When I was in grad school in Scotland, the football pools was a competition to pick score draws.  You had 55 matches, so you usually had all 46 English professional matches, five Scottish premier league matches, and Scottish lower division matches.  You could select ten of these, eight of which had to be score draws…

As a project, I wrote some programs that attempted to analyse the propensity to score, the rate of draws, etc…  Best I ever got was six.  On those weeks where there was a winner, it was usually someone who’d say, “Oh, I never watched football, I just picked my favourite numbers!” wink

Spurs 2-1 Citeh

Blackburn 1-1 Everton
Bolton 0-1 Fulham
Sunderland 2-0 Birmingham
Wigan 3-1 Blackpool
Wolves 0-0 Stoke
Chelsea 4-0 West Brom
Liverpool 2-3 Arsenal
Man Utd 2-2 Newcastle

No picks on Scotland for me.

Well…  So far this morning, I’m 2-5 in the EPL and 4-1 in the SPL.

Andy Axel is 3-4.

Jeff is 2-5…

Man, Blackpool announced their presence in the EPL with some authority.

West Brom, on the other hand, got a rather rough welcome.
