First we lose Fannie Lewis, now we might lose Stephanie too.  Dammit.

I’m a constituent, not a family member, but I’m pretty shaken.  Great person, great representative.  She’s also a voter mobilization powerhouse here in Cuyahoga County, and especially in light of the Dimora/Russo meltdown, we need her more than ever.

Fannie Lewis will be missed.

According to a post most of the way down, she has been pronounced dead (life support was asked to be removed a while ago.) RIP.

The Plain Dealer’s reporting her death as well.  Damn, damn, damn.

R.I.P., will be missed.

CNN is now reporting that they were wrong and she is still on life support. We may not know what’s actually going on for a few hours.

It’s bad news either way. She’s good people.

She’s died. RIP, Stephanie.

Ok, NOW they’re saying she’s not dead, but in extremely critical condition.  Courtesy of the Plain Dealer, which you can follow at http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/

Oh no. .. Just… oh no…
my condolences.

She’s definitely alive, but critical. CNN just showed a press conference where one of the hospital administrators spoke about her condition.

I hope she recovers quickly.

I really have zero medical knowledge. What’s the usual prognosis for this?

What’s the usual prognosis for this?

An aneurysm is a weak spot in a blood vessel, usually where one blood vessel forks into two. Constant pumping weakens the spot further; eventually it may burst. Normally you would operate and seal it off. But the doc said it was inaccessible. So, sounds bad.

Thanks, Hector B.

So, what can we do? I’m going to email the networks and ask them to cover her record in more detail, so that the story for viewers is more substantive than “some black congresswoman from Ohio is near death.” They could make the story more meaningful by covering her legislative accomplishments, as it gives a picture of who she is, what she’s about, what she’s done for America.

What else?

Comment #13: Grammar RWA  on  08/20  at  05:44 PM

I don’t know what national news has said on it, but they’ve been covering it pretty extensively here in Cleveland. She was pronounced dead at 6:12 PM. Here’s a blip from one of our local channels.

Damn shame.
