Next entry: DADT: thoughts about ‘non-sexual bonding’ and refraining from the happy dance Previous entry: I wish this was over, but it’s not

Why do freepers hate America and its military commanders?!?! Oh noes!1101

With Peter Sprigg of the Family Research Council going on Hardball to declare that homosexuality needs to be recriminalized (overturning Lawrence v. Texas) in the wake of getting the bad news that Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Michael Mullen (and now General Colin Powell and even a tepid Orrin Hatch) said Don’t Ask Don’t Tell needs to go, you knew there would be a Freeper explosion.

And yes, the gloves come off in a primal scream of terror as these knuckledraggers cover their privates, worrying about dropping soap in the shower. Where were all these Freepers when heterosexual enlisted men were raping their female peers? Oh wait, they don’t want women in there either…

WHY DO FREEPERS HATE AMERICA AND ITS MILITARY COMMANDERS?!?! OH NOES!1101

I’ve linked to the Google cache just in case the thread “disappears.” See the misogyny and paranoia run wild. It’s beyond laughable. They know their side is going down in the long run, no pun intended.

Actual Freeper Quotes

Easy to say General Mullen when you don’t have to bunk or shower with these individuals.

”... it is wrong to force people to “lie about who they are in order to defend their fellow citizens.”

So - Mike Mullen agrees with Congressman Joe Sestak. Who knew?

you cannot defend your fellow citizens when you are preoccupied with having swordfights in the showers. Eww, I just grossed myself out. This article reeks of leftist politics. No military man in his rigfht mind would approve of gutting the military, which is exactly what this amounts to.

What happened to the rights of “straights” to privacy?

I urge everyone to call their Senator and Congressional Representative TODAY!! Everyone I know in the military is outraged at Obama’s attempt to inject active homosexuality into the barracks and showers of the armed forces. Here we go again with another Dem idiot trying to social engineer the military.

But forcing people to accept this societal abomination is just honky dory? The military has lost its bearings. It is adopting self destructive polices and behaviors.

“Our diversity, not only in our Army, but in our country, is a strength. And as horrific as this tragedy was, if our diversity becomes a casualty, I think that’s worse,” Casey said

I fear too many of our higher-ranking officers appear to have been selected for their PC-compatibility rather than for their military competence. . .

If the ban is lifted homosexuals will flock to the military and overrun it and have the full force of military law behind them, the military will be theirs.

Didn’t Mullen say like 6 months ago that the policy shouldn’t be changed? Oh, that was before Obama said he wanted to change it. Now it’s good. Man, this guy is such a suck up it’s disgusting. Between him and Gates I don’t see who has the stones to defend the military from the “I loathe the military” democrat powers that be.

Wonder what he would think if he has to share a shower room and toilet room with those people ? He has his nice private shower and toilet. The rank and file don’t.

It ought to be intresting keeping up with HIV exposure in the ranks.

No Navy admiral (or Air Force general) should ever be made head of the JCS. That responsibility should be left to the Army or the Marines. Or barring that, to the Coast Guard.

Please note that Mullen said he was speaking for himself not for the other service chiefs. The CNO hasn’t come out either way yet. Mullen is the CJCS not the CNO.

Except that the Marines are a Department of the Navy. There are whack jobs in all branches. Clearly this Admiral has no clue what it’s like to be a an enlisted on a combatant vessel. I do.

The Marines are older than the Navy, think in the spirit of Hope and Change that we can the Dept of Navy and replace it with the Dept of the Marine Corps.

Except that the Marines are a Department of the Navy. A bumper sticker for sale at a local gun show reads: The Marine Corps is a department of the Navy. The men’s department. It amused me, but I didn’t bring it home. My dad retired as a Commander in the Navy. My son served in the USMC.

OK Admiral Mikey Mullen. IF we do away with the old fashioned ways then lets quit SEGREGATION in WOMENS’ quarters from MENS’ quarters Let the straights have the same perspective as the gays.I doubt women will enjoy being leered at in the showers as well as straight men will be by gays And Face it, the Homo’s will eventually pair up and have sex in the foxholes(or bunks in the navy)while the straight men will be denied such companionship. How’s that for creating Esprit De Corps

Oh yes, it continues below the fold.

