This bigot wanted to own it - Obama and a noose

Here we go folks, the frustration of the right wing is in full flower. This one has manifested itself specifically as a defense of the hatemongering McCain/Palin crowds, excusing the behavior as equal somehow to anti-Bush or anti-Palin rhetoric out there. Judge for yourself, from “The Libertarian Conservative,” who posted “Enough!” with this image:

The Fucking Solution and “Asphyxiation: a breathless experience.

It was accompanied by equally heinous text, but I didn’t get a screenshot of this call for violence before the racist human garbage proprietor of Political Byline took it down. UPDATE: Glory be—the entire post is preserved up here at Washington Scandal. Read and weep.

BTW, it’s clearly not because he’s sorry:

I never, ever wished any harm come to Obama, at all. I was simply making a point and doing exactly what the left is doing to Sarah Palin. That is all, nothing more to see, move along…

In fact, he’s actually angry that his crosspost at Say Anything was taken down (calling the

moderator

a coward, that’s rich). Look at this - he’s calling this election

a war

:

We’re at war folks, and I intend to fight this war until my dying breath. We’re at war against terrorists that want to destroy this country and everything it stands for and we are war against godless liberals who hate the very values and freedoms that this Nation was founded upon.

I will not submit to a “Political Correct” fascist agenda, which wishes to restrict my freedoms.

You have been warned.

And as for his fellow conservatives, they are simply wimps.

I will not be intimidated by Communist liberals nor Crybaby “politically correct” so-called Conservatives.

This is the America that John McCain and Sarah Palin has unleashed. When will they own it?

The state of the blogosphere conservatives has obviously tossed into disarray; the co-founder of Red State, Joshua Trevino, just blogged that he couldn’t bring himself to vote for McCain at this point (he wrote in Bobby Jindal).

Maryscott O’Connor has more.

And below the fold, a Pennsylvania bigot who also wanted to own it—until the MSM cameras were on him..
Take a look at this footage by Keystoneprogress.org of the idiot with the monkey doll that I posted about yesterday. Here he’s having a grand old time outside the Palin rally.

Waving the monkey doll with the Obama sticker around its head he says “This is little Hussein; little Hussein will deceive truth and good Americans.” (laughs with gusto). He then waves and taunts protestors at the Johnstown, PA Palin rally with the monkey.

Later, this bigot wasn’t nearly as boastful when he noticed that the MSM was videotaping him, then he took the sticker off. Too late, you SOB.

You know, the question I have is what are these people going to do if Obama wins? That scares me.

H/t Fritz, who found some additional knee-slappers from the Base.

That fist inage has left me feeling a little shaky.  Physically weak.  I mean, wow.

And Joe Scarborough is on TV right now talking about how it is so unfair that McCain supporters are gathering some outrage at their calls to violence, because in his mind somehow there is an equivalent going on on the left.  As if that is even possible.  What could someone say about McCain that would be equivalent to posting that noose picture, or shouting “kill him” about a progressive black leader in a country with the history of assassinations that we have.

I’m speachless.

Comment #1: GumbyAnne  on  10/13  at  07:50 AM

That first sentence is supposed to begin “That first image.”

I really meant it when I said I was shaking.  I can’t even type.

I’m tellin’ ya, it’s all that performance artist Amanda was talking about. What a career!

Comment #3: atheist  on  10/13  at  07:53 AM

Jesus Christ, why don’t they just put on their sheets and white hoods and be done with it? Because that’s what they are, so fucking own it.

And anybody who tries to bring up that false equivalency crap with me is getting an earful. Never in my life have I been as fed up with the “both sides do it!” lie as I am right now.

Comment #4: Bella  on  10/13  at  07:55 AM

I think some of this rage comes from the fact that moderate rascists are realising they’ve been duped. After years of dismissing more violent rascists as fanatics when they complained about blacks taking over, because they believed the line that the U.S was too rascist to ever elect a black President, they’ve suddenly realised that the U.S isn’t that rascist after all, and their complacency will lead to their worst nightmare coming true.

They’ve been fooled, and it’s embarassment as well as fear that’s driving the reaction.

