Netroots Attack!

Blogging

Via Yglesias, much of the focus on this Politico piece is on Richard Cohen’s insistence that criticism equals totalitarianism.

But the far stranger part is the fact that in a three-page article, the person they trust most to embody the Netroots critique of the media is…Eric Alterman.  Now, I think Eric Alterman produces good stuff, and I think he does valuable work over at Media Matters.  But it’s awfully telling how when covering a mass movement constructed of non-elites firing at their oversensitive newsmasters, the person they trust most is the

former

Nation columnist with the old MSNBC blog.

Tellingly, there are also pretty much only three blogs in existence - Daily Kos, TPM and Huffington Post.  It’s a cold, cold world out here past where the internets end.

If TPM were the only blog around, we’d be in pretty good shape.

Alterman is still a Nation columnist, no?

Yes, Alterman still is a Nation columnist.  Most recent column at: http://www.thenation.com/doc/20080901/alterman

Well, you see, Alterman wrote a book, which makes him infinitely superior to all those other media critics who simply vent online. Don’t get me wrong—Alterman was the first blogger I read, and What Liberal Media? is a whole lot of awesome—but yeah, he’s not exactly the first name that comes to mind when thinking about the current political blogosphere.

Of the three true netroots blogs, TPM is the only one I read with any regularity, and that’s only about twice a week.  Huffpo and Kos I only read when linked by a blog I regularly read.  For the good stuff I tend to look to Obsidian Wings, The Sideshow, Pandagon, Eschaton, Shakesville, and some others I visit less frequently.

Isn’t that how Lenin and Hitler got their start: e-mail and comment criticism of douchebag columnist pundits?

Slippery slopes people.

TPM every day even though I frequently think there are issues with some of the opinions presented there.

Huffpo?  Please.

Kos is great for the folks who I like it.  I guess.  For me it’s like wading through a randomized white pages to find the one listing I want.

I’ve read my fair share of Alterman, and he does write some good stuff.  The only problem I have with him is that I suspect he may quite possibly be the most boring person alive in the world right now.

Seriously. When he’s feeling wild n crazy, I see him putting on a pair of non-khaki Dockers, slapping a Clapton cd in the stereo, and thinking about ordering red wine with dinner (but not actually doing it, because that would too crazy)

Anyway, Cohen is a self-absorbed ass.  His primary motivation is feeding his own narcissism. That anyone would dare disagree is something people like him simply cannot understand.

I’m in full agreement with Ezra—-McCain is going to go with Lieberman as the VP pick.

Well, your track record ain’t that great. Honeybuns. You aligned with Edwards who LOST and then was outed as an asshole of great proportions.

Birds of a feather….

The funny thing? Conservatives can say that they visit (and post on!) Freeperville, that Matt Drudge rules their world, than even Little Green Fuckwits is a place to visit, but Atrios and the Pandagoners say ‘fuck’, so they’re verboten.