Mullens has to go!!!!!!!!!!! He is only looking at this as a political issue and McCain is right in this case. Or maybe there is a personal reason he is such an advocate. Mullen’s is wrong, NOBODY has to lie, you just do not talk about it. Only a really disgusting man sits around and discusses his sex life with his wife in any detail. As for the Navy wanting gays, brother, the Corps has more than it’s share of homos, male and female. I can no more picture two male Chiefs dancing and kissing at the Khaki Ball than I can two male Marines dancing and kissing at the Marine Corps Ball.

The real problem which Mullen’s will not see or will not talk about is the life style this will bring to the military. Will gays married in MA be considered legal dependents. What about gays from states with no gay marriage provisions. Will a gay member with a transsexual lover be allowed to marry in a Base Chapel? How will Fleet and Family Services or MCCS deal with those issue. Will gay members be allowed to dress as a woman after duty hours? Will none gays be FORCED to berth with gays or will they be allowed to object. Will that lead to segregation? What about open relationships on a ship? What about Chaplains whose church or faith are openly against the gay lifestyle? Will they be forced to ignore their faith or resign their commission? What about the number of suicides and spread of STDs prevalent in the gay life style? Now the only people that will not join are those whose faith tells them that the gay lifestyle is wrong and a sin. If they believe that they will not be allowed to join because they will no longer fit in Mullen’s diverse Navy. Will gays become a protected class in the military like women where after tailhook? It took years to get back to the point where every sexual harassment compliant did not start with an assumption of guilt. I do not mean to be crude, but this is about more than where a man puts his tools after work and what a women prefers to eat on her own time. It is about back dooring (pun intended) legalized federal gay marriages, acceptance of a LIFESTYLE and social engineering in the military. Imagine gay pride week on military bases, banning of the boy scouts on bases, the absolute silencing of any opposition in the military ranks, with threats of UCMJ and discharge, for refusing to accept a LIFESTYLE condemned in the Bible. There is NO proof homosexuality is genetic like you know, being black or a female. The goal is to forcing everyone to accept this as normal.

So what is next, obese people, reformed criminals and former drug addicts, those are all lifestyle choice as well. I have served with Gays in the Navy and Corps. Before don’t ask, don’t tell and since. I did not report a senior Marine Officer that was gay in the 80’s, I did not report numerous enlisted/officer gays over the last 10 years. “Don’t ask, Don’t tell” works far better. Although I do not approve of the life style, but I have the option to ignore it. 56% are against this nationwide. We need to mobilize and hand Obama and Mullen’s a resounding defeat!

There is more to this than just allowing gays in the military. They are opening the door for an activist agenda within the ranks. Benefits for a gay partner are next, such as:
Servicememember’s Group Life Insurance (SGLI)
Base Housing
Medical and Dental for gay dependent
Accompanied Tours with gay partner
Benefits normally associated with the military family will now be fought for by gay rights activist. Do not take this lightly.

“Admiral” Mullen: Ally of homos, tormentor of Navy SEALs, blind and deaf to Jihad. Typifies the pathetic brass we would expect from Obama’s vision of a weakened America. He makes me sick. And Mike Mullen has never—ever—seen any combat. He is 63! How does a man like him get to such a position with no actual combat experience? Ass-kissing and politics. The very kind of brown-nosing prick that Patton despised.

So long as the armed forces can prevent from happening what happened in seminaries in the Catholic Church, then I don’t have a particular problem with it. Better to open your mouth and confirm that you’re gay, than to keep it shut and have everyone “think” you’re gay. If it becomes a haven and a hierarchy of gays protecting the criminal acts of gays, then I’d say we have a problem. When the seminaries became bath houses for priests who had absolutely no intention of conducting themselves with chastity or morally, then it became a mess. Straight priests were treated poorly and finally retreated to being single or taking a wife, instead of serving the Body of Christ through the Mass.

