Next entry: Certainly Bad…If It Happened Previous entry: JoinRudy2012.com - and McCain’s body isn’t even cold yet

Potty-mouthed Bachmann launches another ‘Obama’s anti-American’ attack

She’s a deranged cus, isn’t she? I don’t know who earns more Pinocchios, but Michele Bachmann or Robin Hayes. I experience maximum schadenfreude with Bachmann, since the homophobic Congresswoman has been on the LGBT community’s radar for years.

On Hugh Hewitt’s radio show yesterday, Bachmann declared that “Barack Obama’s views are against America”:

BACHMANN: All I did on Chris Matthews is I questioned Chris Matthews and said, “look, if John McCain had friends like Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayers and Father Pfleger, you’d be all over him Chris, but you’ve laid off of Barack Obama.” And so, he was using the word “Anti-American” and I told Chris, what I question are Barack Obama’s views. Because Barack Obama’s views are against America. They won’t be good for our country.

On Mike Gallagher’s radio show this morning, Bachmann attacked Obama’s policy proposals, asking rhetorically, “Are they for America or will they be against traditional American ideals and values?”:

BACHMANN: And they can’t take it because the point is what are Barack Obama’s policies? Are they for America or will they be against traditional American ideals and values? And I’ll tell you what. Punishing tax rates, redistribution of wealth, socialized medicine, inputing censorship in the form of the un-Fairness Doctrine and taking away the secret ballot from the worker has nothing to do with traditional American values. That’s why your listeners need to know. Otherwise the United States may be literally changed forever.

When Gallagher asked, “How is it not reasonable to wonder if that’s anti-American?,” Bachmann did not disagree with him.

Think Progress has the audio and full transcript of this self-immolating looney-tune.

Eva at Dump Michele Bachmann reports that the Congresscritter has sent out an emergency fundraising letter now that the GOP has pulled the plug on advertising. A snippet is below the fold.

She isn’t sorry, she isn’t telling the truth. She said what she said on Hardball and she’s paying the price. Oh, so sorry…

Dear Friend:

Nazi. Psychopath. Deranged. Mentally ill. Disgusting human being. Bitch.

I apologize for the rude language. But, these are just a few of the names that my staff and volunteers have been called over the past 24 hours simply because they work for me.

Ever since my appearance on MSNBC’s Hardball on Friday night, my office has received calls from all across the nation - California, Illinois, Georgia, Texas, Oregon, Vermont, and elsewhere. Some of the calls have been respectfully disagreeing with my statements on the show. Most, unfortunately, are full of hate and anger and language like that above - and worse.

And, they’re putting their money where their mouths are.

My opponent has told the media that he raised more than half a million dollars in the 24 hours following the show.

All this because I dared to say that the formative relationships that Barack Obama had are relevant to figuring out what kinds of policies he might bring to the White House. Because I said that Barack Obama’s close relationships with people like Bill Ayers and Jeremiah Wright and others who hold far-out-of-the-mainstream views might have had some influence on the policy positions that Barack Obama holds.

From there Chris Matthews did what Chris Matthews is paid big bucks to do: Twist my words and set them up for full-fledged distortion when his next guest came on. And, when the liberal blogs got hold of little clips of my appearance, the spin machine really kicked into overdrive.

I never said that all liberals are anti-American. I never asked for a House Unamerican Activities Committee witch hunt. But, that’s what the spin machine is saying. And, that’s what these callers believe.

Surf over and read the rest.

Um…last that I checked, Obama is VERY upfront about his policies, so what’s this person of the female gender talking about in asking him what his policies are? It’s like asking someone what color the sky is when you really want to hear them say what color YOU think the sky is and why that makes you special and unique.
Random…sorry. I just think she’s an idiot.

Comment #1: Lindsay  on  10/23  at  04:05 PM

Really, the videotape says it all.  When you paint a large group of people as “anti-American” simply because they hold liberal views, then people do have the right to call you out as the Kool Aid drinking, tinfoil hat wearing nutbag you are.