Comment #5: Porter  on  10/13  at  07:59 AM

Don’t you think this guy could really face some legal consequences?  If that is not a clear call to violence I don’t know what is.  Don’t we have some sort of hate speech laws for things this over the top?  I am not real up on the laws so maybe one of you can enlighten me.

Comment #6: GumbyAnne  on  10/13  at  08:03 AM

Anyone think that guy from Political Byline is going to get arrested for making a terroristic threat against a presidential candidate? Anyone? Bueller? Hell, I reckon, the Secret Service and FBI are under Cheney’s orders to dive the other way.

Maybe after Obama’s elected, we can start investigating domestic terrorism, too.

Comment #7: Scott  on  10/13  at  08:08 AM

I dunno, I think if the government starts arresting people who criticise Obama at this stage(no matter what the actual details of the charges were) people will start taking to the hills, sandbagging their garages, buying more guns, etc.

There is a difference between CRITICIZING someone and making DEATH THREATS against someone.  The fact that anyone could confuse the two makes my heart sink.

Comment #10: GumbyAnne  on  10/13  at  08:30 AM

Oh, GumbyAnne, people who yell “Kill him!” and create advertisements with nooses explicitly wishing for the presidential candidate to be killed are really making legitimate criticisms. They’re just criticizing him for not being dead already.

But when hockey fans boo Sarah Palin, that’s worse than the Holocaust.

Comment #11: Scott  on  10/13  at  08:34 AM

Silly Scott - that’s because they booed Sarah Palin’s six-year-old!  She just, you know, happened to be there, too.  I mean, all those signs at protests say “Palin,” and her daughter has that name, too.  (As a mother, I’m deeply offended that she took her kids as a shield, and I felt so sorry for the kid I was almost in tears watching.  That was incredibly low of her to do that.)

I am growing less and less surprised at incredibly racist images and themes that come up.  The sad thing is that I’m afraid that someone crazy (like my uncle) is going to take it (gasp!) seriously and try to take Obama out.  He said that Obama is a Muslim, and that if my mom voted for him he would kick her ass, to which I replied that his Marine niece is voting for Obama and that she would kick the shit out of him if he threatened bodily harm on my mom again.  (He’s a freeper-ish fellow.)  He meant business, but so did I.

These people scare me.

Comment #12: INTPagan  on  10/13  at  08:43 AM

Any threat to the life of the president is serious business and needs to be prosecuted. Anyone remember the great ‘burning Bush’ prosecution of the guy in a bar reportedly talking about GHW Bush? The media reports, sketchy at best, said that he was in a bar somewhere and kept saying something about the ‘burning bush’ and ‘41’ and that was enough. I think he got life for ‘threatening the life of ex-President Bush’.

The Bushist Justice Department should prosecute these idiots the same way they are prosecuting the alleged voter fraud cases against the groups helping those that really should be able to vote but being the ‘Bushist Justice Department’, the very idea that they would stand up to their racist and morally vacant base is quite humorous.

The Bushies have been playing the fear and ignorance of this sub-human sub-group for decades and more. Keep the heat on but not too much so it boils over. Well, someone forgot that McCain has Alzheimer’s and Palin is just a rude and ruthless political hack who loves to step on all the little people and thinks that her destiny is to be president to usher in the second coming.

Comment #13: PinkyLeftBrain  on  10/13  at  09:02 AM

Has anyone made the point (or tried to make the point) that these threats on Obama’s life are like college pranks and are totally harmless in the same way that the pictures of tortured prisoners under US custody in Abu Ghraib were just ‘college pranks’?

That ‘liberal’ media… Liberal with the bullshit…

We’re at war folks, and I intend to fight this war until my dying breath.

We can hope.

Here’s the Pollyanna take: The willingness (compulsion?) of self-described “conservatives” to present themselves as hateful and deranged is a big reason that Obama is doing so well.

McCain isn’t calling Obama “a decent man” because McC’s a nice guy; he’s doing it because he knows that their antics—and his apparent support of it—disgusts most voters.

