More Of Blackazoid’s “Change”

imageOverly presumptuous negro faux-president Barack Hussein Obama just went off his rocker (or is that rapper?), politely asking that the First Family of Funk be allowed to take up temporary residence in the Blair House, the guest house of the President.  Abe Greenwald:

We just endured an election in which every gesture was aggravated into a scandal and, going forward, we’re best off not reading too much into each iota of non-policy news. But this strikes me as remarkably obnoxious on Obama’s part. The Left-wing media has actually been throwing around the idea of an early start to Obama’s presidency for a few weeks now. But as bad as it is to hear Chris Matthews suggest Obama preempt George W. Bush, it’s easily dismissed as the ravings of an unseriousness sycophant. That the President-elect himself couldn’t quite bear to respect the process of the transition is bizarre.

Obama aides claim that the request to move in “earlier than usual” was made so that the Obama girls could begin class with their new classmates on January 5. But there’s nothing so unusual about the children of presidents having to switch schools and adjust. George W. Bush and Bill Clinton both had school-aged daughters when they were sworn in.

From every report, President Bush has been extremely accommodating in helping Obama transition, and that’s as it should be. But it’s nice to know that at least someone doesn’t believe that Barack Obama is the one for whom rules do not apply.

Wizbang believes that the Blackazoid Army is going to start some sort of race riot over this, and that the only reason Obama is even asking for the space in the Blair House is because he wants to give Michelle a couple weeks’ practice turning it into a miniature version of the Black House.

Now, first, the Blair House is a guest house.  For guests.  But why is Barack Obama bothering the President of the Economy and Wars with his children’s schooling, like some mere constituent?  Because incoming presidents typically get to stay there five days before Inauguration anyway.  (The house, incidentally, is reserved for parties for outgoing Bush Administration officials.)

The Obamas were told that Blair House, where incoming presidents usually stay in the five days before Inauguration Day, is booked in early January, a spokesperson to the Obama transition said. “We explored the idea so that the girls could start school on schedule,’ the spokesperson said. “But, there were previously scheduled events and guests that couldn’t be displaced.”

So, we can take this one of two ways: either every President is a presumptuous race-baiting rabble-rouser who demands such accommodation out of a sense of radical ethnic entitlement (I’m looking at you, Coolidge), or Barack Obama is asking for a slight extension of a traditional courtesy in order to make things easier on his young children.

Oh, well, I can’t wait for this to be the opening anecdote in every conservative hit piece on Obama’s first term in two years:  “Just two weeks before Christmas, the Messiah demanded his own version of the modest inn in Bethlehem: a palatial space at the exclusive Blair Inn for the princesses of the Obama Administration, Sasha and Malia.  Rebuffed by an administration that still had the busy work of running the country ahead of it, Obama took to the liberal media in yet another one of his petty grievance-airing dramas.”  You know, maybe I could just continue this, publish it early, and use the resulting Regnery money to pay off my law school loans…something to think about, at least.  And by “think about”, I mean “I’m already contacting the publisher”.

Good lord, Bush is going to move into a Dallas neighborhood that barred black neighbors up until 2000.  Surely he can forbear for a whole month until he’s safely ensconced in his new neighborhood.

Comment #1: Amanda Marcotte  on  12/13  at  01:05 PM

The “previously scheduled events” should be held somewhere else. They can book a party in hundreds of different places - and it would be just fine. Too bad the Bush admin couldn’t think of doing this small courtesy.

Comment #2: happyfungirl  on  12/13  at  01:05 PM

The space is normally used 5 days before the inauguration by the President-Elect and his family, and it will be.  Relying on this custom, the White House booked the space for other purposes until that date.  Neither the request nor its denial was unreasonable.  Either the girls will start school a week later or the Secret Service will be guarding the girls at a big-ass hotel suite on Connecticut Avenue instead of Blair House or the Obama home in Chicago.

Meanwhile, the GOP just got away with telling 12 million Americans directly or indirectly depending on the U.S. domestic auto industry in Midwest blue and purple states and elsewhere to kneel down and taste its asshole.

Comment #3: Bruce  on  12/13  at  01:16 PM

What Bruce said.

A distraction.

Comment #4: seeker6079  on  12/13  at  01:25 PM

OMFG!  I can’t believe B. HUSSEIN would have the audacity, the unmitigated gall to politely ask if he could occupy Blair House for a couple extra weeks!

