The weakest AFA boycott EVER

Dapper Don Wildmon and Co. have launched a boycott against McDonald’s for being too pro-homosexual. Of course you’d expect a lot of bluster right out of the box, but with this ludicrous disclaimer the AFA is already on the defensive:

What the boycott of McDonald’s IS NOT about

  • This boycott is not about hiring homosexuals.
  • It is not about homosexuals eating at McDonald’s.
  • It is not about how homosexual employees are treated.

The “evidence” presented on the site of the pro-homo agenda is a video of the Golden Arches’  sponsorship of the 2007 S.F. Gay Pride parade.

W-E-A-K. Can you hear the giant flushing sound of the American Family Association’s power as it goes down the crapper?

Jeremy of Good As You gets the scoop:

Yes, that’s right—Like Disney and Ford before them, Mickey D’s has become the latest American corporation to suffer at the baselessly extremist, rabidly anti-gay hands of Don Wildmon Inc.  The McNugget company’s “sin”? The refused to shun Vice President of Communications Richard Ellis for his decision to serve on the Board of Directors of the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC).

::sigh:: If ever there were a reason to eat carbs, gays, this just might be it!

McDonald’s does something that isn’t evil for once. Quick, boycott them!

There are certainly a whole mess of reasons to boycott McDonald’s, but this ain’t one of them.

But ugh. This story has really sucked the magic out of making fun of Don Wildmon. It’s almost like bashing recent Woody Allen movies. The clueless self-indulgence isn’t cute or funny anymore. It’s just sad and a little disturbing.

McDonald’s also donated money to be on the board of the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce.

McDonald’s likes money: we never saw it coming.

I think everyone should boycott McDonalds. I don’t care why the AFA are doing it.

I’m more concerned about how the American Family Association got Heinz to pull an advert showing two men kissing that wasn’t even being broadcast in the US.

I agree, there are several reasons one may want to boycott Mickey Ds but supporting gay PEOPLE isn’t one of them.

Yes, it is.

Aw, a cute gay-hating troll. Somebody didn’t snatch that one for their barbecue. Who is letting the little buggers get out of their marinade again? It’s not a good Fourth without bbq troll.

I DO NOT want to go into one of those places to piss off the AFA. DO NOT.

These boycotts never worked in the past.  Wildman and associates quit their boycott of Ford (it was doing badly enough on its own) when it appeared to have no effect.

Why boycott McDonald’s when you could just quietly stop eating there?

I knew I’d found the right place to live when the neighborhood McDonald’s shut down a couple years ago.  Not because of a boycott or due to demands that they leave the area, but because nobody was eating there anymore.

“These boycotts never worked in the past.”

They almost always pick companies that are so ridiculously enormous and ever-present that there’s no way in hell their boycott will ever be felt.  Of course, the thing you have to remember is that, much like the Bill Donohue bunch, the boycotts aren’t about actually convincing the targeted company to change their ways.  They’re way more about getting the AFA free publicity, spurring donations, and feeding the underlying “zomgays!” mentality that infects their donor pool.  The more of these doomed David-vs-Goliath boycotts you organize against household name brands, the more your target audience starts to feel like there are nefarious gay forces lurking around every corner and infiltrating every aspect of society, and the more responsive they get to anti-gay activism, DOMA initiatives as a GOTV strategy, and calls for grass-roots funding.

OMG homosexual are eating at McDonalds? I had no idea their agenda now included fast food!
Seriously, is a boycott this ridiculous actually going to have an impact? I can never tell these days just how crazy the crazies are.

Sometimes, JaneDoe, the nutters throw out an obvious lunacy just to see who’s paying attention. I think. Not sure. They may well have developed another layer of nuttiness…

And they deny EVOLUTION is real!!! wink

Here’s your proof!
