Obama Bans His Muslim Starlight Brotherhood From Recruiting; Conservatives…Angry?

A provision within the new GIVE Act (national volunteerism) bans people in the program from engaging in religious activity as a part of the program.  It’s a rather inoffensive provision; a government program is not being set up to subsidize private religious activity.  You can still go to church on your own time, believe in and worship whatever God you NO YOU CAN’T FASCISM!

The Bill would forbid any student in the brigade to participate in “engaging in religious instruction, conducting worship services, providing instruction as part of a program that includes mandatory religious instruction or worship, constructing or operating facilities devoted to religious instruction or worship, maintaining facilities primarily or inherently devoted to religious instruction or worship, or engaging in any form of religious proselytization.” That means no church attendance or witnessing.

It does.  While you’re on the government’s clock.  Which will not be 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  It’s pretty much the same restriction I had working for the government, when I was unable to share the holy writ of the Cosmos Panda with my coworkers.

The comments are worth checking out, though.  Especially the spelling of Obama with a zero instead of an O.  This is subterfuge the likes of which only the mind of the American hunting man can come up with.

You were too nice on them—seriously, a picture of the Hitler Youth as part of the “argument”? Fuck, man. It’s too early in the morning for this kind of shit.

Oh wait—I just clicked on the video in the second update. That’s what’s got them shitting their pants? It is to laugh.

Fifth comment down:

I don’t care if this is even true, and I’m not sure it is.

Wow.

I guess it would be just awful to actually help people without forcing religious beliefs on them.  Let’s all have a big pity party that we can’t bribe people into our religion with food and basic necessities.

They all tried to warn us Obama was the Antichrist, but we wouldn’t listen.  Now that it’s OMG! he’s anti-Christ! it’s a little too late to stop the Apocalypse.

The Good Christians are all going to be Raptured off to Heaven while the rest of us sit here Left Behind with Satan.  (Which would have happened anyway if McCain was elected, but that’s not my point.)

I hope you bleeding heart Musloliberofascists are happy with yourselves…

PLEASE take all the fundamentalists away into the clouds and Leave me Behind. They get their heaven, and I get mine. It’s win-win.

catgirl: it’s worse than that. Let’s be angry that we can’t use taxpayer money to bribe people into our religion.

You know, a little over a century ago the Natives in this country had the exact same belief.  That someday the white people were all going to be magically whisked away and leave the Natives behind to have their land back.  They were persecuted pretty heavily because of those beliefs.  Funny how things change.

That one struck me too until I realized that reality often interferes with the outrage. It’s all about the outrage, man.

At least it is nice to see that the righties have rediscovered the First Amendment (even if in their own warped interpretation of it).  They always seem to forget about it when one of their own is in office.  Next they’ll be trotting out the black helicopter stuff again.  Oh wait, cue the next article ...

Comment #10: Richard Goblin  on  04/02  at  02:24 PM

Why the hell do they think they should get paid by the government to do religious stuff? And how angrywould they be if someone faked religion for pay?