It’s all the better these people are coming out and showing what they really are.  We, the rest of the society, need to see this.  Racism isn’t dead.  It’s not a thing of the past and until America’s collective is rubbed in the fact we won’t start dealing with it.  As ugly and sickening as most of this in the end, it’s what we need.  People need to see how extreme the republican party has become (or really, always was).

“I dunno, I think if the government starts arresting people who criticise Obama at this stage(no matter what the actual details of the charges were) people will start taking to the hills, sandbagging their garages, buying more guns, etc.”

...interesting.  My understanding is those so inclined are already buying guns, etc., and there is no hint of anybody being held responsible for what they’ve said about Obama.  In fact, as it stands right now, there doesn’t seem to be much one can say about Obama that will get you in trouble, no matter how threatening or incendiary.

But every single day there’s whining about what those horrible, insane, people on the Left say about Palin and McCain.

Just more IOKIYAR…

Comment #20: MikeEss  on  10/13  at  10:03 AM

Is there a ‘cure’ for racism? I find myself longingly looking at the utopian society in Star trex the Next Generation and wondering if humanity can ever get there.

You can’t legislate beauty and you can’t legislate intelligence. I believe that racism dwells in the land of ignorance and hostility. You can’t stop people from thinking bad thoughts but that does not mean that we have to live with it.

I love the movie Forbidden Planet. It was made in 1956 and starred a large number of actors that would go on to much larger stardom. The one thing that gets me about that movie is that the ‘Krell’ (that you never see in the movie) that were so advanced, so technologically gifted, so smart were actually mental infants. They, as the plot device, developed a way to materialize thought. They forgot the ‘mindless primitive’, the Id. I can see the entire race being consumed in the matter of days by their own inner hatred and the inner anger, burning in the subconscious.

Is humanity doomed to consume itself in the illogic and stupidity of its self hatred? Apparently.

IF humans can get beyond this defect then we have a future. The colour of a man’s skin ultimately has no more importance than the colour of his eyes. A very wise man uttered those words in song. We need to take it to heart and live by it. Can we…

I will not submit to a “Political Correct” fascist agenda, which wishes to restrict my freedoms.

Tim Russo at Blogger Interrupted:

I wonder why it took bloggers surrounding McCain-Palin events with video cameras for America to see the truth behind the McCain-Palin supporters?  Was it REALLY this hard to see these people for what they are?  Was it REALLY this difficult to put these bigots on camera?

Of course it was always this difficult.  Which is to say -

IT WASN’T DIFFICULT AT ALL.

All you had to do was point a camera at these people.  And they will happily show you their bigotry.  In their dozens, in their hundreds, and In their thousands.

And it is a damn shame that it took mobilized bloggers across the country to do just that, when there are union-scale paycheck-fattened “journalists”, escorted to and from these events in their own private jet, paid for by the campaigns, fed by the campaigns, given preferred seating by the campaigns, following these campaigns every single day.  Not one of them bothered to do what an army of mobilized bloggers will now do, every day, until November 4.

It’s been said before, but how can you take someone seriously who conflates fascism, communism, and Islamic extremism? I understand them screaming that Obama is a socialist. There is at least some coherence there. It’s usually accompanied by a complete ignorance of socialism or the knowledge that most of the developed world has socialist leanings. It’s the natural order of things for the right to yell pinko while the left yells fascist.  But, it just shows divorced they are from honest discourse in combining all of the major external threats America has faced in the last six decades into one extra evil super threat supported by the Democratic party. It just reinforces the fact that you cannot treat these people as good faith actors. They are despicable liars who will say and do anything to win.

Seriously, a threat with a noose is equivalent to booing someone at a hockey game!? Jesus, I cannot see getting upset if Obama or Biden were booed, especially at a hockey game. It’s really not a big deal. Boo away bitches. It’s still a free country despite the best conservative efforts.

Maybe if we’re very, very good, and ask Santa nicely?

Nah, there ain’t enough good in the world for that to come true.

