Next entry: Free As A Bird…A Sick, Wheezing, Uninsured Bird Previous entry: Then again, depends on how you define sensitive

Two important things you can do

Go to one of the town halls listed here and, when you’re there, remember the advice listed here. If you know the local organizers of your specific town hall, make especially sure they have a copy of that second link. Item #10 is particularly important.

Don’t let anti-Americans (and yes, those against health care reform, wishing harm upon the people of this country, are indeed anti-Americans. The rhetoric may be overwrought and familiar from the other side, but I nevertheless mean every word) like these douchebags win:

Sadly, I haven’t found a town hall yet within 100 miles of me, but I’ll be watching that calendar.

Check the websites of your Congress Critter and Senators.  Being as it is August there will be one near you soon.

There appears to be exactly one in Michigan.  It doesn’t list a time, and the address is incorrect.  This is not a promising start.

Sadly, one of the recent “wins” for these teabagging fucknozzles in terms of media exposure was at a townhall held last week by the staff of my state’s Democratic US Senator, Claire McCaskill.

And while I applaud the likes of Ed Schultz, Rachel Maddow, and Keith Olbermann for calling out these astroturfing lobbyist driven asshole shills for who they actually are, I find myself throwing up in my mouth when I see Chris Matthews analyzing the same videos and talking about the greatness of democracy and describing these neanderthal goons as if they are just a grassroots driven group of salt-of-the-earth everyday average folks expressing their views.

Not to mention Faux News going into full-on RNC propaganda mode (I realize of course, that this is par for the course for Rupert’s little Goebbels proteges) promoting attendance by Teabaggers at these events on behalf of Freedomworks et al.

If there should be another such event in my area anytime soon, I’ll be sure to attend, and hopefully will get to relate my own personal recent nightmare experience of actually having insurance, assuming I’m good to go, and then getting it hit with a claim denial and a $16,000 hospital bill for no good reason at all.  I know firsthand how much it sucks to watch bureaucrats get in between me and my healthcare providers… namely, the greedy swine profit-driven asshole burueacrats who work for United Healthcare.

Has Chris Matthews always been a Blue Dog or is he getting worse?

asdf: yes.

Democracy means dialogue and conversation.  Anyone trying to shut down the conversation is harming democracy.  Protests in the streets are one thing, disrupting townhalls is quite another.

Don’t know if it qualifies as a ‘Townhall’ but I was at a healthcare rally in downtown Chicago yesterday (Federal Plaza). There were about 300 pro-healthcare folks, and about 30 Tea Baggers on the other side of the street holding up nasty signs (one called us “Traitor Rats”) and yelling nasty things. The Rally had a lot of local politicians, including Rep. Jan Schakowski (IL-9) and Governor Pat Quinn, and also a lot of pro-Health-Reform activists. All of the pols and activists spoke well, and some spoke excellently, powerfully. The police, which are a ubiquitous presence at rallies in Chicago, seemed to focus on separating the “Tea Baggers” from the rest of the crowd.

So if it was the “Tea Baggers’ ” intention to anger the pro-Healthcare folks I think they succeeded, but if it was their intention to shut down the rally, or put us off-balance, or stop us from speaking, I think they failed miserably. The only frustrating part was pointed out by some of the more left-wing types who said that Single-Payer isn’t even talked about anymore.

I think we could also rig up some parody asshole protests ... difficult in the age of self-parody teabaggers, sure, but it might be worth it to boil their arguements down for them.  Carry signs saying “I got mine, to hell with you!” and “what good is money if it doesn’t mean that my kids live and yours die?”.

Joe Biden will be in downtown Detroit TODAY to promote health care. So Jesse, if you’re reading this, I don’t think the anti-American racists have enough courage to show up in Detroit but I could be wrong. We still need folks to be there to speak truth to power if they do.

How about going to the Republican townhalls and start yelling “I have no insurance!”

OR…

“How’s YOUR Government Insurance working for YOU, Congressperson/Senator?”

How about going to the Republican townhalls and start yelling “I have no insurance!”

Announcing to a bunch of crazies that if they beat me up they get to cripple me physically AND financially isn’t my idea of a safe way to protest…

and yes, that’s coming from the guy whose nick is BlackBloc.

There is one close to my house next weekend for Danny Davis from the west side of Chicago, so I doubt too many teabaggers will attend.  I’ll try to attend and see what he has to say.  The kickoff event is only about a mile from my house and is at 10.  The townhall itself is a few miles south, so I wonder if he has a March planed.

For anyone on Oahu, Hawaii Free Press has alisting of Neil Abercrombie’s town hall schedule on health care in the next few weeks. Tonight he’s at Aliamanu Middle School in Salt Lake. State Rep. Glenn Wakai will also be there.

And for those who want a state-by-state breakdown of how many people stand to gain healthcare coverage through reform, go to http://www.familiesusa.org and look for the <a href=“http://www.familiesusa.org/assets/pdfs/health-reform/coverage-for-america.pdf”> report (opens in pdf). Good stuff.
