From St. Cloud, Florida—isn’t this the kind of shameless, tasteless shilling you expect from Republicans as their fortunes are in the dumpster? After milking the tragedy of 9/11 for years now, here it comes again when the party has zero to run on. (Raw Story):
Businessman Mike Meehan, who paid for the ad, says he’s “only trying to help Republicans.” The billboard also carries a link for Meehan’s website, TheRepublicanSong.com, at which he says, “I claim to be a man of God” and promotes his political song and video.
Meehan’s song, which appears to have racist overtones, begins, “The Democrat secular progressive move, political correctness is killing us too. They want to take the money from the hard working man, and give it to the lazy folks that don’t give a damn.”
Even Republicans have found the billboard “inappropriate,” and many residents want it to come down. “I’m thinking about the Twin Towers, all the families that were killed there,” one woman told local TV affliate WFTV.
Dems weren’t exactly at the helm when this occurred, and, as I recall, isn’t Osama still enjoying his freedom? Raw Story notes that over at Lucianne.com, one of the knuckledraggers there declared: ”People who refer to the terrorist attack as a tragedy are morons.”

All they’d have to do is bring it about 100-150 miles south and there would be an equally powerful reaction. Run that thing in Palm Beach, Broward or Dade county and the fire department might get there in time to save the structure. Or they might let it burn.
It took me a while to recognize the image as a pro-Republican ad. First, I tried to interpret the smoking towers as pollution (Please don’t vote for a Democrat, we want to keep killing you slowly!) Then after I corrected myself, the phrase “Republican Song” suggested “they’re singing the same old song”.
It truly has become impossible to overstate the depths to which some people will sink.
It’s an obvious thing to assume, drawing on the political alignment of NYC, that most the people whom died in that attack were NOT Republicans. I’m surprised that someone with so little taste and an RNC affiliation wouldn’t be glad to see New Yorkers burn. (What with any major city disaster being an example of divine wrath) Maybe the bigger issue to them was the destruction of two enormous phallic symbols instead the loss of innocent life.

I’m kind of with cookie on this a little bit (a LITTLE bit) - the terrorist attacks would had happened even if Gore was in office. Hell, unless a time-traveling Jonathan Hohensee was in office, the terrorist attacks would had happened.
They got warned and they ignored it - are we really fighting this again? We can’t say what would have happened under Clinton, except that when he tried to take a hard line on Bin Laden, the Republicans whined that it was a ‘wag the dog’ scenario, and nothing was going badly in Afghanistan to justify a cruise missile attack.

The first WTC attack was in 1993, jackass. It happened 5 weeks after Clinton’s inauguration. The 2001 attack happened 9 months after Bush was inaugurated. Are you arguing that Bush was so incompetent that he couldn’t get his administration organized almost a year after he officially took office?

Of course this was a fucking tragedy, but it wasn’t just an American tragedy. There’s no shortage of shameless people; can’t write about all of them. From what I’ve seen, though, the bloggers here at Pandagon do a really good job of criticizing both Republicans and Democrats when they feel that they need to be criticized. The fact that you haven’t seen Pam write about Charlie Rangel’s apartments doesn’t undo the fact that this blog has-- fairly recently-- published posts that seriously examined Obama’s commitment to civil rights for GLBT people, criticized a traditionally left-wing periodical’s choice of cover images, and debated whether liberal Christians are hypocritical for enjoying the privilege that comes with being a Christian in our culture. So the suggestion that the bloggers here only talk about Republican vice suggests that you either don’t read this blog, have inadequate reading comprehension skills, or are a dishonest person.

Yeah, Mnemo beat me to it, but cookie, the planners of the ‘93 bombing were caught by law enforcement, prosecuted and convicted in a public court of law. Upon sentencing, Clinton had every airport in the country up its security for about 6 months-->no more meetings at the gates, every laptop taken out of its bag and turned on, etc. as a precaution against retaliation for putting the guys in jail.
Clinton wanted to respond for the bombing of the Cole, but as the MSM and Congress were obsessed with the Clenis, it was called ‘wagging the dog’. Clinton’s administration warned W’s about Al Qaeda; W’s folks wanted to make China the enemy (though attacking Iraq was always the plan).
W had reports that Osama wanted to strike in the US and that they wanted to use planes. He told the man who brought the reports out to him that he’d covered his ass, then went back to cutting brush.
Bush left us WIDE OPEN for attack. And we’re still just as OPEN to attack, b/c instead of using law enforcement to find and prosecute terrorists (which WORKED) we started a war with Iraq that had NOTHING to do with 9-11, except using the country’s outrage to strike. We haven’t caught the men responsible and are no where near being able to find them, try them, and convict them in a public court of law, as a responsible, honorable country would.