So what are they going to do if Obama wins? The vast majority will go directly back to what they were doing when Clinton was in office—Obama Death Lists, New World Order, black helicopters, deranged paranoia and racism in full flower. Some of them will immediately turn violent—if there’s any comfort in that, it’s that they may immediately end up discrediting the entire reborn Patriot Movement in the eyes of both the public, the government, the press, and the few remaining sane Republicans.

I was thinking about that too.  I went to an Obama rally a couple weeks ago, and he was very well-protected.  The chances of some nut attacking him are low.  Anyway, considering the kind of cowardice shown in this video, I think it’s much more likely that a whackjob who hates the Obamas of the world will go after a more defenseless target.  This is something that the Obama administration, I think, should prepare for.

It’s pretty rare for someone to actually get arrested for something like this, but I guarantee you that he has had (or will have) several agents in dark suits whose sense of humor has been surgically removed asking him many questions down at the local FBI office.

Comment #43: MikeEss  on  10/13  at  02:29 PM

From AP:

The Secret Service confirmed Friday that it had investigated an episode reported in The Washington Post in which someone in Palin’s crowd in Clearwater, Fla., shouted “kill him,” on Monday, meaning Obama. There was “no indication that there was anything directed at Obama,” Secret Service spokesman Eric Zahren told AP. “We looked into it because we always operate in an atmosphere of caution.”

I don’t know what “anything directed at Obama” means exactly. I’m going to assume it means actual threats to his safety, and not just verbal threats, which obviously were directed at him. Take it for what it is.

Comment #44: penn  on  10/13  at  02:41 PM

The Secret Service was ‘tainted’ by years of Reagan and Bush I before Clinton was in office. Their job is to protect POTUS (among others); they really don’t care much who POTUS is as far as carrying out that mission. Assassination = EPIC FAIL.

Yeah, “sub-human” = fail. It’s what the noose picture is trying to do, and it doesn’t get any better if it’s directed at someone else.

“Violent, racist thugs with no ounce of honor” works, though. It is fucking sad and enraging when someone can post in favour of lynching and then claim they weren’t being racist, oh no.

Instead, apply yourself toward making at as decisive for Obama as is possible. If you’re not in a swing state, then talk to some local Democrats, and get on a bus to a nearby state that is in play. Or sign up here, and just find some events in your area. Fuck theorizin’. It’s time for action.

Comment #57: atheist  on  10/13  at  08:30 PM

The stupid, it burns!

Where to begin with the “Libertarian Paleo-Conservative”?

1) Grow a pair. Your chance of being hurt by terrorists is less than being hit by a meteorite or struck by lightning - get over it (Odd that I seem to have missed the War On Meteors and the War On Lightning). Before going all My Lai on the nation, perhaps you should rationally consider the threat?  The chances of bronze age fundamentalists overthrowing the country are very slim - Muslim fundamentalists, anyway.  The Christian flavor may yet destroy the country from within.

2)  “I’m not a racist”.  Go ahead, pull the other one.

3) “Libertarian”.  You keep using that word.  I don’t think it means what you think it means.

Hard to say what’s stupider - that one thinks killing a Presidential candidate will save the nation, or that one thinks the nation needs saving from Islamic Fundamentalist Waahbi wackaloons.

KLH, then you need to decide who DOES represent you, because this is what you’ve got, whether it’s more subtle or outright like this.  This is something I’ve been saying to my conservative friends.  You’re seeing the real face behind the people you support, and, even if they don’t say it outright, perhaps you should take some time and question why these are the majority of the people who seem to vocally support your chosen politicians.

It’s not so nice to see such an ugly face on the base of conservatives, is it?

“That image of Obama with the noose is sick and doesn’t represent conservatism.”

So now idiot tries the “No True Conservative” strategy…

My spouse (who is, God help me, a Boomer) likes to snicker about the Communists he knew in grad school. I mean the type of people who would talk about The Revolution with a straight face. Naturally, when the Berlin wall came down and the USSR broke up, all they could talk about, hands a-waving, was how that wasn’t real Communism, so it didn’t count, and anyway the fact that they had strayed from the path of real Communism was precisely why it failed.

I wonder if some of those people aren’t now the David Horowitzes of the world, flapping their hands as they explain why real conservative thought would not have led us to this mess.
