Without additional comment

I will vote for McCain if I have to in order to keep a dangerously unqualified man out of the White House.

TalkLeft commenter.

Update: From comments below:

Thanks for pointing out that comment. I deleted it.  It was inappropriate.

TalkLeft will support the Democratic nominee, whoever it turns out to be.

I’m probably not the first to mention this, but the RSS feed is completely screwed up; all that is coming through is the title and the author of the post.

Comment #1: Sarah in Chicago  on  06/02  at  03:08 PM

The RSS feed *I* get gives me the beginning of each post and the title, but not the author. Sarah in Chicago is obviously dangerously unqualified to comment here.

Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.

You’ll see a fair amount of that from Talk Left, and it’s practically the password to get in over at No Quarter.

Comment #4: Incertus, Nacho Daddy  on  06/02  at  03:21 PM

I’m betting that most of the TalkLefters and TaylorMarshers will pull the lever for Obama in November. The ones who don’t were never actually liberals in the first place.

Comment #5: Scott  on  06/02  at  03:27 PM

I had to take Talk Left off my RSS reader because of crap like this… I kept it for a while, thinking it was valuable to be regularly reminded of the Clinton-supporter perspective… but then I decided there are better Clinton supporters out there to listen to.

Comment #6: Caro  on  06/02  at  03:42 PM

They’re not going to vote for McCain any more than a kid who says “I’ll hold my breath until I turn blue!” is actually going to autoasphyxiate.

I think we should call this threat “I’LL HOLD MY BREATH UNTIL I VOTE RED” to give it the respect it deserves.

True enough. If I had my druthers, I’d vote for, say, Reverend Wright over Obama (or anyone else to the right of Dennis Kucinich). But I don’t have my druthers, whatever the heck my druthers actually are. They sound like something a hen should have.

As I’ve said before, I may not agree with the Clinton supporters at Shakesville, but they’re not fucking nutjobs like the ones at TalkLeft.  It’s a much better place to get your Clinton-supporter viewpoint.

If it wasn’t that the rest of us would have to suffer right along with that moron, I’d merely smile evilly and say, “Oh by all means GO AHEAD AND VOTE FOR MCCAIN!  And you just enjoy the next four years of oh so QUALIFIED leadership..!”

Comment #10: Lisa KS  on  06/02  at  04:02 PM

Wait wait wait—OBAMA’s the unqualified one?

Does that mean they think McCAIN is qualified?

Of the two, McCain is OBVIOUSLY more dangerous.  Holy crap, are they getting their news from Fox now?

McCain has an action section on his website where trolls get McCain Points for spamming blogs. I’d say this is probably an example.

Caren, if they can’t see that fact plain as day, these people are too freaking emotional to acknowledge that the sky is blue and that water is wet.

I absolutely despise this observation, but I can’t see any other way of defining it.

I’m with witless chum. I want druthers. I don’t know what they are, but I want ‘em.

I haven’t spent a lot of time at TalkLeft, but I go to Hillaryis44.org whenever I’m feeling a little low on the crazy talk. They got the Ayers and Larry Sinclairs and pretty much any conspiracy theory you could ask for short of gay orgies with Louis Farrakhan. One of the most recent comments:

“I feel dizzy when have to hear ‘progressive men’… Folks, these ‘men’ are not really men, look at those kos crowd. They are limp-fisted wimpy boys. I absolute hate those peaceniks. If I were the president, I sure would have sent them all to Iraq to taste the reality on the ground. Fortunately to them, I am not the president.

Those ultral liberal male have not guts to stand up to a tough-minded woman. They are chickens. Another war is the best way to test these wimps.”

They make freepers look like the PTA.

Crazy Grandpa is supposedly less dangerous and more qualified, from a left-wing pov? I don’t think so.

BTW, ever since I read one of the articles here that dealt with McCain-as-crazy-grandpa and shared it with my DH, that’s been his nickname in our house.

Every one of them must have been commenting at TalkLeft for the past couple months, I guess. Pretty silly to write these folks off as Republicans when Clinton’s campaign has been pushing exactly this message for a long time now. Shakesville has the occasional insane commenter as well, but the bloggers don’t try to cultivate that kind of thing like they seem to have at TalkLeft.

