Next entry: And round we go again on this Previous entry: Friday Genius Ten “Who Says A Rock Band Can’t Play Hard To Define Electronic Music?”—-now with cats

The fundies were right

Strange shit starts happening, as if by magic, when you legalize gay marriage.

I took this picture from someone’s lawn art.  Whimsy, or a sign of the impending apocalypse?

I thought at first it was an abstract representation of Glenn Beck’s (deeply disturbed) mind, but “is that a dog & cat gettin’ it on?” is probably closer to the mark…

“Dogs will give the Heimlich maneuver to cats!”

Doesn’t look like the cat has consented.

A friend of mine, when he was younger, never had a pet—and he got the impression along the way that dogs and cats were the same animal, but that “dog” was the name for the male, and “cat” the female, like “rooster” and “hen” or something.  So he wouldn’t find this sculpture to be at all remarkable.

You people!  It’s PETA saving a cat from slavery.

It is a slippery slope, to be sure.  On the night that Obama was elected, we had neighbors over and their dog came with them.  My cat, who has never had much use for this dog or any dog - in his own house, mind you - came out and startled at the sight of Maya, but then walked up to her amid all the cheering and crying and fist bumps from the humans and touched noses and nudged the neighbor dog !!!!!

They have been on friendly terms ever since.

It’s okay, cats are stereotypically effeminate anyway.

I had both cats and dogs growing up, but I thought the same thing when I was very young.  All the cats I knew were female, and all the dogs I knew were male.  I assumed that they mated and the momma cat gave birth to male puppies and female kittens.  Fortunately, I didn’t know enough about pregnancy and birth to realize how painful that could be.  I think a huge part of my reasoning is that sexual dimorphism between men and women are exaggerated to such an extent, that I was led to believe that male and female humans are really biologically as different as cats and dogs.  It also didn’t help that many illustrations in children’s books showed girls playing with cats and boys playing with dogs.