And it’s even worse!  As “Mike G in Corvallis” said, “At this point Barack Obama isn’t even the “president-elect”! In three more days, when the Electoral College votes, he will be (barring a few hundred faithless electors), but for now he’s at best the “president-apparent” or the “president-presumptive.” Or considering the way he and his minions have been actinv, perhaps we should say “president-presumptuous” …”

Can the President Apparent be impeached?  What’s Ken Starr doing these days?...

Comment #5: MikeEss  on  12/13  at  01:25 PM

Maybe this is great and horrible insult to the President-elect, maybe it’s just a tempest in a teapot.  But I guess I’m just not seeing how Blair House is related to schooling continuity for the Obama daughters.  Are we to assume that in order for the girls to start classes on Jan 5, they must reside in Blair House and nowhere else?

Comment #6: Beatrice  on  12/13  at  01:35 PM

Obama aides claim that the request to move in “earlier than usual” was made so that the Obama girls could begin class

That’s what they “CLAIM” but who knows what the real truthy truth is?

Comment #7: Notorious P.A.T.  on  12/13  at  01:41 PM

“Are we to assume that in order for the girls to start classes on Jan 5, they must reside in Blair House and nowhere else? “

The way I read it is, Obama was scheduled to move into this house anyway.  Why should he have to move in to one place for a few days, then move into this guest house, THEN move in to the White House?

Comment #8: Notorious P.A.T.  on  12/13  at  01:43 PM

Being denied is just another of those symbolic GOP gestures that convey the message that Obama’s presidency will be considered no more legitimate than Clinton’s.

I know I’ve said this before, but I still see Jeb running in 2012 and being packaged (like his idiot brother in 2000) as Jesus coming in to clean out the temple.  This just fits into the narrative being prepared…

Comment #9: MikeEss  on  12/13  at  01:50 PM

Exactly P.A.T.  Once you’ve moved kids, you know how excruciating it is.  The Obama’s may have their own team of hundreds and will have to do very little work packing, moving, and unpacking, but even these will kids will be discombobulated & excited by the tempest.  This was just asking for one less step.

If I was them, I’d eff tradition and stay in one residence up to inauguration and skip the Blair House.

Comment #10: idiosynchronic  on  12/13  at  01:55 PM

Think, too, of security. Lots easier at the Blair House, and less disruptive of the neighborhood.

Comment #11: gwangung  on  12/13  at  02:09 PM

Speaking of storm-wrack’d kettles, has anyone seen this piece of fishwrap?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081213/ap_on_go_pr_wh/obama_illinois_governor

The lead is “Republicans criticize Obama aides’ silence,” and anyone glancing at the article might think “Oh no!  Obama’s not following through on his promise of transparency!”

Then you read it, and you realize that a) everyone involved seems to be saying that no-one on his staff did anything wrong, and b) they’re being careful as one should expect people to be around a scandal of this putridness and trying not to get any of it on them.  Later on the in article it replays in miniature, talking about Rahm Emmanuel getting “testy” with the media- which is then said to consist of “refusing an interview in the middle of his children’s dance recital” and “after letting a reporter that’s been hanging outside of his house use their restroom, complaining that his address was published and now he’s received death threats.”

After the non-disclosure nonsense of this administration, you’d think people might have a sense of perspective on these things.

Comment #12: Thomas  on  12/13  at  02:17 PM

The issue here isn’t that the house is already reserved.

The issue here is that Obama made a polite request that was in no way out of line, got rebuffed because it was already taken, and is now being assailed as entitled and presumptuous, demanding a handout and some sort of extraconstitutional assumption of early power because he wants to not have to move three times in three weeks.

Comment #13: Jesse Taylor  on  12/13  at  02:18 PM

Here’s two other aspects:
Not sure about DC, but in my area, it’s easier for the school and the teachers if new kids start at the break rather than late January.

Second, who pays for the moves? I suspect it’s us, the taxpayer. Obama could just be trying to consolidate two moves into one, to save the extra cost.

Lessee, better for the kids, better for the teachers, less expensive, less troublesome, more efficient—yeah, I can see why the Bush Administration would be violently opposed to it.

Comment #14: Dorothy  on  12/13  at  02:19 PM

Well, Bush has the country to run into the ground, doesn’t he? He doesn’t have time to be bothering about stupid shit, such as the man his operatives are probably going to have assassinated anyway.

The Repubs didn’t even bother trying to conceal their union-busting hardon, either. Just in time for Xmas! Fuckers.

Comment #15: ginmar  on  12/13  at  02:24 PM

Wow:

We just endured an election in which every gesture was aggravated into a scandal and, going forward, we’re best off not reading too much into each iota of non-policy news.

Awesome! Cool! Hey, thanks for keeping a sense of perspective on this whole -

But this strikes me as remarkably obnoxious on Obama’s part.

