TN: ‘Family Values’ state senator in sex and blackmail scandal

Did I mention that Senator Paul Stanley was a Republican? I'm certain that goes without saying now, the list of Republican Sexual Hypocrites is so damn long.

Anyway, in Tennessee, the very pious "opposite married" social conservative evangelical Christian state legislator with two children started knocking boots with his 23-year-old intern and well, her boyfriend found out about it and blackmailed the not-too-bright pol. What did he find that shriveled Stanley's boyz in terror? (Nashville Scene):

According to court documents, here's what happened: Stanley, who is married with two children, was accused of having an affair with a 22-year-old legislative intern, McKensie Morrison, by the woman's boyfriend. The boyfriend, Joel Palmer Watts. 28, discovered a computer memory disc with sexually explicit photographs of Morrison that appeared to have been taken in Stanley's apartment. Watts then blackmailed Stanley, demanding $10,000 in return for keeping quiet.

"Releasing the photographs to individuals or the media would cause embarrassment, both professionally and personally, to Stanley," according to the court affidavit, as if we needed an explanation for why this might pose a small problem for our family values champion.

While this sounds like a garden-variety Republican Sexual Hypocrite, Stanley takes it up a notch with his legislative CV: 1) he campaigned against the right of gays and lesbians to adopt ("When you're married, there's a commitment there," Stanley said last year, while discussing legislation to prohibit gay people from adopting children); and….drum roll…2) he introduced a bill prohibiting viewing porn while driving (WTF!? Is this some kind of rampant problem in Tennessee?)

Anyway, Stanley, caught with his pants down on camera and on digital media, went to the Tennesee Bureau of Investigation told them what was up and a sting was set up for Watts.

“While in this relationship, Watts discovered that Morrison was engaged in a sexual relationship with Paul Stanley. Watts discovered a memory disc with explicit photographs of Morrison. These photographs appeared to be taken in Stanley's apartment.

On April 9, 2009, Watts again contacted Stanley via text messages and demanded that Stanley meet him and pay him the money. Subsequently, a controlled delivery of $10,000 was organized and made to Watts. The delivery was made behind a El Rey Azteca Mexican restaurant, located in Whites Creek, Davidson County, Tenn.

..."When Watts arrived, he and Stanley exchanged the memory disc for the $10,000.00. Watts was taken into custody at that time. During a subsequent interview, Watts admitted to demanding the money from Stanley."

TBI agent Doug Long testified there were nude pictures of Stanley's intern, McKensie Morrison, of her posing "in provocative positions and poses." And it looks like Stanley, who has resigned as chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee in the wake of the scandal, was paying a bit of hush money in his office, based on this AP report.

Connie Ridley, director of legislative administration, says Morrison was assigned to Stanley's office but stopped being paid her weekly $350 stipend after the senator reported that she had stopped coming to work beginning on April 17. That would have been after this all blew up in Stanley's face.

BTW, this hypocrite Stanley told NewsChannel 5 that he will continue his social conservative legislative agenda.

No, but given the usual dictum about social conservatives it likely was a rampant problem for Stanley himself. Not only is this creep a hypocrite, but probably also a menace to the drivers of TN.

I’m trying to figure out if the problem is porn on you iPhone while driving or playing porn on the minivan’s DVD that you take your kids to soccer practice in.

Why change the curtains just cause you get a little shmutz on it?  I mean, it’s nice to have a sanctimonious bastard who doesn’t get caught with his wick wet in another woman when you’re pushing the homophobic agenda.  But it’s not necessary.  I’m sure this guy plays his cards right, he’ll be rooming on C-street with his fellow ideologues Senator Ensign and Governor Sanford in no time.

Pam:

From previous reports, the no-porn-in-the-car law is ostensibly so that your kids can’t be peeping at another car’s DVD player while you’re stuck in traffic and then be exposed to the Horror of Horrors.

If the van’s rocking, consider yourself under arrest.

Haven’t got time to follow this closely—though of course a Southern GOPer’s going to be a sanctimonious, hypocritical bastard—but here’s his page of sponsored bills:

Of course he did. They just put a confused face on and say “Why shouldn’t we demand you live under this agenda just because we can’t live up to it ourselves?” It’s gotten to where they really mean it too.

This has become so common that it’s hardly even news anymore.  Wouldn’t it be easier to just assume that all wingnuts are involved in sexual scandals, and then report about the ones who actually aren’t?  Also, why are these people dumb enough to take pictures in the first place?

The amazing thing about this story is that the nitwit boyfriend only asked for $10K in his blackmail scheme.  For a juicy scandal like this you can start the bidding at $100K minimum.

I’d have a hard time believing people view porn while driving, except for a story an entrpeneurial cousin-in-law told me.  He knew some rich guys that like to golf, drink beer and watch porn, all at the same time.  So the cousin builds a souped golf cart with built-in cooler, flat screen TV and a DVD player.  He sold that one and took orders for a dozen more.

Of course he’s going to continue his socially consertative agenda, those rules are for little people.

. .  . introduced a bill prohibiting viewing porn while driving

So, aside from everything else, he thinks working cops have nothing better to do all day than check on this sort of BS. Seriously, how did he envision this idiocy being enforced?

I see he also introduced legislation to prevent cohabiting straight couples from adopting. Sanctity and stability of marriage, woo.

Countdown until Fox put a (D) after his name: 5, 4, 3…

Here’s another politician for which the following song is appropriate, especially if he decides to use Mark Sanford’s “It’s true love” line…. LOL

As Jon Stewart famously noted, it’s another conservative Republican with a liberal penis.

Hate the sin, love the sinner.  It was all Satan’s fault!  Besides, let he who is without sin cast the first stone and all that.

Being Born Again means never having to say you’re sorry, because Jesus already died for your sins.

Of course he will.  That agenda isn’t for him to follow, silly.  It’s for the rest of us.

One would have thought that this guy, with all he has to lose, would have just paid 10K to avoid being outed as an adulterer.

I’ll have two big flat ones, five little sharp ones and a bag of gravel.

Gays can’t adopt because there’s no committment to marry, and gays can’t marry because wingnuts commit to preventing them from marrying.

Got it?

‘Cause “opposite marriage” is sacred, except to Republican politicians.

*Applies only to conservatives.

In developing news related to this:

* Stanley is on his 2nd marriage.  His first marriage ended with accusations of abuse & included a restraining order.

* His 2nd wife was working as an intern in his office - shortly after his first marriage broke up.

Ah, good ole Tennessee boys (read: rednecks)!

Every day I smile thinking about how I got the fuck out of that shithole. Now if I could just get my parents to move…
