more than vote totals but it has to be a good sign.

Even when I was up in Bimidji (a much redder part opf the state) I saw a pretty good advantage for Obama in terms of signage.

If MN goes for McCain I would be shocked.

Rezko is a snoozefest.

Rezko gets a lot more interesting once you know that Karl Rove tried to fire Patrick Fitzgerald on Rezko’s behalf.  Rezko’s tied into corruption among Republicans as well as Democrats all over Illinois, including former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert.

I’m guessing that there aren’t a lot of anti-Obama commercials using Rezko running in Illinois, because people in Illinois are a lot more aware of who Rezko is and who’s tied to him.  It’s only people outside of the state who can be persuaded that there’s something “funny” about Obama’s ties with him.

Comment #24: Mnemosyne  on  10/02  at  07:22 PM

Already threw some dough his way, and planning on voting for him tomorrow or saturday.

John McCain is pulling out of Michigan.  A frustrated Michigan could not be reached for comment.

h/t Chevy Chase on Weekend Update.

Comment #26: seeker6079  on  10/02  at  07:29 PM

Darn right nothing here in Chicago about Rezko. The biggest tie Obama has to Rezko is buying a thin strip of land next door from him at fair market price. Everything else seems to just be trying to get generic dirt to stick, and locally, Obama seems a hell of a lot cleaner than most of our politicians.
