If anyone out there has a Mac-compatible copy of Photoshop they’d be looking to get rid of cheap, e-mail me

We are in dire need of self-made internet macros.

Don’t forget GIMP. There’s a learning curve, but it’s pretty powerful, runs on Macs, and it’s free.

Skitch is a really nice mac app that lets you do simple image editing and uploading.

Unfortunately, their text looks kind of weird.  But it’s free.

Video introduction and sign-up page here: http://skitch.com/signup/

Actually, it turns out you can fix the text by hitting comand-t and turning off the outline and shadow.

So I take back what I said about the text looking bad.

You seriously don’t need photoshop for that.

(Well, there are other reasons we need Photoshop too, like site design, etc.)

I agree with Peter, you should check out the GIMP—it can do 90% of what Photoshop does, and the missing 10% is stuff you might not miss anyway.  There’s even a version of it that’s set up to have a similar user interface to Photoshop.

Failing that, try Photoshop Elements.  It’s crippleware, with some of the advanced features of Photoshop stripped out, but again, there’s a good chance they’re features you don’t need anyway—and it’s much cheaper.  My copy was a freebie in the box when I bought a Wacom tablet.

Jesse - seriously, I think you have geeks, Mac geeks no less, willing to see if we can help you use another product that doesn’t require you, Amanda & Pam, drugging Marc and selling his kidney and precious bodily fluids.  Outline to us what you want to do in terms of specialized graphic functions, and I’d bet we could give you a guide to using another package in executing those functions.

Sweet - let me get a list together, and we shall feature shop. wink

you could always try torrenting it? http://btjunkie.org/search?q=photoshop+mac

I probably could get you one, but it might not be really current, would that be ok? (My mum used to do graphic design, but she’s been retired a few years).

I need to keep track of this thread. I need to do so much stuff that iPhoto sucks at.

Let me add my vote for Gimp. I use CS2 at work and Gimp at home. So far, the only thing I can’t easily replicate in Gimp is the “despeckle” tool, but I haven’t really gone hunting for the appropriate commands. Everything else that I do in Photoshop, I have been able to handle in Gimp without much of a learning curve.

(Of course, you have to keep in mind I’m a tech writer not a tech illustrator, so I’m still in the “Oooh! Let’s crank this value all the way up and see what happens!” stage of both programs. And I haven’t figured out if Gimp can handle CMYK, but unless you’re doing print graphics, it doesn’t really matter much.)

ROFLbot editor is a web based too for popping text on an image.
