Why who’s President does matter, example 1 of presumably thousands

Oh, I’m sure McCain would have given this due consideration:

In some instances, Obama would be quickly delivering on promises he made during his two-year campaign, while in others he would be embracing Clinton-era policies upended by President Bush during his eight years in office…

The new president is also expected to lift a so-called global gag rule barring international family planning groups that receive U.S. aid from counseling women about the availability of abortion, even in countries where the procedure is legal, said Cecile Richards, the president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. When Bill Clinton took office in 1993, he rescinded the Reagan-era regulation, known as the Mexico City policy, but Bush reimposed it.

Yawn. Is that all?

The president-elect has said, for example, that he intends to quickly reverse the Bush administration’s decision last December to deny California the authority to regulate carbon dioxide emissions from automobiles.

Wow. It’s almost as if one President enacted a bunch of policies which were politically motivated, and as if electing a President who’s much closer to sharing our politics somehow leads to policies which are better! That’s just weird.

I fully intend on spening the next eight years gloating to and laughing at all the healthier, more economically stable McCain supporters that live in a more secure country.

I will be obnoxious.

Oh, yes.  There will be snark.

So THAT’s what that voting thing is all about. I get it now. wink

After sweating bullets for weeks despite knowing on an intellectual level that the race was all but over, I’m still not 100% free of the nagging feeling that I only dreamed this and Im about to wake up…

“example 1 of presumably thousands”

I’d love it if you and other progressive bloggers started a real series along these lines.  It would be a clear resource for us to keep track of his progress, a way of showing people the change Obama is promising and making happen, and a way of holding him to account to really make these changes happen (by providing a record of his promises against which his policies can be measured).

Not to mention combating our American history-A.D.D.

I used to read the news because I was like “oh, crap, what terrible thing is the US doing now?” but now I read it because every time I see something like “president-elect Obama” I do a happy happy dance inside. ^^ This might be the first time *ever* that seeing the news is a positive experience for me…

And in regard to this story: YES PLEASE! More like this, Mr. President!

My neighbor tells me that her husband is going to do something he never has before: buy and fly a flag!

It makes that much difference.  On election night, I jokingly said to my 10 year old son (singing) “are you proud to be an american?” like that odious bit of jingoistic crap of a song they have to sing for recitals all the time.  To my astonishment he finished the line (with a tear staring in his eye) “because now I know I’m free”.

That was the first time I heard him ever recite that with anything other than dripping snark in his voice.  Of course we all still hate the song in its entirety ... that kid has hypersensitive bullshit detectors and always has (a real P.C. Myers in miniature) ... but that bit floored me.

“We are no longer American Idiots” according to my older son.

I look forward to the no-history-please-we’re-wingnuts crowd shouting “Executive ORDERS?!? WHo ever HEARD of such an undemocratic, dictatorial thing? Who does this Obama think he is to UPEND the policies of a previous president?!”

They’ve done stupider.

But but but…both candidates are the same! There’s no difference between Gush and Bore!

NADER 2012!