Oh. So, by “going forward,” you meant “at some point in the future which I purposely refuse to define so that you won’t be able to hold me to anything when it never comes.” Gotcha.

Are we to assume that in order for the girls to start classes on Jan 5, they must reside in Blair House and nowhere else?

1) I know it’s hard to imagine after the past eight years, but not every President is worth eleventy-billion dollars of oil/government handout/terrorist money. I’m not saying he literally can’t afford a DC hotel for three weeks, but you know ...

2) If your suggestion is for him not to stay in Blair House at all, just go from somewhere else straight to the White House, just imagine Abe Greenwald’s reaction to THAT. “We shouldn’t read too much into these non-policy things, but look at the uppity n****r who doesn’t want to stay where all the incoming presidents stay!”

Comment #16: Rick Massimo  on  12/13  at  02:35 PM

Bush just doesn’t want to admit that like every other homeowner in Washington, D.C., he’s renting out the house for Inauguration week to out-of-towners for a couple grand a night.

Comment #17: August J. Pollak  on  12/13  at  02:51 PM

Oh, sure - cash in on the one affirmative action programme the wingnuts really really endorse…

Comment #18: Phoenician in a time of Romans  on  12/13  at  03:48 PM

Oh, fer chrissakes.

There was nothing wrong with the Obamas asking if they could move in early to minimize the disruption for their girls.  There was also nothing wrong with the White House saying, “Sorry, it’s already been booked.”  Question asked, question answered, no big deal.

They’re scraping the bottom of the barrel, and he hasn’t even been sworn in yet.  What next—a public temper tantrum by Sasha means that Iran will stop negotiating with us because they can see that Obama can’t even control an 8-year-old?

Comment #19: Mnemosyne  on  12/13  at  04:34 PM

They’re having ten days of parties? To celebrate what, the fact that they made it through 8 years of pillaging the country without going to jail?

Comment #20: paul  on  12/13  at  04:35 PM

Aw, the Obamas can just grab a hotel room. It’s not like they have security concerns or anything.

(And if they did commandeer the floor of a hotel—which would be the only way to ensure security—this Greenwald would scream about the waste of the taxpayers’ hard-earned money.)

Comment #21: Bitter Scribe  on  12/13  at  05:08 PM

Obviously they’re celebrating the end of the period when Bush had to pretend he was on the wagon.

Comment #22: befuggled  on  12/13  at  05:12 PM

I can’t wait for the right wing blogs to get their underwear up their assholes when Obama does “presumptuous” things like signing bills into law and nominating judges.

Comment #23: Amanda Marcotte  on  12/13  at  05:28 PM

Compare and contrast:

Remember this? http://frum.nationalreview.com/post/?q=ZGUzMjU0Njc4NzljN2JhMGJmYzM2MTJhOWRhMTU4NTk= (I forgot how to embed links, sorry.)
In 2000 (note I said 2000, not January 2001), the Republicans bussed in their Rent-a-Mob to heckle Vice president Gore’s family, demanding they leave “Cheney’s house” before the election was even decided. And when Gore and his family spoke about this two years later (in response to a question), little Davie Frum attacked him for wanting to censor free speech. (Mentioning harassment that happened two years earlier is the same as censorship, didn’t you know.)

Comment #24: Ron  on  12/13  at  05:28 PM

Actually, Mr Ess, Barack Obama won’t be the president-elect even after December 15th.  The twelfth amendment specifies that

The President of the Senate shall, in the presence of the Senate and House of Representatives, open all the certificates and the votes shall then be counted;

The person having the greatest Number of votes for President, shall be the President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed;

This occurs during the first couple of days of the session of the incoming Congress, which means that, technically, Mr Obama will not be elected president until after the fifth of January,

Hey, if the place is already scheduled, then it’s already scheduled.  It’s not like President Bush is somehow forcing the Obamas to live in a Winebago in Fort Marcy Park!  Where did Mr Obama (and his family?) reside in Washington for the past four years, when he was a senator?

Comment #25: Dana  on  12/13  at  05:53 PM

During my several stays at Blair House (I’m a part time lobbyist for the dental floss industry and have thus met with President Cheney on Homeland Security issues), the only black faces I saw were the wait staff.  I suspect that the Obamas are going to have to bunk in with the employees of that establishment, which while not luxury suites are probably perfectly inhabitable.

