Totally OT: During a tour of the British Parliament, the guide explained the origin of the expression “toe the line.”  The party in power and the opposition sit on opposite sides of the hall, with a space of carpet between them.  There are lines in the carpet in front of each bank of seats, and MPs are required to stay behind the line in front of their seat.  Apparently, those lines are two sword-lengths apart.  When debates got heated in the days when gentlemen wore swords, they could draw swords on each other, but so long as they remained behind their lines, they could not get into fights or injure each other.  Therefore, “toeing the line” meant standing as close to the line as you could get without going over (i.e., your toes were on the line, but you didn’t cross it and start a duel).

Well I’m only responding to posts directed at me so if someone wont direct them at me nor discuss my posts then I wouldnt have to respond. Isnt there a rule that posts have to be about the subject matter or about explaining ones own opinions? When someone is derailing this blog by talking about words and presumptions about words then that this not about the subject matter. When someone aims a post torwards the person whom the sender erroneously perceives to have made an error regarding word usage, even after the receiver has explained ad infinitum what they meant, then that is simply trolling. The receiver then has to continue to explain to the brain dead loser who started it all what they meant because if they dont then their post will be misperceived and communication will be inhibited which inhibits the writers voice. So perhaps if the nitwit who obsessed over verbage which neither has anything to do with the main subject and has already been adequately explained should stop talking about it or else the one whom the post is about will have to clarify the ignorant asses misinterpretation-again. As for the post, I second the appreciation the Bachman/Snopes line. I’m finding this whole pre-primary race all rather entertaining, although I guess that’s much easier for me since I’m not from the US and thus don’t have to cope with whoever gets elected, directly. (Indirectly, yes.)

BS seems to have come out of the same drawer as the majority of Republican candidates this cycle. This bout of troll-o-rhea makes a nice analogy to Jesse’s post, with BS as the candidate and Pandagon regulars as the MSM. (1) It’s all about them, (2) They try to brow-beat you into talking about what they want to talk about, and (3) Facts are irrelevant. Except that Pandagon folks are a lot less willing to be herded into tolerating such bluster.
