The Promise Of Tomorrow

Pandagon

imageClasses are canceled tomorrow, so here’s what you get - I (along with any other of our Pandagon authors who want to participate) will be doing a blogathon from 8 AM Eastern until whenever we have a new President-Elect.  This means that there will be new content at least every half hour - this also means that you can send me e-mails at pandagon-at-gmail-dot-com and there’s a good chance it’ll make it onto the site.

Starting at 7, a CoverItLive liveblog will go up, concurrent with the first polls closing.  Hope to see everyone bright and early, and if I find out any of you eligible voters didn’t vote, I have a large box of feet ready to be broken off in your asses.

Registration is now required! We're still in the process of getting it all squared away, so for the moment don't forget to Login or Register using the links in the upper left menu before starting to write your comment.

Nope.  Too gay.  Alright, everyone strip down and get back in the pile.

Voted three weeks ago. Damn, I love early voting.

Comment #3: Dweeze  on  11/03  at  06:38 PM

Voted two weeks ago, so I’ve been waiting long enough for this day. I can’t officially cancel classes tomorrow, but I can sure as hell let them go if they want to vote, and I plan on doing just that.

Comment #4: Incertus, Nacho Daddy  on  11/03  at  06:39 PM

I protect myself by wearing a butt plug and two neoprene diving suits.  We Republicans have been in training for this for a long while now.

In honor of Emperor Barack I…

Look for the union label
When you are buying that coat, dress or blouse.
Remember somewhere our union’s sewing,
our wages going to feed the kids, and run the house.
We work hard, but who’s complaining?
Thanks to the I.L.G. we’re paying our way!
So always look for the union label,
it says we’re able to make it in the U.S.A.!

Comment #6: Descartes  on  11/03  at  06:49 PM

It seems like every site I read tomorrow is having a blog-o-thon! It seems like I should probably take the day off, what with all the frantic RSS speed-reading I’ll be doing. I voted more than a week ago.

Comment #7: Sarah TX  on  11/03  at  06:51 PM

Obama’s ailing grandmother just died…a day too early.  This is…just wow.

Comment #8: Ranylt  on  11/03  at  06:51 PM

Hey Jesse -

The first polls close tomorrow at 6PM Eastern (Indiana and Kentucky), might want to start the liveblog then.  If it looks quickly like Obama is going to win Indiana once polls close there, we’ll know almost for sure that he’s gonna be the next POTUS.  There is no realistic map for McCain in which he loses Indiana.

Comment #9: DTG in STL  on  11/03  at  06:54 PM

RIP Madelyn Lee Payne Dunham, 1922-2008

So sad, less than 30 hours before history.

Everybody put Obama in the White House tomorrow, and do it for Toot.

Comment #10: DTG in STL  on  11/03  at  06:56 PM

That’s just not fair. That’s just tragic.

Comment #11: ginmar  on  11/03  at  07:01 PM

I’m actually sorta sad I don’t have class tomorrow.  Instead, I’ll be biting my nails until the polls close, praying for President X to get elected, you white devils!

Comment #12: Eric  on  11/03  at  07:15 PM

Jesse where the hell are you that classes are cancelled and why won’t UW Law do the same!?!

Though to be fair I guess I’ll just be sitting in class on the internet all day as opposed to at home on the internet and *drinking* all day.

Comment #13: belle absente  on  11/03  at  07:24 PM

Obama wins Florida and the Blogathon ends at 8pm mountain time.

Comment #14: karl  on  11/03  at  07:25 PM

Careful, if we have another 2000 situation (knock on wood), the liveblogging may need a LOT of coffee… smile

Comment #15: Ellen  on  11/03  at  07:33 PM

Just wanted to say good luck from the other side of the Atlantic, y’all. A whole load of us will be staying up through the night watching on the BBC, and we’ve all got our fingers crossed (even a good deal of the right-wingers here seem to be pro-Obama).

Comment #16: Rockit  on  11/03  at  07:34 PM

I’m not eligible! Don’t hurt me!

Comment #17: Rebecca  on  11/03  at  07:36 PM

I specifically chose not to vote early (though my husband did, two weeks ago).  I want to take my daughters (3 and 1.5) with me to experience it and early voting didn’t seem quite so…official.  smile

(Plus, my polling place is the community center literally across the street from my front door.  I’m a SAHM and I can watch the line out my window for a good time to go.)

Comment #18: Lee  on  11/03  at  07:49 PM

I was originally going to go as soon as the polls open tomorrow, but it turns out that one of my coworkers needs me to cover for her so she can vote first thing in the morning.  So it’s going to be a tag team instead.

(I love that I now live and work within a 3-mile radius.  Makes stuff like changing the time I go vote much easier.)

Comment #19: Mnemosyne  on  11/03  at  07:58 PM

I sent in my absentee ballot weeks ago.

Yesterday at a volunteer center making calls to Ohio, I was sitting next to an older black woman. She said she normally votes early too, but this year she’s taking her granddaughter to the voting booth with her. How cool is that?

Comment #20: Apsalar  on  11/03  at  08:13 PM

Obama wins Florida and the Blogathon ends at 8pm mountain time.

Better yet… Obama wins Indiana and the blogothon ends at 4:30PM Mountain Time.

Yes, that is in fact possible.  If he takes Indiana, he takes the election according to pretty much every single analyst with a clue.  They won’t call it officially until CA polls close at 10PM MST, but if IN goes to Obama early, we’ll know how the story is gonna end.