Let’s see how this goes, but somehow I can’t imagine the military would enforce moral and ethical guidelines more successfully if the ratio of gays to straights becomes unbalanced. I don’t care HOW disciplined they think they are. A few bad apples placed in the wrong rank, or the wrong guy has a pass made and this could go amazingly awry. Whether you want to proudly state you’re gay…whatever.

That’s exactly what will happen, if the wrong person has a pass made at him or her. That will cause the PC crowd to rain bullets around the heads of straights and, eventually, the ratio may become unbalanced, and the next thing you know, we will have a military in fuchsia with feather boas—and that’s just the guys. The women will go for black tuxedos.

PC has proved it kills fellow servicemen and women and now they want open homos to serve, what’s next a homo pride parade on base or a homo party where they can all have their sexual sickness on display/

Did I get that right?

Damn few gays make it through high school without at least learning how to behave in the men’s locker room without giving offense.

Comment #2: rea  on  02/03  at  09:11 PM

The biggest disgrace in this whole debacle has been Senator John McCain.

In 2006, on Hardball, the senator said unequivocally that he would support a repeal of DADT as soon as our military commanders supported it.

In 2010, the head of the United States DoD has publicly supported a repeal of DADT.  The highest ranking military officer in our armed forces has said that he supports a repeal of DADT (sidenote - for people who claim superior knowledge of all military affairs, one of the Freepers above seemed to have missed the memo on Mullen’s military title - he is an Admiral, not a General).

There is the approval by the heads of our military operations that you claimed you would need before you could support a repeal of DADT, Sen. McCain.

Where the fuck are you, asshole?

Well, at least one poster realizes that there are ALREADY gays in the military (though he probably doesn’t realize that gays have been in the military ever since there was a military.)  That’s half assed progress of a sort.

Again, FAIL.

United States Navy - active since October 13, 1775
United States Marine Corps - active since November 10, 1775

I love chest-thumping teabagging douchebags who claim to be “real ‘muricans” who can’t even be bothered to use the Google to learn the basic history of the U.S. Armed Forces.

What’s so weird about not just these quotes but the whole anti-repeal thing in general is this certainty among certain right-wingers that the military is so sexually fragile that if people start admitting they’re gay the whole thing will immediately turn into something between the locker scenes in Top Gun and a bathhouse.

That and the way none of them seem to understand that being gay doesn’t preclude you wanting to join up in order to defend your country, as opposed to the motivation being to have orgies and molest straight soldiers. In fact the level of gay panic involved in this entire issue is so pathological it’s entirely likely the freepers believe, as Igantius J Reilly did, that having gays in the armed forces will lead to them trying to sleep with the enemy instead of fighting them.

As I understand it/them, they consider threat of military force the sole reason the US hasn’t been attacked since 9/11 (which is the only attack they recognize, for some reason).  Because they, as Opo mentioned, can’t imagine anyone acting differently than them, they assume that out gays will cause the entire military, less the gay recruits, to leave in disgust and terror.  Also, since they can’t imagine gays as doing anything other than fucking and doing drugs, the military will functionally cease to exist and the terrorists win, Obama formally converts the US to a Kenyan vassal operating under sharia law, cats and dogs fucking, etc.

Comment #15: Rebecca  on  02/04  at  01:35 AM

Just a passing observation on the relative ages of the Navy versus the Marine Corps. The date of October 13, 1775 refers to the establishment of the Continental Navy and is the traditional birthday of the U.S. Navy. However, the standing Continental Navy was not maintained after independence, and it wasn’t until 1794 when Congress authorized the purchase of six frigates that the modern U.S. Navy was born. The seniority of the Marine Corps (which was never disestablished) compared with the Navy is based on the 1794 date for the Navy, not the 1775 date.

Interestingly, one of those of six original frigates is the USS Constitution, still a commissioned ship of the Navy and (I think) the world’s oldest commissioned warship.

All of that aside, I am an active duty (straight, married) U.S. Naval Officer and am proud that Admiral Mullen, Secretary Gates, and the President support the repeal of DADT. Our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters in arms deserve far better than the current law.

“you cannot defend your fellow citizens when you are preoccupied with having swordfights in the showers. Eww, I just grossed myself out.”