Comment #2: Joshua  on  10/23  at  04:15 PM

Lindsay—one of the more bizarre tactics from Republicans this year (I’m unsure whether to characterize it as “I know you are, but what am I?” or “La, la, la, I can’t hear you!”) is to claim that Obama is offering no specifics and nobody can get a straight answer out of him. They were already doing this back in the spring, accusing him of giving airy speeches with no specifics, when in fact his website contained detailed policy plans, and McCain’s had things like an “energy policy” that consisted of one paragraph stating that he would act to lower gas prices, without saying anything he’d actually do.

This came up again recently, as McCain sneers that the great thing about Joe the Plumber is that “he did what no one else could—he got an answer out of Barack Obama.”

It’s truly bizarre. Sure, it’s red meat for the base (who are all too glad to repeat it whenever they have a microphone nearby or an open comment thread), but do they really think this is going to convince anyone who watches the debates or clips on the news, and sees Obama talking about policy and McCain talking about Obama?

She’s a deranged cus, isn’t she?

Ah, yup! (Whenever she appears, I mentally hear the Animaniacs bit “Hello, Mr. Crazy Person!”)

A Minnesotan commenter on TPM said it best—most Minnesotans outside her district mentally preface any news story about her with “In another batsh*t crazy statement today, Michelle Bachmann said…”

Comment #4: Redshift  on  10/23  at  04:44 PM

I think that the real problem with wackjob washbags like Bachmann is that Obama more closely represents traditional values of America than they can ever hope to ... except he has some African ancestry, a “funny” name, and they are totally superficial.

Not to mention preaching to themselves, since many more moderate Americans have figured this out during the course of the debates.

Comment #5: Ms Kate  on  10/23  at  04:52 PM

Comment #19: Ms Kate  on  10/23  at  06:26 PM

Okay, I found it ... but the funny thing is, the only pic I saw was one with a woman with a “B” scratched in her face (not “carved”).

Ms. Kate said “Maybe somebody used a mirror.”

Kate, do you have trouble rotating objects in your head as a lot of females do? She was knocked to the ground and the “robber” cut her while hovering over her head facing her legs. Makes sense doesn’t it? Otherwise he’d have to be straddling her and using a mirror. Not likely, huh?

How about that some person aimed fast moving lead into the windows of a home owned by a Central Florida Republican headquarters manager?

Anyone here think Obama ought to criticize these violent attacks?

Comment #22: JimB  on  10/23  at  07:26 PM

nice, so it’s not a problem when your actual supporters, right in front of you at your rally, make death threats, but it’s your fault if allegedly something violent happens on the street (somewhere in a nation of 300 million people) and the perpetrator supports you. gotcha. oh, and ya, a young republican would never do something like that to herself to hurt an opponent. uh huh.

Comment #23: stephanie  on  10/23  at  07:36 PM

He already has.

And, as someone not affiliated with the Obama campaign, thank you very much, the Pennsylvania attack strikes me as odd.  The attacker was wearing an undershirt and no jacket at 9pm yesterday.  According to weather.com, tonight’s low temperature in that neck of the woods is going to go below freezing.  Then there’s the fact that the guy was armed with a knife, but only gently scratched a B into the woman’s face.  Are violent criminals really that conscientious?

Comment #24: keshmeshi  on  10/23  at  07:43 PM

Um, he already has criticized those “violent attacks.” The victim, by the by, refused medical attention. Hmmm.

Only if you’re trying to argue that the attacker was dyslexic and that’s why he drew the letter backwards.

Comment #26: Mnemosyne  on  10/23  at  08:28 PM

The Obama campaign official mouthed the platitude: ““Our thoughts and prayers are with the young woman for her to make a speedy recovery, and we hope that the person who perpetrated this crime is swiftly apprehended and brought to justice.”

The statement refers to a single person and doesn’t seek to calm the passions of the over zealous supporters of Obama. Like the ones, who if Obama wins, will act like their cities NFL team just won the Super Bowl and riot with overwhelming joy.

Mnemosyne, states: “Only if you’re trying to argue that the attacker was dyslexic and that’s why he drew the letter backwards.”

Mnemosyne, are you stupid? The attacker didn’t draw the letter backwards. The graffiti artist scratched a perfectly legible B into the woman’s right cheek while she was laid out with her head facing the attacker’s lap. Do you need to see a 3D CAD model?

