The Endangered Puma

imageRebecca Traitster lists twelve reasons why Clinton supporters are still angry.  Some are valid, some are head-scratchers, some show a disturbing adherence to a cult of personality that seems far outsize to anything Clinton’s done or would likely do.

But one thing heartens me is that no matter how angry Clinton supporters get, McCain will aggressively pursue ways to unnecessarily alienate them.

From Heather Wilson, an anti-choice, pro-war, anti-universal healthcare Republican representative from New Mexico:

“Barack Obama recently told women who have questions about his record and his campaign to ‘get over it.’  Working women in New Mexico are worried that Obama has yet to come up with a plan to lower gas prices - we won’t just ‘get over it.’  Obama has put New Mexico jobs at risk with his economic plan and tax increases on small businesses - we won’t just ‘get over it.’  Women’s votes should not be taken for granted, and this sort of language reminds us why.  I’m supporting John McCain because he’s campaigning for the vote of all Americans, including the former Clinton supporters and women to whom Obama is referring, and many of them, like me, see him as a leader who can keep our nation safe and get our economy back on track.”

You know the best way to reach out to women, particularly disaffected Clinton supporters?  Treat them so patronizingly that the only real question for them is if they’re smart enough to avoid getting hit by cars on the way to vote for McCain.  Or, alternately, on their way to McDonald’s to vote for the McRib.  That’s two Mcs instead of one!

If J. Sydney McCain III really has a secret way to reduce gas prices why is he keeping it a secret from his BFF G. Walker Bush?

At a meeting with members of the Congressional Black Caucus last week, reported by ABC News, Mr Obama urged women who had backed Mrs Clinton to support him against John McCain, the Republican nominee.

“If women take a moment to realize that on every issue important to women, John McCain is not in their corner, that would help them get over it,” he said, according to Congresswoman Yvette Clark.

Maybe not the best choice of words, but slightly different than the context provided by Ms. Wilson.

”...why is he keeping it a secret from his BFF G. Walker Bush?”

Shush!

You gotta keep this low profile:  George W. Bush is really a liberal infiltrator.  If Commander McCain were to share his secret knowlege, the liberals would use it to plunge the whole country into despair and ruin, teetering on the edge of economic, political, and moral disaster…

...kind of like it is today…but with, you know, that “guy” (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) as president…

PUMA is republican creation.

but right now google doesn’t seem to say they are spreading anymore. It’s stuck at 140-150K.

google start producing “google trend” it’s not sustainable. They need more “fox news” exposure, to keep it going. Specially now that major progressive blog start doing counter spin.

I’ll give it a month till it die otherwise.

Some day I’d like to read a story about Democratic voters considering voting for McCain where the story doesn’t feature any Republicans, racists, Hillary-sycophants, or pundits’ neighbors’ taxi drivers’ dog sitters’ neices.  I know it sounds like a juicy story, and I’m sure it’s a real problem, but can’t anyone come up an entire article without resorting to a Republican’s view?

Comment #5: jon  on  06/23  at  11:04 PM

I dunno.  I sure would like Hiilary and/or Barack to challenge people who won’t vote for him because he’s black.  It would control the news cycle for days if not weeks, and it would challenge America to do better.

It wouldn’t be hard to call out the misogynists, either, along the same general lines, at the same time, politically-speaking.

Maybe this is a short-term loser, but it is a long-term winner.  Check out the youngsters opinions.

Completely O/T, but yet another steaming load of ev-psy bullshit resulting in yet another thread of whiny geeks complaining that Nice Guys™ finish last.

This is completely off topic, but O.M.G.

I think I just laughed so hard I hurt something.

Seriously? Seriously?!?!

“Seriously? Seriously?!?!”

If Dobson’s criticizing Obama’s understanding of the bible, well that nails it — along with everything else, Obama’s a better biblical scholar than an idiot like Dobson.

How can Obama have so much talent and still keep it shoved in that skinny body?...

Comment #11: MikeEss  on  06/24  at  09:40 AM

All Democratic voters need to read “Nixonland.”  If you’re serious about derailing a third Bush term, then you need to put your differences aside and vote for the Democratic nominee—no matter what divisive bullshit the corporate media or the right wing dirty tricksters throw out there.  The ghost of Tricky Dick walks among us, and he is as devious as ever.  Or at least he is as devious as he needs to be, what with our unsophisticated electorate and all.

Hello confluence crew. You are about to become irrelevant. But keep talking anyway.

I understand Clinton supporters’ hostility towards Mark Penn, but they seem to miss the critical fact that it was Clinton herself who appointed him.  The single most important thing about HRC that cost her my support is her ties to, and support of, DLC Made Guys like Mark Penn.

From Heather Wilson, an anti-choice, pro-war, anti-universal healthcare Republican representative from New Mexico

Wilson is already history.  She quit her House seat to run for the Senate seat vacated by the retiring Pete Domenici and lost to (Country) Club For Growth Republican Steve Pearce.  Democrat Tom Udall is way ahead of Pearce in the polls—so much so that the suddenly cash-strapped Republican Senate Campaign Committee has all but conceded the race.

Comment #15: "Fair and Balanced" Dave  on  06/24  at  11:45 AM

Obama was the wire-to-wire champion—I don’t see how Clinton supporters can be mad at anyone but the press. I ask seriously as an Obamaton: what is the objection of the die-hard Clintonistas? What do they see in her that I just do not?

Comment #16: Hector B.  on  06/24  at  01:05 PM

From Heather Wilson, an anti-choice, pro-war, anti-universal healthcare Republican representative from New Mexico.

Oddly enough, despite her, ahem, “stellar” credentials, Ms. Wilson wasn’t the Wing-nuttiest, and Republican primary voters opted for Pearce, who makes Wilson seem almost moderate.

But as Dave said above, Pearce should get his ass handed to him by Udall this fall.

Comment #17: AdobeDragon  on  06/24  at  08:02 PM

I think Udall would make a great Vice-President.  He’d be a longshot guy to pick, especially if he looks like he might actually win a Senate seat, but a good one from a family with eco credentials, humor, solid Democratic history (look up Morris K. Udall sometime,) and he’s a Westerner with more credibility as such than McCain could even imagine.

Comment #18: jon  on  06/24  at  09:11 PM

Self-editing is not my friend.  Get rid of “as such” and my last sentence might make a bit more sense, please.

Comment #19: jon  on  06/24  at  09:13 PM

We’ll likely have TWO Udalls, since Mark Udall has been consistently leading Bob Schaffer in Colorado by up to 9%.

Obama is the ideal candidate for ensuring this win because he has led McCain wire-to-wire and would help downticket, whereas Clinton was consistently far behind.

Hopefully, we won’t have THREE Udalls (Gordon Smith is another cousin of the Udalls.)

Comment #20: calvinhobbes  on  06/24  at  11:34 PM

I think we have to separate the “Clinton Supporters” who simply thought her the best candidate for a variety of reasons, but are willing to move on from the “Clinton Supporters” who simply thought Hillary was the Messiah.

I suspect the latter group is concentrated in NYC, is over 50, and isn’t going to give it up.  I also suspect the latter group is quite small.
