The Best Days of the Tournament?

Half the games have been played, and in the next four days, half the remaining games will be played. After Friday, the pace will slow for the knockout rounds. But for now, there are 30 countries whose teams have hopes and aspirations of winning the Cup. For some, they may be a very long shot, and they may need help to even play another match. For some, the apparent birthright of the knockout phase is at risk. For others, great performances make the dream more plausible. Regardless, Tuesday morning,, there were 30 nations dreaming, and in the next four days, 14 of those dreams will be dashed. Some matches will be tactical, but in many the teams should be playing all out, and I expect some great games in the third quarter of the World Cup.

So for a new soccer fan, which game(s) would be the best to try and watch? Seriously, I have to plan the rest of my day but so many choices.

It depends on who you like!

As a supporter of the US, I’ll be watching us play tomorrow morning, but I’ll also have streaming video on my laptop with the Slovenia-England match.  When I’m at work, I’m extremely bandwidth limited, so sometimes am stuck with a game update site and no video.

That said, in group B, the excitement should be if South Korea can beat Nigeria to qualify.  I doubt Greece will trouble Argentina too much, although a draw is not out of the question.  Group D, I’d watch Ghana vs Germany.  A win by Ghana and Germany are in trouble: they’ll need help from Australia to qualify.  We can talk about the other four groups later in the week.

I’d definitely second Ghana v Germany. I also agree that Argentina shouldn’t have any trouble with Greece…although there is always the chance of seeing Messi work some magic smile

I’m rooting for the US too, but I want to see some of the other games, as well as some top players. I made fun of Marc in another thread about his past as a fantasy freak, but he’s right. It is a good way to learn about individual players. Even if their teams don’t have much hope, I still like to know the athletes. So thank you for the tips.