Comment #27: JimB  on  10/23  at  09:01 PM

Stephanie, the Secret Service has made a public statement that none of their agents dispersed in the Pennsylvania crowd heard any death threat towards Obama.  The “death threat” was traced to a local, ambitious reporter who mentioned it in an article that was later picked up by a wire service. Remember it’s 2008. Reporters can no longer be trusted to report the news accurately.

Comment #28: JimB  on  10/23  at  09:08 PM

The graffiti artist scratched a perfectly legible B into the woman’s right cheek while she was laid out with her head facing the attacker’s lap.

That sure makes sense.  You’d think that he would need to pin down her legs and arms to keep her from struggling, unless, of course, she’s lying.

And nice try with the typical Republican tactic of blaming the other side of what you are guilty of.

Comment #29: keshmeshi  on  10/23  at  09:08 PM

Keshmeshi, she was punched and kicked to the ground. See the black eye? She may have been partly unconscious. She might have cooperated to reduce further injury like many a rape victim does.

JimB, you’ve insulted Mnemosyne, MsKate, and women in general. That kind of behaviour makes your argument worse than it already is, and gets you on track to Ban-ville. Comment #32: JimB  on  10/23  at  09:27 PM

That’s a very interesting video JimB. It would certainly be unpleasant to be booed by a almost everyone in an area, as the McCain supporters were in the video.

However, it really does seem to me that the booing which these McCain supporters endured is no kind of match for the outright violence that Obama supporters would risk if they ventured into an area of McCain supporters, and walked around carrying Obama signs. In addition, there is a theatrical feel to that video. The McCain supporters are bascially acting in such a way as to guarantee anger and conflict. In my mind, this severely undercuts the thesis of the video, that ‘left wingers’ or ‘intellectuals’ (actually they are just normal city people) are intolerant of contrary views.

Comment #33: atheist  on  10/23  at  09:49 PM

“(actually they are just normal city people) “. Not quite true. This was filmed on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. If you don’t know NYC, it’s a very upscale area. You’ve got to be wealthy and I’d assume somewhat educated to reside there.

Athiest, I’m a hard core conservative who has been posting at pandagon for many years. You’re scolding me for being too insulting? There is every good reason for being “an insulting jerk”. Sometimes you just have to break someone’s confidence so they, just for a moment, think they might not be right about everything they believe.

It’s kind of like fighting. When you show someone you can beat them to the punch, land a punch before they can land theirs, it really does take away their confidence and make winning much easier.

The point of the video was to expose the progressive, educated, wealthy Upper Westsider’s as “insulting jerks”.

Comment #38: JimB  on  10/23  at  11:07 PM

Um, hate to break it to you Jim B, but most of the best GIS experts in my field are female.  “most females” is bullshit.

Maybe your head spinning around is the problem here?  Go easy on the tomato soup ...

As for our Heroine, let’s call her Tawana,  I believe that she was mugged and that the camera will show it.  She refused treatment, but most people lacking health insurance would ... unless there is something she didn’t want known.  What I don’t believe is the rest of the story, and I suspect that the security camera will demonstrate that it didn’t happen as she said.

Yes, I do, because what you’re claiming is completely implausible.  If you don’t have time for the CAD model, you can use your blow-up doll.

As I said, the whole thing has a certain Morton Downey Jr. feel to it.  If the ATM camera shows that it happened like she claimed, I’ll be glad to say I’m wrong.  Until then, though, it’s all just a little too convenient, isn’t it?

“JimB is our house Projectionist tonight” Lame.

“She refused treatment, but most people lacking health insurance would ... unless there is something she didn’t want known.”

She had a black eye and some organized scratches on her cheek. I get black eye’s a few times a year and don’t seek medical attention and I have health insurance.

Maybe she was raped as well and doesn’t want the whole world to know or at least the kind and gentle liberal media. If the perp had time to scratch a “B” into her cheek, he had time to sexually assault her assuming he was straight.

Comment #47: JimB  on  10/23  at  11:45 PM

Jim, this supposedly happened in full view of the ATM video recorder, which captured the incident (according to police).  Even if she was somehow raped out of view of that camera and nobody noticed, she would have to do some serious washing to remove the evidence, even a day or two out, and I don’t think she would have refused treatment - unless she believes rape kits are evil now and said thanks but no thanks.