Comment #17: Aman  on  06/02  at  05:36 PM

Mnemosyne, yes, I am getting my Clinton-perspective from Shakesville now.

Comment #18: Caro  on  06/02  at  05:51 PM

voting for McCain to keep a dangerously unqualified man out of the White House is like taking a crap in a bowl to insure a healthy breakfast.  it positively buries the needle on the dumbass-o-meter

Comment #19: The Crapture  on  06/02  at  06:20 PM

That’s like voting for Adolph Hitler to keep a dangerous anti-Semite out of the White House.

Mnemosyne, agreed about Shakesville; I disagree a lot, but they’re not crazy.

The only way TalkLeft looks slightly less insane is if you compare it to Corrente.

Comment #20: TomHilton  on  06/02  at  06:43 PM

Yes, because one single comment is indicative of an entire site or even an entire group (Clinton supporters).  Maybe you can put an update now noting how talkleft has removed the comment?

Don’t make me go cherry-pick a comment!  heh.

Just so it is clear, I will not vote mccain no matter who wins the dem vote; there is only a small group that actually would.

Totally off topic, a local station in my northwest florida and south alabama area ran a poll asking who would be ok with a legal contract/marriage for gay couples and over 60% approved.  Neat huh?

Better tell them to get into the “One of the Problems with the Media” post, because someone else made the same comment:

I’m voting for McCain for the good of the country. At least McCain has a demonstrated history of being able to work with Democrats and, if we vote Dem downticket, we can possibly take care of the Supreme Court problem. Of course, if the Democrats are as lame as they are now, nothing we can do can fix that problem.

You’d almost think that more than one commenter there had the same opinion, wouldn’t you?

Comment #22: Mnemosyne  on  06/02  at  06:55 PM

But TalkLeft doesn’t and makes that clear.  There are always going to be a couple people who either go to far one way or another with their support of something or someone.

Comment #23: hk  on  06/02  at  10:29 PM

Let’s face it; none of them are qualified.  But McCain will harm the nation less than the others.

Comment #24: Bismarck  on  06/02  at  11:56 PM

That’s why I pointed out that it was a TalkLeft commenter, not a blogger.

But it’s an exemplar of the extreme end of Clinton support. It’s not an isolated incident. It could have, and has, happened at No Quarter or Reclusive Leftist or any of several other blogs. But it didn’t. So I named the blog it came from.

Still, I’ve updated the post to indicate that the comment was removed. This is a good sign, as I would not have expected TalkLeft to state that it will support the Democratic nominee until at least such time as Clinton endorses Obama. For Jeralyn (or whichever representative commented here) to state otherwise at this time is a welcome development.

And if TL has already stated that in another forum, then my apologies for having missed it.

Comment #25: Auguste  on  06/03  at  01:36 AM

Shorter Auguste:  Nyaaah, nyaaaahh, look at the stupid Clinton supportes, see how idiotic one of them is, it’ll be their fault if we righteous Obama supporters don’t get our way in November!  And Obama supporters NEVER say anything stupid, inflammatory, or extreme.  So I’ll write a post about one anonymous Clinton-loving idiot! Because I’m for unity!

Comment #26: tinfoil hattie  on  06/03  at  08:23 AM

TalkLeft is just one website, but perhaps you might remember that there were several polls of Clinton supporters which indicated that a significant minority of them would vote for John McCin over Barack Obama.  On my side, I’ve seen a few conservatives saying that no, they won’t vote for John McCain, but will vote third party or not vote at all.  I guess we’ll see come November just how this plays out.

But remember one thing: Senator Clinton played the race card hard and heavy, and she did everything but come out and tell white Democrats not to vote for a Negro.  Since March 4th, she won the lioness’ share of votes in the Democratic primaries.  In Pennsylvania and Ohio, which the Democratic nominee must win to win the presidency, Mrs Clinton won by wide margins.

I’ve said before that if it were a choice between Hillary Clinton and Satan, I’d have to give the devil his due, but it’s pretty clear right now that if Mrs Clinton had won the nomination early, she’d be a lock to win in November.  But with y’all nominating Mr Obama, I’d say that Mr McCain has at least an even chance of winning in November.