Comment #26: Rugged in Montana  on  12/13  at  05:58 PM

I really can not wait until he takes office on the 20th…..then we get to see him walk on water, turn water into wine, heal all the sick people…..cast demons out…..what else??......oh yea….make the blind see again….feed the multitudes from just a few fish and pieces of bread…...I’m totally stoked and excited as hell!!!

Comment #27: cookie  on  12/13  at  07:39 PM

Dana:

Senator Obama lived in a small apt. His family resided in Chicago so the children could have a relatively normal life and Mrs. Obama could continue in her career. Sen. Obama commuted on the (typically three-day) weekends both to see his family and to remain closer to his constituency.

...well, why not.  After all, you thought Bush/Cheney were appointed by God to lead America out of the horrible evils of the Clinton Blowjob Regime.

Remember this?:  “It must be very strange to be President Bush. A man of extraordinary vision and brilliance approaching to genius, he can’t get anyone to notice. He is like a great painter or musician who is ahead of his time, and who unveils one masterpiece after another to a reception that, when not bored, is hostile.”—John Hinderaker, Power Line Blog, July 28, 2005.

Maybe Obama is God’s answer to our overwhelming needs in the wake of Bush’s “extraordinary vision and brilliance approaching to genius”...

Comment #29: MikeEss  on  12/13  at  07:58 PM

Hinderaker’s “genius” quote was the first thing I thought of, too. After eight years of that, cookie, I can’t believe even you take this “the one” “messiah” crap seriously.

Comment #30: befuggled  on  12/13  at  08:08 PM

So, um, the Obamas weren’t even supposed to ask if Blair House was available prior to the time they’re already scheduled to have it?  You agree with Greenwald that even making the query was so incredibly rude that it requires an entire column to deal with the outrage?

Note that it’s not liberals making a big deal of this—it’s the right wing screaming about how horrible and entitled and rude the Obamas were for even asking the question.

Seriously, if you guys can’t handle something this uncomplicated and straightforward, your heads are going to explode as soon as the first piece of legislation is passed.

Comment #31: Mnemosyne  on  12/13  at  10:07 PM

I don’t think Bush was rude, Obama was pretentious, or the girls will suffer immeasurably by having one more move in the next month.  It would be nice if something could be arranged, but I’m certain many people have a spare apartment in Washington.

I can only hope that whatever apartment Obama moves into for a week or so will be owned by someone who is either a part of the mainstream media, a labor union, someone who is rumored to frequent hookers, a donor to Obama’s campaign, someone with links to foreign governments, a longtime Democrat, a slumlord, someone who once shook Blogojevich’s hand, a person who knows a guy who once said something not un-nice about Che Guevara or Josef Stalin, someone gay, someone black, or George Clooney.  If some wingnut heads are going to explode, I at least want to see some collateral damage.

Comment #32: jon  on  12/13  at  11:18 PM

kook-a-dook, the “RAR OBAMESSIAH RARGAGHASD” meme didn’t work for you stupid fucks during the campaign, and it just reeks of tantrum-throwing immaturity now.  Shut the fuck up while the adults talk, you babbling troglodyte.

Comment #33: Blue Field Damian  on  12/14  at  12:38 AM

Can one of Obama’s first acts be to make the use of ‘transition’ as a verb illegal?  Please?

A friend of mine asked if she could get an early check-in at her hotel.  Should I contact Faux Noise?

Comment #34: Caveat  on  12/14  at  01:17 AM

Note that it is Obama’s aides who brought this to the attention of the press. As others have said, there was nothing wrong with asking, and nothing wrong with saying “sorry, no” - so why bring it up? To make the Bush people look bad, that’s why.

I’m surprised nobody has mentioned Nancy Reagan’s appalling suggestion that the Carters, including their daughter, ought to check into a hotel so she could get an early start on redecorating the White House.

Which probably gets to the heart of the issue.  Obama makes the others look bad, for not considering the effect of repeated moves during the school year on their school-aged children.  It is less disruptive for the kids to start their new school immediately after the winter break, but no president has thought of this before.  Or if they did think about it, it was just one more unfortunate sacrifice that the rest of the family makes for the sake of the man-of-the-family’s career, rather than something harmful a parent can do to a child, so that a responsible parent does what he can to limit the harm.

Sure, because it’s easy for the Secret Service to secure just any old apartment in any old district in Washington, D.C. for the first black president who has received death threats to the magnitude of kazillion.

The point of Blair House being that it’s not only been previously vetted, but the Secret Service would have already been setting up security for the Obamas.

But hey, it’s not like a bunch of wingnut parties shouldn’t have the securist place on earth (in case of librul riots) for their galas. Nope, it would be just too hard to find somewhere else in all Washington to party down with rightards.