I think she got attacked and robbed.  I’m waiting to see if this second bit shows on tape because I think she knew exactly the best way to convert a “well, young lady, you shouldn’t withdraw money in a big city so you deserved it” chiding into the kind of sympathy a victim of crime deserves, as well as get some help to pay for her injuries.

Comment #48: Ms Kate  on  10/23  at  11:50 PM

One more thing Jim - rape is a crime of power, not sex.  Being straight has shit all to do with it, as most “prison rapists” are straight males who rape straight males.

And I never draw a gun on anything unless I mean to kill it, and that includes an attacker. I don’t give a fine feathered fart what any instructor might say about it. Political correctness has even invaded shooting vocabulary.

If I want to neutralize something, I take it to the vet.

“Neutralize” will not save you in court by disproving you have the intent to commit homocide. The issue is always whether such homicide is justified or accidental.I get a kick out of those who think they can evade killing by neutralizing.

If you can’t kill in self defence, put the gun away and use the phone. You shoot a gun at someone, and I guarantee that intent to kill is proven in a court of law, by pulling the trigger.Your only true defences are accident or justification ( Oh! was that a gun in my hand , not a neutralizer device? BUahahahahahah!).

According to the Smoking Gun folks, there might be more to this story than meets the eye:

Shortly before the reported 9 PM attack, Todd updated her Twitter page with a post noting that she was, “Stubbornly searching for a bank of america to avoid ATM fees.” Soon after, she blogged, “Pretty sure I’m on the wrong side of pittsburgh.” Three hours after that update, Todd wrote, “Oh the blog I will be making soon…Its been a rough night.” A screen grab of Todd’s Twitter page—which was linked from her page on a College Republican National Committee web site—can be found below. At about 6 PM (est) tonight, Todd’s Twitter page became protected and was no longer publicly available. (1 page)

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if she was genuinely mugged.  But most muggers don’t run away and then come back to start beating the victim again because they don’t like a bumper sticker on their victim’s car.

I think she saw an opportunity to draw attention to herself with just a small addition to her injuries and took it.

iii, Assault her, as opposed to just threatening her AND
iv, With his fingernail despite having a knife DID
v, Mark her in a carefully even fashion WITHOUT
vi, Her struggling enough to spoil the effect ON
vii, A portion of her face which should heal easily.

Now, perhaps somewhere out there is a politically aware mugger who takes the time to assault people in a considerate fashion rather than, I dunno, taking the money and running, or slicing through their lip and leaving a scar that would never go away - but I doubt it.

We await further news.  My opinion, for what little it is worth is that why she may have been mugged and punched, the “B” is self-inflicted.

There is every good reason for being “an insulting jerk”. Sometimes you just have to break someone’s confidence so they, just for a moment, think they might not be right about everything they believe.

-

Um, hate to break it to you Jim B, but most of the best GIS experts in my field are female.  “most females” is bullshit.

Maybe your head spinning around is the problem here?  Go easy on the tomato soup ...

As for our Heroine, let’s call her Tawana, I believe that she was mugged and that the camera will show it.  She refused treatment, but most people lacking health insurance would ... unless there is something she didn’t want known.  What I don’t believe is the rest of the story, and I suspect that the security camera will demonstrate that it didn’t happen as she said.

Ms Kate on 10/23

Now that the failure of your tactic is evident, do you admit that there is little to no good reason to act like an insulting jerk on a public internet forum?

From a McCain/Palin -supporting cop on Malkin’s site:

“I’m a cop - 8th year now - and this McCain supporter attack just didn’t pass the “smell test” as soon as I read about it.

At this point, I’ll guess the shiner was inflicted either by a friend willingly as part of this hoax or a boyfriend in a domestic dispute.

The “B” is far to[o] shallow and clean to be taken seriously. Reminds me of the stab wounds that a “hero” would get when fighting off a phantom attacker - far to[o] superficial to have been done in what is a fairly violent encounter.

Either way, I’m voting McCain

And the latest news on the video camera:

Police planned to administer a polygraph test to Ashley Todd, 20, because her statements about the attack conflict with evidence from the Citizens Bank ATM where she claims the incident occurred, police said.

Seems the rethugs wanted a surveillance society for the post 9/11 world, but didn’t expect to be caught on tape?

