This Is Why We Can’t Let Those People Take Over

RaceVoting

Apparently, black people are standing at a predominantly black polling location to intimidate black people into voting for a black guy.  Or something.

This shocking turn of events (a couple of assholes apparently show up to stand around and look like assholes) is, to absolutely nobody’s shock and/or awe, being used to prove that SCARY BLACK PANTHERS are being MEAN and BLACK and SOMEHOW RELEVANT.  Rush Limbaugh does some crack on-a-different-spot reporting with a guy who’s desperately trying to prove how much of a man he is:

What I appreciate most about this is the thinly-veiled insinuation that this is the grand plan of Obamaism, a liberal fascist move to send two people to one polling place in a heavily Democratic area and have them stand around and be interviewed by conservative white people who then run away and talk about how awesome it was - they could almost taste the grape drink!

They do seem to be assholes, but one of those assholes is apparently a certified poll watcher…who lives in that building.

Sure the rightwing hysteria is o ut of control on this, but it is legitimately disturbing to see that they’d be allowed to stand that close to the polling place and be obviously intimidating.

There are still Black Panthers?  I thought that whole thing dissolved in the 1970s.

New Black Panthers.  Like New Coke.

People need to just relax and let the sweet, sweet negrosity flow over them.

Sure, it hurts a little at first, but after a while you forget about the pain and really enjoy it…

Oh, you’re talking about polls/voting…never mind…

Uhhh, wait, were they just bitching about the public display of a nightstick, which you “can’t do,” even though they’re the huge lovers of displayed firearms?

Shabazz (leader of NBPP in Philly) doesn’t even like Obama, so….wtf are those guys doing there?

Wow, their capacity for projection never fails to amaze me.  Everything they’re attributing to the scary organized black conspiracy is stuff Republicans are currently doing.

Sean Hannity said forty minutes ago that he had problems at the polling place today - his voter registration had been purged!

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Something else here that’s interesting. The audio of the guy being interviewed is actually from Fox News. If you go to this link and scroll down, you’ll see two videos. The first one is of the guy being interviewed, and the second is of his encounter with the “Panthers”. His description of the encounter doesn’t quite match up with what’s in the video he himself took. For one thing, he tells the interviewer “I’m an Army veteran, that doesn’t scare me”, but in at the beginning of his own video, you can hear him nervously say to someone, “Dude, got my back?”

What I find interesting is that he’s ‘intimidating’ voters by, you know, saying he’s here to make sure racists don’t stop blacks from voting…

I’m guessing the only intimidation this guy is doing is being black (and *proud* of it too, the nerves!) near a voting poll.

The New Black Panthers (a tiny number) in Philly are nothing like the Black Panthers of old (I wish they did a fraction of the social programs that the old Panthers ran), so we shouldn’t conflate them.  It is just like them to grand-stand, get press coverage and give fodder to the wingnuts.  They confuse looking and acting tough and saying provocative shit with get-your-hands-dirty action and organizing in the community.

And why is nobody talking about the real scandal here in Philly - new voters (mostly young and African American) not on precinct lists????

Courtesy of Ta-Nehisi Coates, whom I adore, here’s a vision of what they’re really afraid of:

Kathy is right.  The NBPP in Philly is mostly centered in West Philadelphia and has little real following.  Many of them are friends with the

Another group to keep your eye on in the city is the Keystone State Skinheads.  They have members in Northeast and South Philly, and recently had a rally 100 people strong (big for a racist gathering).  They probably won’t do anything at the polls, but post-voting violence is sure to include them.  Keith Carney is especially one to lock down tonight, because he’s got an upcoming trial for weapons and assault charges and (because of previous race-based violence) will probably see lengthy jail time.

www.onepeoplesproject.com - Daryle Jenkins and the Philadelphia-based OPP are a good source to watch for updates on racial tension following the vote.

The other thing Fox doesn’t seem to be mentioning—this was happening in a predominantly black neighborhood by a crazy guy who doesn’t want black people to vote in “white” elections.

If Fox News just ran with a story about black voters being intimidated into not voting, I will laugh my ass off.

Comment #16: Mnemosyne  on  11/04  at  08:36 PM

Maybe what happened is they saw all the ugly suburb-esque housing units built there in the middle of one of America’s largest urban areas, and figured it was a white suburb.

(That neighborhood just north of Center City, while new, is one of the most out of place and ugly areas of the city)

I saw the video today on Fox with the black thugs standing outside the polling place with billie-clubs..

Obama-Nation here we come.  Stay true to da race homes.

Comment #18: Pepper  on  11/04  at  09:30 PM

Pepper, a little favor?

Could you just go ahead and get in your bunker and shut the door behind you?  That would be really great…

...unless you have a computer with Internet access there, in which case you have to destroy the computer and rip out the wires providing your access.  We wouldn’t want you catching a bad computer virus — you need to stay healthy to repopulate the earth after Blackazoid and his evil minions destroy all the white people…

(Pssst!  Everybody wait for Pepper to leave and then we can happily live our lives without further wingnut lunacy…spread the word…)

John McCain is blaming the Black Panthers as well:
