Last night, watching the post-debate punditocracy orgy, the sense I got, overwhelmingly, was that Wednesday was the turning point in this election.
Even the folks from the National Review seemed to think that McCain had gotten his ass whupped in the debate. Even when he actually didn’t and the commentators on the more journalistic end, as opposed to the editorial end, seemed to think it was a draw. The only conclusion I can take from this is that the right-leaning punditocracy is so pissed at McCain that they’re not even willing to do what they usually do for their own guys: lie and act like he pwned the Democrat even when he quite clearly didn’t. In fact they did the opposite. They acted like Obama pwned him, even though honestly the debate was either a draw or a narrow victory for Obama based on the fact that he had a lot less to lose.
McCain has lost even his own butt-lickers at this point, thanks to this “suspending the election” farce (and with a little help from Sarah “Epic Fail” Palin).
I kind of got the sense that suspended meant “we won’t be paying any bills for he duration. If you go ahead and have events, run ads, collect money, or lobby people, you’re doing it on your own. Thanks, but don’t send us a bill. I’ll be with Couric.”

Maybe McCain could take a cue from David Blaine and suspend his campaign over Central Park. On November 4th his campaign could come to its thrilling climax with the “Dive of Death.”

See, we’ve all been misunderstanding him this whole week. He was saying that he need a new pair of suspenders. He was worried his pants would fall down on national television.
