My Singular Friend

imageBetween shoving Bush into speaking on Labor Day, Cheney not showing up, indicted Senators not showing up, and several sitting Senators not showing up, who exactly is going to be at the Republican National Convention to nominate McCain?

It does strike me as a particularly useful way to separate McCain from the Republican Party - ensuring that none of them are there.  Perhaps he’ll accept in the town-hall style meeting he apparently adores so, among him and 75 of his dearest friends all sitting in an 18,000 seat arena.

It’s a particularly interesting dynamic - between the convicts, the soon-to-be-convicts, the extremists, the unpopular crowd, the people McCain’s pissed off, the fact that they’re in an Obama-friendly state and McCain’s persistent inability to draw a crowd, could McCain be the first major party nominee in American history to accept his party’s nomination to a round of polite clapping followed by an overloud “My fucking Blackberry’s broken!” ringing through the dome?

If McCain wants an exciting audience, he should give his acceptance speech at the next Hess company board meeting.

yeah, i imagine there will be far more protesters that convention goers. why exactly did the GOP pick minneapolis? i mean, not only is it an incredibly progressive city, but its centrally located geographically so its pretty easy for out of state activists to get there too. sometimes the stupid burns.

But just think! With the economy hitting the shitter, how disgusting is it that Obama is willing to have a large bash, wasting millions of dollars worth of oil, transporting all of those people?

Thank Mesus for John McCain, going for a more discrete and less extravagant convention… truly an inspiration to us all.

Any more no-showing RSVPs and he can hold the entire thing in a high school gym. Maybe with a fund-raising potluck supper, too. Pity Susie Collins is skipping; she is said to make a great green bean casserole…

Well, I mean—the GOP did have their last convention in Manhattan, you know where, like 95% of the population votes D.  And there were more demonstrators than convention goers there, what with there being like 100K demonstrators or something.

Good point, rowmyboat.
I wonder where they will shove the political prisoners this time.

rowmyboat, oh no, i totally get what youre saying. but the difference here is that nobody is actually attending this convention. at least in manhattan the GOP showed up. this time around theyre all staying home playing “risk”

So Vader isn’t showing up, but does Shrub still get a prime time spot?

How about Bob Dole?

Will that Georgia guy be speaking?  You know, Zell something.  And Lieberman?  Hey, they might have more dems at their convention than republicans.

I know we’ll have the last of the Teddy Roosevelt Republicans (Lincoln Chaffee) speaking at ours, and quite possibly Chuck Hagel, who is the last of the George Bush Sr. Republicans.

Guess who has the big tent now?