Comment #64: Ms Kate  on  10/24  at  08:51 AM

Maybe she was raped as well and doesn’t want the whole world to know or at least the kind and gentle liberal media. If the perp had time to scratch a “B” into her cheek, he had time to sexually assault her assuming he was straight.

JimB on 10/23 at 10:45 PM

Maybe she was strung out on goofballs before she mutilated herself and then blamed a scary black man for the assault she performed on herself.  And didn’t want the medical records to show that her story was complete and utter horse hockey.

I mean, as long as we’re throwing out half @$$ed bull$h!t theories about what happened without a shred of evidence to back them up, then why not do it based on her being your basic lying hypocritical Republican’t while we’re at it?

Oh - by the way, Jimmy Bob, you sound an awful lot like the guy who pays to troll Talk Left with his Republican’t propaganda.  Do you guys come in six packs available at your local Republican’t propaganda outlet?  And, do you have to practice to become so utterly divorced from the reality based world, or does it come naturally to Republican’t Putsch fellators such as yourself?

Guys, JimB admitted to getting multiple black eyes EVERY YEAR.  A guy like that, he’s not going to understand reason or logic.  I mean, how do you get multiples every year as a fricking adult?  Coupled with his troglodytic views on women and society in general, I imagine we can just ignore him.

Seriously.  Who gets multiple black eyes?

Comment #66: speedbudget  on  10/24  at  09:02 AM

Ms Kate, how could you possibly interpret that news correctly, being female and all… [/snark]

I love how JimB thinks he’s all hot shit, and hasn’t been banned here yet, and thinks that means he won’t ever be banned.

And what is this bullshit: “She had a black eye and some organized scratches on her cheek. I get black eye’s a few times a year and don’t seek medical attention and I have health insurance. “...?

An attempt at snark?  Or does he insult people in real life as often as he does here — forgetting that while people in the blogosphere can’t reach through the screen and punch him in the face like he sometimes deserves, the same is not true IRL…?

Comment #67: MikeEss  on  10/24  at  09:15 AM

JimB, just because I don’t post a lot doesn’t mean I haven’t been reading and lurking. Your tactics are turning people off your argument, plain and simple. I’ve seen people banned for less. Enjoy being ignored by the people you’re trying to convince, at any rate.

Comment #68: sharlit159  on  10/24  at  09:16 AM

Speedbudget beat me to it. I was going to ask JimB if he was trying to tell us that he wasn’t just an idiot, but a thug too.

(Not to mention his use of the apostrophe-s to denote the plural of the word “eye”. I know he hates education like any good red-blooded wingnut should, but that’s really showing off.)

Comment #69: wapsie  on  10/24  at  12:21 PM

<strike>Kate,</strike>  JimB, do you have trouble dealing with reality as a lot of <strike>females</strike> Wingnuts do?

There.  Fixed that for you.

Is that the best you can do, Asshat?  Used tired, and erroneous gender stereotypes to further a non-existent argument?

Oh, and .... GIS=Geographic Information Systems.  Requires extensive use of spatial reasoning, as well as advanced computer and math skills.  As Kate noted, some of the best in the field, including myself, are female.

Go fuck yourself (Cuz no one else will), JimB

Comment #70: AdobeDragon  on  10/24  at  01:37 PM

Poor JimB was really desperate to believe this story, and guess what?  The cops think she’s lying.  There’s not even any video from the ATM where she says it happened.

Now I’m getting to the point where I’m starting to feel sorry for the poor kid.  It must suck to be so upset that your candidate is losing that you make up a story about being attacked for your politics.

Comment #71: Mnemosyne  on  10/24  at  02:18 PM

Oh, and it sounds like her friends are going to be pretty pissed if it turns out she lied about the whole thing, because they’re the ones who made her go to the police.  I’m guessing she just wanted to be an internet star and never expected that she’d have to actually file a police report or furnish proof or anything.

Comment #72: Mnemosyne  on  10/24  at  02:20 PM

KDKA is reporting that she confessed to making it up, and that charges are being filed against her.

She’s lucky she didn’t get anyone killed.

Remember the Susan Smith “A black man stole my babies” story?  That resulted in a number of assaults and a few torched cars.

The Freepers are now claiming that the “B” victim was really a Democratic or Ron Paul plant involved in a HUGE media conspiracy to discredit the McCain/Palin campaign.