To be fair, this one grossed me out too. Because the commenter apparently thinks we’re protected by a military force made up of twelve-year-olds. Seriously. Sword Fights? Who talks like that?

“Only a really disgusting man sits around and discusses his sex life with his wife in any detail.”

I have dutifully informed my husband that he is really disgusting, and should never discuss sex in detail with me again. This is definitely my favorite quotation of the whole thread. It’s such a massive punctuation fail that it makes my inner grammarian giggle giddily.

Usually the freeper quote posts make me mad or discouraged or hopeless about the state of humanity. But this one is just funny.

“Only a really disgusting man sits around and discusses his sex life with his wife in any detail.”
So is this referring to talking with your wife about sex, or talking about having sex with your wife? Normally I’d assume the latter from the context, but with these people I immediately assumed it was the former…

Comment #19: Devonian  on  02/04  at  04:33 AM

This whole comment thread (which I initially thought was one person) is just pathetic.  The arguments they use are varied and confusing.  Some use pseudo-psychology to justify not letting them in but ultimately it turns on the premise that every gay man stares at straight men lusting freakishly.  Being a straight man who’s had the lovely occurrence of going to gay male bars in the past I can verify even the most drunk horny gay man will still ask and if you say no will move on, like any normal human being.

The other half complain that by allowing them into the military they’ll gain de facto marriage rights and general civil rights as couples which is something that confuses me still.  If you live in a city with gay people who openly live their lives out and while they don’t wear placards it can be quite obvious, what value is left in denying them benefits they have rightfully earned them?  I do understand that it stems from the class attitude, i’ve written more research papers than I care to mention about it, but the whole concept is poorly constructed.  Who cares if they have marriages or civil rights?  Most of the country prior to 1930s thought the same way about blacks.  It doesn’t make it right, it just makes it a scum majority.

Comment #20: Xeranar  on  02/04  at  05:45 AM

DTG, McCain is a political animal. He is up for re-election against a really conservative opponent. So naturally, he is sliding hard right to keep his votes.

Comment #21: Angelia Sparrow  on  02/04  at  07:26 AM

These people DO know know that there is more to being in the military than taking showers, don’t they?

The whole time I was in the Navy, one of the most common shower-related discussions was that they damn well not take more than 2-3 minutes or you were wasting precious fresh water. Get wet, turn off the water, soap and scrub, turn on the water, rinse, and get out of the shower.

I have to believe that in combat zones, water is at least as hard to come by as it is at sea. And most of the rest of the places, like in permanent US bases, put up some frigging shower curtains.

Comment #22: Lymis  on  02/04  at  10:30 AM

These guys are hung up on showers, aren’t they? The word appears half a dozen times in those excerpts.

I noticed that too.  What is it with all that sex and/or rape in the showers?  Are they mistaking the military for prison?  Because the shower “jokes” I’ve heard all relate to “don’t drop your soap in prison”.  Apparently, by the quotes above, the military man will rape with abandon, so having gay men in the military poses a problem.  Why are they only concerned with rape when it comes to other men?  Or are they watching too much gay military porn or something?

So what is next, obese people, reformed criminals and former drug addicts, those are all lifestyle choice as well.

Well, I guess this Freeper missed that they are, in fact, allowing criminals and drug addicts into the military, without there even being a “former” or “reformed”.  I also love how obesity is a “lifestyle choice”.

Comment #23: SporkeyO  on  02/04  at  10:52 AM

Dear Freepers,

Oh, get over yourselves people!  Gay men are not all out to get you; you’re simply not as attractive and studly as you think you are.  You act like you’re afraid that gay men won’t be able to keep their hands off you, but what you’re really afraid of is that the gay men won’t be interested in you at all and your fragile egos will be broken.

Now, we know that wingnuts have trouble controlling themselves around women because of their misogyny, but even if the gay men were to find you attractive, most people actually have a tiny amount of self-control and integrity.  It’s hard to understand when you don’t have any yourselves, but most gay men won’t bother you no matter what.  You guys could actually learn some valuable lessons from them.

Comment #24: bananacat  on  02/04  at  11:04 AM

In 2006, on Hardball, the senator said unequivocally that he would support a repeal of DADT as soon as our military commanders supported it.