Comment #21: DTG in STL  on  11/03  at  08:19 PM

Don’t forget the down ballot races.  Two years ago I was sweating out the House race I was working on until the wee hours.  Never did get an answer that night.  It wasn’t over for several days, when we finally heard we lost by ~330 votes.

We’ll be sweating out lots of other results even if we know who’s moving to the White House.

Comment #22: libdevil  on  11/03  at  08:23 PM

I wish I had thought to have Morgan press the button to select Obama.  Damn.  I’m going to be spending tomorrow glued to the computer at work until I get off, at which point I will promptly glue myself to the computer at home until we’re safe.

I am so very sorry about his grandmother.

Comment #23: INTPagan  on  11/03  at  08:24 PM

I voted absentee AND I have a free day tomorrow, so thank God for this. I will be with you every step of the way. You guys here at Pandagon ROCK.

Comment #24: Sarah  on  11/03  at  08:31 PM

Already voted.

And yes, it isn’t fair.  One day.  One day more and she would have seen history in the making.

Then again, I’m going out on a limb and saying she went secure in the knowledge that our country would do the right thing.

Comment #25: Damian  on  11/03  at  08:35 PM

I’m voting very early this morning and then doing last minute GOTV.

Comment #26: Ben D.  on  11/03  at  08:37 PM

QFMFT. If he wins Indiana early, it will be a LBJ 1964 style victory.

Comment #27: Ben D.  on  11/03  at  08:45 PM

Every time I vote in person I get a little choked up, remembering going to vote with my mom as a kid and watching her fill in the ballot.  So please, parents, take your kids with you to the polls!  They can grow up to be sappy civic-minded twentysomethings like me.  : )

I will be going to vote very early in the AM… probably not 6 AM early, but soon thereafter.  Wahoooo!

Comment #28: LauraB  on  11/03  at  08:49 PM

You’re also in a much more sustainable lifestyle than someone who commutes 30 miles each way every day.

Indeed. I just hope it ends better than that one.

I just caught this over at Feministe, and whoa is it a tearjerker…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfjQujYrfEk

It’s from the Obama Campaign, and it’s basically a video montage of the long journey that got us from the Old State Capitol in Springfield, IL in February 2007 to today, set to music and excerpts of his “Closing Argument” speech that he’s been stumping for the past week.

It is fantastic and moving.

Comment #31: DTG in STL  on  11/03  at  09:09 PM

I was just in Indiana over the weekend for a wedding.

Southern Indiana, where my relatives are from, not Northern Indiana where Democratic Chicago bleeds over.  Reddest of the Red, nearly in Kentucky, Indiana.

I saw Obama/Biden signs. :-O

It’s true, I think there were more McCain signs, but it was like, 15-13.  Nearly even.

In Southern Indiana.  In practically Kentucky Indiana.

I didn’t get tickets to the Grant Park Obama-fest (b/c I missed the email b/c of a vomiting toddler) but I’m debating taking the boy downtown anyway.  There’s supposed to be screens and a staging area for us uninvited, unwashed masses.

I’m getting so excited.  Oh please, let it happen!

I just got my Grant Park tix e-mailed to me moments ago.

I’M SO FREAKING EXCITED!!!!  Gotta get up at 5AM, go vote at 6AM, and make the 5 hour STL to CHI drive right after, hopefully will get in in just enough time to eat lunch and then go stand in line for 8 hours to get onto the field.

It should be amazing!

Comment #33: DTG in STL  on  11/03  at  09:47 PM

Caren—

I hear Obama does very very well in southern Indiana. Maybe they like a fellow Midwesterner.

Comment #34: Ben D.  on  11/03  at  10:25 PM

Obama! Obama!  he’s a rock-star! I love him. I’m hoping for change, and changing for hope, the audacity of it. For the first time in my life I’m proud of my country

Comment #35: Pepper  on  11/03  at  11:00 PM

Hello Obama,

This is Aunt Zeituni, I’m living in a Boston slum on welfare, you said you were youor brothers keeper, but your brother is living in a hut in Kenya. I’m an illegal alien who disregarded immigration laws and I live off the taxpayer now. Will you help me Obama?

Comment #36: Pepper  on  11/03  at  11:09 PM

You know what the best part is?

The trolling?  The nonsensical remarks and drudged-up half-truths?

They won’t win you the election, Pepper.  Enjoy it.

Comment #37: INTPagan  on  11/03  at  11:36 PM

Pepper,

Were you the one who bribed my friend’s 3 month old kitten to chew up his absentee ballot in order to suppress his vote for Obama?

Comment #38: exholt  on  11/03  at  11:51 PM

Pepper, shut the fuck up and go back to whatever far-right slime pit you crawled from.

You and your ilk have lost.  Deal with it, you miserable piece of shit.

Comment #39: Damian  on  11/04  at  12:05 AM

hey Damina:

That was a good discussion we had over at stormfront.org!
Are you coming to weapons practice at the compound on Thursday?

Comment #40: Aryan Bruder  on  11/04  at  12:42 AM

Word in Boston is that Aunt Z didn’t want BO to know she was here, didn’t want his help and didn’t want to make no trouble for him.  He had no idea she was in the US, let alone where.

So much for that bit o’ stupid.

Comment #41: Ms Kate  on  11/04  at  12:45 AM

“He had no idea she was in the US, let alone where. “

But wrote about her in depth in his memoir….after mentioning her name, he said “I have to be my brother keeper”. Obama is in it for his own self interest. All hype, no substance.

You people are being duped.

yea voting as a family outing!

Pepper, shut the fuck up.  Your desperation and hate are showing.

Go back to ScrewedTube and cry to your masses of teenage nobodies who will believe the shit you’re spewing.
