Fabregas to Barcelona: Team interest confirmed

ArsenalBarcelona
With Benitez trying to shut the door to Mascherano on them, it appears Barcelona's continuing to stoke the fires regarding Cesc Fabregas:
Txiki Begiristain admits Barcelona want to bring Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas back to the Nou Camp, but will not pay over the odds. Barca have long been linked with their former youth player, and sporting director Begiristain identified him as one of the few players capable of improving a team that won a domestic and European treble last season. "It depends on how much we want to spend," he said in Marca. "If we spend a lot of money, it is possible (to bid for Fabregas). We do not know how much it will be yet. We have not asked Arsenal. "If the amount is too high, we will not try."
First of all, I wish I was named Txiki Begiristain. Second of all, shouldn't Wenger laugh in their faces? Isn't Fabregas the lynchpin to Arsenal's strategy on the pitch? Plus, the dude's like 23, the team captain, and getting better; there's no way you could watch him walk away. Then again, who does he pattern his game after? Who was his childhood hero? None other than Pep Guardiola.

*yawn* Since Cesc is Catalan and plays the beautiful game, there will always be rumors of Barca making attempts at him. They can come at him all they want; Wenger isn’t selling. I do think he’ll eventually go on to Barca (after he’s won a few trophies as captain of Arsenal).

Yeah, hasn’t he been at Arsenal since he was a kid?  You don’t just throw that away without winning anything, especially once you’re the captain.  Then again, if Matthew Weiner called and said he wanted me to come work for Mad Men, I’d run through brick walls to get there, so there’s something to be said about your dream gig.

“There is absolutely no chance of us selling Cesc. All this talk is just fabrication.” - PWH, Arsenal Chairman - August 2009

“I’m not sure how many times I need to talk directly about my commitment to Arsenal as I continue to say the same thing over and over again, but it appears that every time I have spoken to the Spanish media recently, my words have bounced back to England, leaving question marks about my future.

So, for anyone who is unclear or may have misunderstood what my position is, let me make myself absolutely crystal clear. I am wholeheartedly committed to Arsenal and my future lies with this great Club.”

“If Guardiola called me it would be different. I would be delighted to go.”

Rumor update: £25m bid + players from Barca.

Reason why this is all BS: no way Cesc costs less than Alonso, who is 5 years older and was not a team captain.

Not in the summer of mega-money.

Wenger’s goin’, “what?” CRSomethingorOther cost like a bajillion dollars, so Cesc has got to be worth something around there. He’s more mature, less of a dick, and will only get better as he gets stronger and more confident.

Still, I’m betting (along with Faizan and Marc) that he’ll end up at Barca after adding a little heft to his trophy sack.
