Does anyone know if any of the other reporters who were there have come forward to confirm this story? I ask not because I find it hard to believe (I don’t), but because it would help get it some traction, as compared to one person saying they heard it several years ago. Of course, what would really help is some video on YouTube.
Does anyone know if any of the other reporters who were there have come forward to confirm this story?
There’s just no way any of Cliff’s unnamed sources will ever allow themselves to be named or come forward on this—it would be career suicide for them. But Cliff has said heard the story exactly the same way, word-for-word, with all the same corroborating details, from three different reporters.
I’m kind of curious about the context of the quote, as I say some things to my friends vocally in jest that would sound horrible if written on print. Given the rumors about his anger problems, I can picture him saying it, but I am still taking this with a big grain of salt.
I give them kudos for not giving the whole “THE MEDIA IS KEEPING THIS UNDERCOVER BECAUSE OF A COVERUP” rap, but the fact that he was never recorded saying it, that reports are from “unidentified sources” and that the even happened years ago also plays into the media picking it up.
I wonder how liberals would react if Obama, or possibly his wife, were being accused of saying some shocking word—like maybe “whitey”—with only sketchy evidence that it happened?
If that’s what he says to his wife in public and in front of reporters, I can’t imagine what he says to her in private.

McCain Campaign Headquarters:
John McCain - Feminist.
“I was only practising ‘The Vagine Monologues’, claims candidate”.
Wonderful. I can’t even spell “vagina” these days.
I blame this mother facking, piece of shet computer, and this cantlicking billsucking connection.
The trouble with his using that word is that he said it to his wife, apparently without impact. Thus, rather than misogyny or spousal abuse, it could just be part of their intimate dialogue. For all we know her pet name for him is “dickhead”. We all know the real insult words are “Huh-NEE” and “SWEET-heart.”
Also, I think we are over looking the bigger issue here; who says the word “trollop”?

Well, that’s how Borat says it…
I could maybe believe that McCain and Cindy have profane pet names for each other—anything’s possible! But for a politician to call his wife a trollop and a cunt in front of reporters in jest? There’s just no fucking way anyone would be stupid enough to do that. I don’t care if he put on a clown nose and went “j/k HAR HAR HAR
” at the end; there are just some things you don’t do as a public figure. Assuming these reporters are telling the truth, that leaves two options:
1. McCain is too fucking stupid/socially stunted to be President.
2. McCain has a huge temper problem and is also two fucking stupid/social stunted to be President.
I guess I should proofread more often. We can all just pretend the “two” was a clever pun, or something.
Also, loved the video.

Well, Myth Adventures fans? But trolls and trollops are the males and females of Trollopia, and Tananda the Trollop is a very cool character; I’ve considered her for a Con costume for years.
Three independent sources have verified it, so it’s not unverified. The context was part of it. All of the reporters confirmed that he was angry (he’s known for having a seriously short temper) and that they were shocked and repulsed.
I don’t think there’s a fun and light way to call your wife a cunt. I mean, it’s theoretically possible, but it would have to be some creative, fun, liberal types who figure it out, I’d think. Certainly a pinheaded grouch like McCain is not the guy.
he was angry (he’s known for having a seriously short temper) and that [the reporters] were shocked and repulsed.
Gotcha. A pure lashing out in anger, showing a lack of impulse control. McCain is the anti-Obama.
As a side note, after someone pointed out the Vulcan imperturbability of Obama, I’ve started to think of him as Tuvok.
Amanda, Cliff Schecter says he verified it from three people. We know none of their names. Cliff Schecter is not a journalist. He is a campaign strategist turned commentator.
Again, I find the story perfectly plausible, not just from published reports, but from conversations with people who have interviewed him and how he’s reacted to questions he doesn’t like. I’m not saying Schecter is unreliable. I know nothing about the man and would have no basis to say that. But personally, when I’m reporting something, if I read something in another outlet and it is attributed to anonymous sources, I’m not going to repeat it unless I can verify it for myself. Obviously, different rules apply to cable talking heads. If they’re going to do the “Did Obama attend a madrassa?” they could do “Did McCain call his wife a cunt?” They could interview Schecter about his book, as one avenue to approach it without endorsing a story they can’t personally verify. Not just cuntgate but the other stuff he found.
But it’s not as simple as “he says he verified it, so it’s verified.”
“Also, I think we are over looking the bigger issue here; who says the word “trollop”?”
Someone who remembers Pearl Harbor.
hehe! I just saw that at eschaton.
“McCain called his wife the worst thing possible!”
“What? She’s not even black!”
