Michele Bachmann: Something Something Fucking Crazy

Our Lady Of The Politbama has again said something fucking crazy:

[T]he bill orders that these clinics protect patient privacy and student records. What does that mean? It means that parents will never know what kind of counsel and treatment that their children are receiving. And as a matter of fact, the bill goes on to say what’s going to go on — comprehensive primary health services, physicals, treatment of minor acute medical conditions, referrals to follow-up for specialty care — is that abortion? Does that mean that someone’s 13-year-old daughter could walk into a sex clinic, have a pregnancy test done, be taken away to the local Planned Parenthood abortion clinic, have their abortion, be back and go home on the school bus that night? Mom and Dad are never the wiser.

First: damn those sex clinics with their pregnancy tests.  I hate them.  That’s right, I hate their stupid sexy sex clinic faces.  Always offering up sex-related sexiness to 13-year-olds.  Wait, are we talking about sex clinics or CVS?  I hate both!

There’s an ironclad rule about uber-conservative firebrands talking about legislation.  The rule is that they have no fucking clue what they’re talking about.  Seriously, if the Constitution had been written in view of Glenn Beck, Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin, you’d be getting post messages about how this “Article III” is establishing a “supreme Court” which will determine if we can even have children or worship our very gods.  And then Thomas Jefferson would sob into his rewritten Bible, wondering if he’d ever be able to have a political career after he got back from swishy France.

This is what the legislation actually says:

“The money could also be used to provide ‘mental health assessments, crisis interventions, counseling, treatment and referral to a continuum of services including emergency psychiatric care, community support programs, inpatient care and outpatient care.’ The clinics would have the option to provide ‘oral health, social and age-appropriate health education services including nutritional counseling.’

“Clinics getting federal dollars must act in accordance with federal, state and local law, according to the bills. For example, clinics in Louisiana are not even allowed to counsel students on abortion, according to the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals.”

To be fair, despite the fact that Michele Bachmann directly contradicts the plain meaning of the law as written, she did not litter on the floor of Congress, unlike Barney Frank, who left an entire stack of Out Magazine on his desk, with inserts all over the floor.  And then, MacGyver style, Nancy Pelosi folded them into an abortion machine.  Crafty devils, us Democrats.

But Rep Grayson is being mean when he’s been grandstanding on the truth.  Mrs. Pelosi ... he’s being meaaannnnn!

It’s all demagoguery.  If you told the people in Louisiana that their little angels would be free of any form of non-abstinence education, and that the giant bags of money the federal government was handing out to the poor red states from the rich blue states could be spent on whatever bullshit boondoggle permitted by the ridiculously lax federal rules, who the hell would vote for Republicans?

Bachmann’s entire schtick revolves around the phantom menace she is bravely fighting against.  If her constituency knew what kind of corrupt, feckless losers the Democrats were, they’d have nothing to be afraid of.  If they knew what kind of sweetheart deals you get by allowing the Democrats to blindly spend millions of dollars on your district on whatever crazy superstition you want to enact as law, they’d be lining up for the gravy train.

I mean, who in his right mind shows up with guns to debate over how to provide you with affordable, effective health care?  Crazy is the only thing that keeps conservatives in the game.

There are days when I wonder if Michelle Bachmann is a character from Arrested Development. Then I remember that she’s a Congessperson, and that’s when I start drinking again.

Obviously you think only the sane should have representation on Congress, you elitist!

Republicans know that they don’t have to tell the truth or speak about any issue with any degree of accuracy or honesty because the media will pick it up, it will get further distorted and all anyone will remember is “Obama wants 13 year olds to get abortions during recess!”

I’m really starting to hate the world.  Or at least substantial parts of it.

Comment #5: BadKitty  on  10/01  at  06:38 PM

Comments so far claim Bachmann is lying and grandstanding, but I think Jesse has it right.

She sincerely believes this shit.  And that’s so much worse than lying to pander to the base.

Comment #6: Ferox  on  10/01  at  06:44 PM

So telling the kids to eat their vegetables, drink their milk (nutritional counseling) and brush their teeth(oral health)=spiriting them away for abortions?

Batshittery.

And 13 year olds don’t get recess. They just endure gym class.

Sex Clinic.

Wasn’t that a Spinal Tap song?

Comment #8: Mighty Ponygirl  on  10/01  at  06:56 PM

You could spend a lifetime searching the swingers clubs and bathhouses of the world and never find anyone as sex-obsessed as Michelle Bachmann.

Sex Clinic.

Wasn’t that a Spinal Tap song?

That was “Sex Farm”, actually.

And for the love of Cthulhu, don’t tell Bachmann about those.

Seriously Min. WTF!!!!  Why do you vote this nutbag in?!!

[T]he bill orders that these clinics protect patient privacy and student records. What does that mean? It means that parents will never know what kind of counsel and treatment that their children are receiving.

Well, it almost certainly dosn’t mean that.  Generally speaking, confidentiality rules don’t prevent parents from accessing theri minor childrens’ records, because confidentiality is waivable, and parents are empowered to waive rights like confidentiality for minors.  You’d have to have either quite explicit language in the statute barring parental access to records, or a situation in which the parent very clearly was not making a decision based on the child’s best interests (“Daddy raped me!”  “Well, then, he’s not seeing these records.”)

Didn’t Molly Ivins say that if they took all the fools out that it wouldn’t be a representative body?  Applies to the US Congress as well as the Texas legislature.

Comment #13: NobleExperiments  on  10/01  at  07:53 PM

Bachmann is, quite simply, a rotten human being.  Those of us who’ve been watching since her days in the MN Senate are quite well aware of this.

I’d be willing to say the same of those who vote for her. Rotten human beings.

Comment #14: MAJeff, the God of Biscuits  on  10/01  at  08:00 PM

I don’t think that “believe” is a word that one should use for people like Bachman. That implies that the quality of being a fact (or not) is a category that has some interest for her.

Comment #15: paul  on  10/01  at  10:24 PM

Dana, this seems to be your territory. What say you? Is Bachmann a modern prophettess of the pro-life movement?

Comment #16: Tyro  on  10/02  at  12:43 AM

Can we get a sex clinic to open up in Raleigh? That sounds like fun…

Comment #17: Jeff  on  10/02  at  10:49 AM

That was “Sex Farm”, actually.

And for the love of Cthulhu, don’t tell Bachmann about those.

“I keep telling you, I just grow sorghum here.”
“And where are the hookers?”
“Round back.”

“Whoops.”

Abortion Machine would be a great name for a band.

Comment #19: pitbullgirl65  on  10/02  at  11:08 AM

Teen Abortion Machine would be even better.

Comment #20: Ms Kate  on  10/02  at  11:12 AM

What’s a sex clinic and why is it separated from the abortion clinic?

Comment #21: Blitzgal  on  10/02  at  01:50 PM

the truly surprising thing would be if rep. bachman didn’t say something batshit crazy; that would be a “man bites dog” moment. and yet, the voters in her district elected her, so i must assume she truly represents them.

that’s the really disturbing thing about her.

Comment #22: cpinva  on  10/02  at  02:06 PM

Come on! The bill provides for education about oral health! What do you think that means!?!?!