My guess is that McCain felt comfortable saying that because he assumed that military commanders would never want to repeat DADT.  It was a game-playing move where he gets to pass the buck and not seem like a homophobe, while still feeling confident that DADT would remain.  Too bad for him that his assumption was faulty.

Comment #25: bananacat  on  02/04  at  11:12 AM

If the ban is lifted homosexuals will flock to the military and overrun it and have the full force of military law behind them, the military will be theirs.

That’s my favorite. I just imagine a post-DADT Pentagon finding their computer screens scrolling “ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US.”

Also the Rude Pundit has an excellent post on this:

http://rudepundit.blogspot.com/2010/02/in-brief-note-to-john-mccain-gay.html

Implicit in the language of the men who want to leave in place the U.S. military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy regarding gays and lesbians in the military is this fear: “Gay guys might rape my ass.” The proper response to that is, “Oh, get over yourself, Mary.”

Comment #26: phil zombi  on  02/04  at  02:27 PM

And just to add something in, having been in the Marines, many of them do indeed discuss their sex lives (which often, though not always, involve their wives) in great, great detail.  I can tell you things about the sex lives of Marines that would make Dr. Ruth blush.  Don’t they know that part of proving your manhood is discussing the fact that you do, in fact, masturbate to straight pornography, and that you also have sex with a female (or females) on a regular basis?  These dudes need to get out more.

Can I say that I also find it deeply insulting that these people assume that all of our servicemembers are as closed-minded as them?  They’re dishonoring the many, many LGBT people who are currently serving (I knew more than my share), and they are also dishonoring the ones who are adult enough not to cry about cooties.

Comment #27: Atheist Feminazi  on  02/04  at  02:36 PM

There were so many gay men and women (and men who experimented with my gay Marine roomy ). I was surprise at how butch some of the men were who had sex with him. :D Also: GLBT have a huge plus going for them: they don’t produce upteen dependants, which frees them up and saves money.

Comment #28: pitbullgirl65  on  02/04  at  02:46 PM

Once again, the freepers are assuming that because they go out and rape and coerce unwilling (female) people into sex, that everyone else wants to, and their precious rosebuds will be at risk.  They have no self-control, so naturally, no-one else does.

As we always said about the jerk who called us “lesbos” and specualted loudly about what us “dykes” did to each other (I’m in a heterosexual marriage, and my friends were, so far as I know, straight) in high school, it says a lot more about them than it does about us.

“Easy to say General Mullen when you don’t have to bunk or shower with these individuals.”

Did they even hear Mullen’s testimony?  He said “I have served side by side with homosexuals since 1968.”

HE DID “bunk and shower” with homosexuals—for over 40 years.  THAT’S HOW HE KNOWS IT’S NO BIG DEAL.

Jeff Sessions’ face at the hearing said it all—they feel betrayed by Mullen and Gates.  McCain thought they would always support his same bigotrys, that the “good ole boys” military network would hold strong.

The Repubs are wrong on this and they know they’re wrong.  This week was the death blow to DADT and they know it.

Feel the “homomentum” as they say at Shakesville.

Yeah, and show me a military person who isn’t going to jury rig a shower if he gets the chance. In Iraq, you don’t have to heat the water: you have to cool it. It heats up tremendously in the spring, summer, and fall.

Also, these guys seem to have a hard time grasping the concept of competence. Professionalism, etc., etc., That means to me they don’t see a lot of it, even—-or perhaps especially—when they look in the mirror.

What’s really wrong with our military is it’s become so goddamn PC. INTPagan, who cares if Marines talk about who they’ve had sex with. What else are we supposed to talk about? SOP? ROE? Being in country and even garrison can be brutally boring and repetetive. Are our fellow devil dogs supposed to not cuss, spit, smoke, dip, or watch porn because it offends women and gays?

I don’t speak for every Marine, but I would be afraid for the guy who came out, because as you surely know, there are some hard core homophobes in the Marine Corps who wouldn’t hesitate to beat the shit out of an openly gay man. Personally, I wouldn’t care if there were gay men in my company.
