RNC Chair Continues Plan To Be Edgy Black Man From 1992 Sitcom

Michael Steele will give the GOP an “off the hook” hip-hop makeover, telling critics to “stuff it”

Steele’s future plans include making Cross Colours the official outfitter of the 2010 midterms, mandating that all future parades involve ghost riding one whip per candidate and speaking as his alter ego, Romeo Golds, whenever his lady love is around.

Newly elected Republican National Committee Chairman Michael S. Steele plans an “off the hook” public relations offensive to attract younger voters, especially blacks and Hispanics, by applying the party’s principles to “urban-suburban hip-hop settings.”

... two demographics they’ve tried to keep from voting for the better part of how many years?

Pasty white dudes in hip hop couture?

Hilarious.

Comment #2: Cat Ion  on  02/19  at  06:21 PM

[Steele] said he is putting a new public relations team into place to update the party’s image.

“It will be avant garde, technically,” he said.

And we thought the last eight years were the theater of the absurd.

Comment #3: Cris  on  02/19  at  06:29 PM

Knowing the usual ridiculousness of Republican attempts to appeal to the people they hate openly, this new “makeover” will begin and end with the self-conscious infixion of the nonsense syllable “-izz-” into every key word uttered by a GOP lawmaker. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go out and get a slizzice of pizzizza.

Also, that photograph in the CNN link is the second funniest political photograph I’ve ever seen. It’s Black Nixon!

(For the record, the funniest one was that picture of Sarah Palin from such an angle that the edge of the stage looked like the SS logo.)

Awesome comments from the Washington Times site:

Right now, in Washington, we have crooked politicians who believe in abortion (democrats) and crooked politicians who do not believe in abortion (republicans). If Mr. Steele wants to inject a HIP HOP makeover into the GOP he is dead on the wrong track. HIP HOP espouses a degenerate culture with no moral values whatsoever beyond instant gratification. Make the GOP something we can build on. Something strong enough to build a nation on. The rest will fall in to place.

I used to like this guy and even voted for him but he is an idiot. The race war doesn’t need anymore help getting started. When the upcoming generation who is getting royally shafted by this bogus “stimulus package” wakes up and realizes that the blacks have sold them into debtor’s prison to elect one of their own. People like Steele, Obama and the rest of the black politcians will be treated as the pariahs they are and their lives won’t be worth a dime. Obama and his tribe of sissies didn’t win the election, the white supremacists did. They predicted this debacle and the uprising that will ensue.

Hey, my dad has an account a Washington Times ...

How misguided and tone-deaf the Republican party must be to think that because they lost an election to a black man, they just need to get more jiggy with it.  Hope they keep it up.

Hey, my dad has an account a Washington Times

Once while reading the comments section of an op-ed, I came across a hostile comment repeating a bunch of right-wing talking points about the stimulus package and then saw that it was written by my father, using his own name. Oh, the shame, the shame.

Comment #8: Tyro  on  02/19  at  06:52 PM

I never thought I’d say this but I wish Jesse Helms and Strom Thurmond were still alive so they could get a load of Chairman Steele.

It is! And based on your comment, I had to check it out, but I didn’t check carefully and clicked on the Washington Times link instead. The photo there is also Black Nixon! Amazing! (More of a “Final Days” look, though.)

There are a lot of social conservatives among black Americans.  A lot of black people go to church.  A lot of black people oppose abortion.  A lot of black people oppose gay marriage.

Throwing around catchphrases from Fresh Prince of Bel Air is unlikely to do anything to curry favor with these demographics.

This is my one chance to gloat about having a Liberaler Than Thou family member, so I’m gonna take it.

My grandfather (who is actually an FDR Democrat, and not terribly liberal) often writes into my hometown paper, where he is inevitably the voice of reason.  I am more proud of him that I can entirely put into words.

Pat Boone singing 50 Cent.  The mind boggles.

The Republican party has finally reached a point where its racist past no longer comprises its present leadership, and it now has a strong incentive to renounce racism.

Renounce it, yes.  Stop practicing it, no.  The racist politics of the GOP disguised with words like “affirmative action is racist” are what keeps the GOP’s insane collective together.  If they abandon that, then all they have left is right-wing religious Christians.  And there are not enough of them outside the south to build a coalition around.

“Throwing around catchphrases from Fresh Prince of Bel Air is unlikely to do anything to curry favor with these demographics.”

...well, no, but it will ingratiate Steele with traditional staid Republicans — who live in a world saturated with a chronic baseline level of ingrained racism — who can now point to Steele as their Official Black Buddy, and they’ll think he’s “hip”...

can i wear my cross colours backwards like kriss kross? if so, i think i can get jiggy with the GOP.

Is Snoop Dogg consulting on this stuff?  Maybe he could lend Steele a couple of new catch phrases…

Comment #20: MikeEss  on  02/19  at  10:47 PM

I wonder if we’ll see Mitt Romney deliver more GOP street cred and bust out “Who Let the Dogs Out” again?

Comment #21: Pam Spaulding  on  02/20  at  12:46 AM

Since Steele is a Democrat, clearly he is very effectively carrying out his mission to destroy the GOP from the inside.

At least, I hear that’s the best way to eat an Oreo.

My favorite part of all this is imagining the epic heart attacks David Duke must be having.

Dang, someone did the kriss kross backwards Cross Colours joke before me.

(sorry if this double-posts.  trying again…)

Mitchforth, you’re talking about the party whose last president gutted civil rights enforcement and let a largely-black city drown.  Whose most popular president, Reagan, launched his own national campaign with an appeal to states’ rights in Philadelphia, MS.  That currently has Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck as its standard bearers.

You really think Steele is going to change that?

You’re right that they’re doomed in the long term if they don’t abandon their racism.  You’re wrong if you think the current party is really less racist than in the past.  The bloc of socially conservative blacks and anti-abortion hispanics will never be big enough to offset the David Duke wing.

Do you think even the conservative religious blacks are going to vote for the party that demonizes Revs. Wright, Jackson, and Sharpton?  Do you expect anti-choice hispanics to vote for the party that characterizes Mexican migrants as an invading army of subhuman filth?

Anyway, Steele isn’t talking about changing the party’s policy platform.  He’s talking about a PR campaign and hoping they can fool as many non-whites into voting against their interests as they’ve done with certain classes of whites.  I think the GOP currently has about as much of their vote as they’re ever going to get.
