Next entry: When you take two innocuous words and put them together: OMG THE CHILDREN!!! Previous entry: Too little, too late for The Valley Club

Well, when you put it like that

The Women’s Media Center put together a devastating video showing how much the “criticism” against Sotomayor is just dredging up fears about white men losing complete dominance over the official seats of power.

Please click the link and rate the video.  The comments at YouTube are swarming with people who are trying to turn the word “racist” into a slur that you apply to people who don’t think that white people are better than everyone else.

I don’t know… trying to engage in comment fights on youtube posts is about as appealing (and almost as productive) as licking a light socket, no matter how worthwhile the video is.

Yeah, I wouldn’t do the comments, but a rating so they can’t sink it would be nice.

good point.

I agree with jamie d. YouTube commenters are notoriously awful.

Personally, I can’t decide which dude in the video is the biggest horse’s ass.

Lenina, for horse-assery Limbaugh’s vacuum-cleaner crack in the context of calling someone else a racist is pretty hard to top.

For me Dennis Miller wins the BHA award in a walk.  I can’t believe I used to like that creep.

The four finalists were all women, so therefore it must be an “affirmative action” pick?  Now, I definitely believe that Obama wanted to appoint a woman and therefore did so.  However, if the four finalists were all men, there would be nothing remarkable about that at all, would there?  I’m sure the feminists would say something about it, only to be laughed at and told that they were just the most talented and its surely a coincidence that none of them were women.  Probably by the same complaining jackass(es) in the video.

Pat Robertson having a fit b/c none of the final four were men—that means the best weren’t considered.  B/c there’s no way that the best man comes in 5th.

My high school started out all boy.  It went co-ed in 77, and the boys were so looking forward to it…till the girls showed up and were competition.  My class valedictorians both had taken every possible honors class and aced everything.  Neither one was male.  I’m sure affirmative action must have fit in there somewhere, b/c it’s not like these girls were smart or scholarly or studied or anything.

Seriously, Uncle Pat gets the BHA award just for that.  For being unable to believe that women are more qualified than men.

Commenters on YouTube who have too f’n much time on their hands are awful because they are a loser subset of humanity and they damn well know it.

One more note: the old white men - the ones who take polygamy child brides, the ones who steal medication while saying drug addicts should be executed, the ones who send mostly young men off on adventure wars - they love to get young men worked up over the notion that feminist women want them all to die and want to enslave them.

This, of course, distracts from the reality that these older conservative men in power would love to enslave or cannon-fodder those same young men without their decisions being questioned.

I forget which blogger spelled it out, but when you’re looking for a SCOTUS pick you have a lot of candidates to choose from.  The idea that there is “one” magically correct choice, definitively superior to all others, is asinine in its simplicity.  We have nine justices on the bench because we don’t honestly believe that one single guy is the be-all, end-all of legal wisdom.

You can call Sotomayor’s Latina women-ness factoring in to her selection as racism and sexism all you want.  But the court is woefully lacking in Latina women.  The political reality is that Obama owed his hispanic and female constituencies for his boost into Office.  She’s a down payment on future votes from those sectors.

The fact that Bush decided two middle-aged white guys were the creme-de-la-creme of the judiciary doesn’t say anything about the superiority/inferiority of old white dudes.  It just reveals the political ineptness of the previous White House Decider.  Bush could have nominated Miers and Gonzales to the bench.  Sandra Day O’Conner was a serious political coup for the Republican woman’s vote.  Instead, he went back to the oldest of old wells and he reaped the same old votes from the same old rump base for his troubles.  Who really benefited from the Roberts / Alito pick that wouldn’t have gained just as much from a minority/woman winger on the bench?

Sessions and company are playing a losing political game, a legacy of their former Dear Leader.

Don’t feel too bad. A lot of us drank his Kool-Aid. Like Red Sox fans and Roger Clemens.

I know I shouldn’t be on a logical level, but still—the “menst-RU-ation” comments positively stunned me sideways.

Wait, Dennis Miller is considered funny? He even fails at basic non-political humor!

Comment #14: Daniel-138  on  07/15  at  02:24 PM

I rated the video then ranked some comments.  I feel like I need a brain enema.

Dennis Miller used to be different.
